That's correct, I believe that the Fat Pad was being manufactured by someone prior to Rogue, I'm not sure who, but I clearly remember using them years ago at meets with no branding on them as well.

    3. Add to that I'm 43, would it beneficial to save my shoulders a bit?
That's a good question...my thoughts on size have been distorted from years of competing in the heavy classes, so to me, a 242 is still considered "small", but I would venture to say that anyone who doesn't wear a XXL size shirt likely won't notice the benefit of the pad width as far as pushing in and supporting the scapula. That said, the extra padding should help push in and support the shoulder blade area regardless of shoulder width, so I'd say that's where this pad can help the masses at any size.

As far as weight, that's always relative, but for me, I could bench pretty much on a 2x4 up to 315 or so. When I started handling 365+, I could feeling the inadequacies of the smaller bench pads, and I got to the point where I wouldn't bench shirted period without a modified bench pad ever as i got older.

No joke, before there Fat Pads, we would just stack those styrofoam stretching pads on the floor like 3-4 high and just floor press on those, that solved a lot problems for me with benches.

I dont think it has to do with the amount you lift or as much of shoulder width as people think (my shoulders aren't relatively wide)
But do you have shoulder pain? yes: get the fat pad. No: wait till your shoulders hurt then get it, or just get it so they don't hurt later.

I've always had a crappy bench. A history of shoulder problems hasn't helped with this fact. When I started lifting weights a friend had the fat pad bench and I could bench on it without pain. I tried building a bench with my own home made fat pad It worked ok. This last winter I got the chance to buy my friends fat pad monster bench so I did. My numbers although poor compared to many of you are improving and I'm going on months now without missing a bench day due to shoulder pain.

Thanks to you and MGM (repped him, ran out of rep today for you).
I get occasional shoulder pain but when that happens I use my swiss bar for OHP and benching for a couple sessions and it subsides pretty quickly. Certainly nothing that persists but I guess I should admit I'm getting older and a pain doesn't need to persist to get in front of it.

Yeah. The guy who built my 10" log overbuilt a bit and it weighs in at 93 pounds. The Titan's weight seems reasonable.

I'd like to see a review before I jump, but I'll probably pick up the 12" when they come back in stock .

Hey, i know your really into integrating functional strength stuff into your weight lifting routine, i assume Your work makes transferring gym strength to the real world critical. My work has shifted in the past year, i went from being in a bigger company where i wasnt doing much physical to starting my own company where i have to do a lot wider range of work. Im in construction, so i went from 90% sitting at a desk to now being in the fieid and doing inspections of roofs 3 stories up, emergency material runs loading / unloading a pick up material. my gym strength has translated over somewhat, but not as much as i want, so i want to up the functional training aspect. Since i have to load and unload heavy stuff, wrestle with equipment / ladders etc log bar training looked like a good starting point and at titans price, not much to lose. What size do you recomend? I would not be ever competing i assume bigger is harder as it taies the koad farther out from the lifters body? Is the 10” too big to start with?

a beefier, more well made version of the bench they already had would have been more desirable. a body solid gfid31 is nothing anyone should want to emulate.

Seems to me Titan doesn't really put any thought into their designs. Sometimes they are fine, sometimes not, depending on what they clone. Like they don't really understand what they are building.

    That's exactly what I thought.

I suspect you are correct, they have no idea what they are building.

Considering they started out selling tractor attachments, which they still sell through one of their other websites, your logic makes sense. Since they were copying other companies' steel tractor attachment designs and having them manufactured cheaply in China it seems they branched out into fitness equipment using the same strategy. I doubt their management team and ownership have hardly any real life experience using weightlifting equipment. More than likely someone just looked into other possible steel equipment they could clone and have manufactured cheaply by Chinese workers for a fraction of American wages. The bright side is consumers can purchase clones of other companies' fitness products for a fraction of the cost.

In Titans defense there is a lot of politics when you are dealing with relationships with factories. With no inside knoledge confirming there exact operation, having to manage relationships with factiries as a big part of my imagine that they source there products through a small group of factories that have there “sweet spots” in different arewas and levels of products. As titan grows, they are becoming more important and it looks like they are able to get there partner factories to tool and make products or rework existing offerings that set them apart from other import equipment companies. These relationships are not one way though, often to be able to pull of one item they may have to agree to concede giving the factory support with something they really need help. Just a fir instance, Im sure the fat pad bench was something they wanted to directly target this forums nitch and start to build credibility in the entry level power lifting and hardcore enthusiast bb market, not a huge market that a asian factory is goung to have tons of other volume outlet sellers to buy. That would impact the amount of tooking and set up costs get refkected per unit. If Titan really wanted that piece to be built to certain specs and still come in at a price point they felt it needed to have the impact they wanted, they may have had to agree to ither things. That factory maybe said (read in heavy asia accent) “ are you crazy, you know how much that plywood cost? No one make bench out of 3”x3” 11 gage tube, you no wantus use 18 gage, it plenty good, americans weak, we stamp it 11 gage no problem? Wat, yiu want us to lose money and have to use real 11 gage? How bought we use 11 gage 2.75” and we label it 3”? No, ok, fine, but we make it we looose lot of money, you use our adjustable bench now, its very popalar or we no give you the fat bench below cost! “
But really, from my experience, this is how things wirk. You leverage some things to get what you want. They may still bring out a better adjustabke bench at a higher price point, but that bench may just have been a reality of business. Also, theres only so much product they can support if it isnt also sold by the factory or have parts common that are produced akready, you have to pick your battles and priorities in budiness sometimes. These guys pull of some amazing things that show a decent grasp of the enthusiast market, but they need to serve the broader market also and its a balance

I can't think of another company in this price point that markets to our crowd like Titan does.

I can't speak for their monolift. But majority of their equipment (at least the equipment that I've purchased) has been exceptional for the price. I don't feel like I got ripped off when it comes to any of their products.

    You don't like their monolift?
I just bought an adjustable monolift for the X-3 rack.
    Hoping it will be functional.

There mini lift seems fine, I have the T3 adjustable and mine is made very high quality. The only issue is that the hole for the bolt that lifts back travel was not placed optimally. Its not critical for me, if ti was, then there are NUMEROUS easy fixes. Smaller diameter bolt allows more travel, or simply removing it, or if you really prefer a totally different set up just drip over. There are several other possible ideas if you wanted something even more elegant, but the unit is made of the same thickness steel and the same dimensions pretty much as the Rogue. Its actually nicer in some ways then the standard ones that Rogue makes because they added the UHMW lining similar to the monster stuff. Its no Monster, but certainly in the league of the standard rogue R and lite versions, minus a bit of powder cost quality I am sure and some post fabrication clean up of welds etc. It seems to be among the best and cleanest fabricated Titan products I have, as much of the newer stuff, at least for racks seems to have heard the cry of the forum on ugly finish

I just ordered the 8" last night, the only one in stock. I figured for $112.00 shipped it was a no lose situation. I would have preferred the 10", but they were out of all of them but the 8", since I have not used one before, I thought it would be a novel piece to ad for a few bucks! Anyone see an issue with the narrower spaced handles at 22" ?
