Ended up returning my Lat Tower due to a design flaw. The pulley above the stack is off center and the cable rubs on the top horizontal piece.

If you turn the metal guide plate, will it still rub?

    Yes, it's symmetrical.

I've noticed the cable looked crooked in some reviews as well. The pulley should be .50"-.75" to the left so it's centered withe stack.

Seems like moving the pulley would have a been a lot easier than returning the whole thing.

I have my own shop, but I'm not in the business of correcting manufacturers mistakes on my dime.

This is a very basic design problem. No idea how it wasn't discovered and corrected at some point.

So you returned it for spite? To make a point? SMH

I'm sure they would have made it worth your while, not to mention time and effort you would have saved.

Jeez....Why on earth would you think I returned it out of spite?? I returned it because it had a fundamental design flaw. That's it.

As someone who spent money on a product, I'm under no obligation to fix their mistake.

I expect to get what I payed for, a properly-designed and fully functional product.

There's no point going around telling people that they should fix crappy products or just live with them. You can do that, if you want, but that's not for me. I have a gym full of good **** from American Barbell, Rogue, Dynamic Fitness, Rep, True, Inspire and some other commercial companies. I don't have the room or desire for poorly designed/manufactured products.

PS. I could go on about some other issues I experienced while installing and using the unit. This was far from the only one.

A crooked upright, missing parts, the worst pads I've ever used and more.....

Yep, I sure did. there were a lot of positive reviews so I took a chance and it didn't cost me a thing, other than some time.

It looks like all of them based on photos of other units. You can clearly see the cable is not centered between the guide rods.

Yup, I see that, if I am not mistaken even their stock photo seems to have this issue. How unfortunate. Is this correctable without to much hassle for the average buyer? I would imagine fraying of the cable would be a significant issue given that picture.

I just received and set up the titan fitness lat tower and it does not have that issue. It is slightly off center but not like the above picture.

Depending on how much it's binding, you could fix the fraying potential in short order with a decent file by just widening the holes in the plate and tubing. That doesn't fix the cable not pulling the carriage straight up the guide rods, though. You'd want to probably shift the pulley position to fix that if it's interfering with the smoothness of the pull.

Either way, it's not like this is one of Titan's lowest-end products, and at $900 on sale I wouldn't want to be doing redneck machining on it. If I found it for $100 on the used market? File away.

wow I'd probably take 5-10 minutes to fix the problem rather than an hour to box it all back up again.

I understand its a design flaw but take the credit compensation they give you and get something else you can use.

That's kind of the way of Titan what flaws can I fix or live with to get something ok for 1/2 the price of the other guy. I've got a lot of stuff I like that I would have never bought otherwise.

Does anyone know if the plate loaded version has the same issue with the cable rubbing?

I think it is more of a quality control issue than an issue with all their weight stack lat towers since my weight stack tower doesn't have the issue.

I would likely have played the "have Titan ship me new parts" lottery and seen if I got better alignment before shipping the whole thing back.

How much is slightly? If it's not centered, there will be more friction and wear as the weights are pulled up. A pic would be helpful too.

Their "fix" may just have been to enlarge the hole the cable passes through.

Nope, and I needed like 6 different parts. The second most annoying thing was a crooked upright that made it pretty much impossible to level the unit.

Sorry, I don't know how to post pics. Is it because I am relatively new with a low post count? There is roughly half an inch of clearance on one side and roughly 11/16th's of an inch on the other side. So its about 3/32nd's of an inch off center (so less than a tenth of an inch off center).

Looks like it could be corrected with a smaller pulley (smaller diameter) that would put the cable in the center of the weight stack. Cheap fix, but in reality, this is Titan's problem.

I'm interested in the lat tower for $900...chance they discount it even lower on black Friday?

I've been wanting to get their foam plyo box set for $424 but it's been on that sale for all Year from 499. Do they tend to mark down products more on black Friday.

Larger markdowns on Black Friday however they'll probably mark everything up the day before. Titan often raises their prices before sales.

Bad move that would break the cable over time.
