    Question Protein Powder Question

I've been lurking around and can't find what I am looking for in particular. I was told by a doctor a few months ago that when you consume whey protein, that you don't absorb hardly any of the protein. So the last few months I have been eating natural, but I'm consuming 16 ounces of red meat almost every day and I think that's too much. My protein goal is 200g a day. I was looking up something to back up her argument, but I can't find anything. Would a different type of protein powder absorb better? Thanks in advance.

Your doctor is not too bright.

Also, you only need .8g of protein per pound, so you could likely scale that back regardless.

She said that protein from milk (which I believe is where whey comes from) mostly does not get absorbed. I always believed protein = protein and a calorie = calorie. I never looked deeper into it.

I actually found one study to back up her argument [1]. It states that it may be as little as 15g is absorbed from a 50g whey shake. Only with digestive enzymes did it "significantly increased the absorption rate of WPC over controls". They used 2.5g and 5g digestive enzymes such as Aminogen. Which is in my bottle of ON Gold Standard Whey, but I can't find how many grams they use in the bottle.

Your doctor is wrong. I'd go back to using protein powder if needed. You don't have to have red meat as your only protein source either. 16 oz a day seems like too much to me.

Read that study again. They don't prove only 15g is absorbed, they speculate that it's possible without any definite proof. It's also funded by the same patent holders of the enzyme used. It's a typical industry funded biased ****

    Recipe?
For the chicken plate, you mean?

It's just deep fried chicken breast, next to some mixed salad/cheese/peanuts.

The cabbage stew was made by my wife, so I wouldn't know what to tell you on that.
She made a huge pot today - between six of us, this thing will be gone in a couple days.
    Wanna come over?

Chicken recipes are very easy to make.
    No special cooking skills required.
Baked chicken, in any form, with a side of veggies, is probably my most favorite meal ever, and I have it almost daily.

I'll bake a huge tray of chicken quarters every 2-3 days and eat from there once or twice a day. Awesome source of protein, delicious, and ... CHEAP

    The doctor is wrong.

Not the first, and sure as hell not the last, time a doctor/MD is completely wrong about something that relates to weight training or body building in some way
