    Serious Mass Made Me Fat

I think I may have used Serious Mass wrong. I bought it to help build muscle and thought that my day to day activities would provide enough exercise. I took an entire 12lb bag before realizing it was not having the intended effect. I gained 1 1/2 inches on my waist and went from 170 to 185 pounds. Is this normal??

Did you think taking a mass gainer and not working out would make you gain muscle and not fat?

Your title is wrong. Most likely being in a caloric surplus and not exercising is what caused the unwanted weight gain.

All this OP. You goofed. Start lifting, cut off the fat, and do it right next time.

I'd suggest checking out these and figuring out your macros and caloric intake. Sometimes a mass gainer isn't necessary if you can get all your calories and macros from whole food alone.

Go to the workout programs section of this forum. Read the stickies and look around at reputable novice routines such as Fierce 5, Starting Strength, All Pros, etc. Pick one and follow it. Check nutrition forum stickies. Track calories and carbs/fat/protein daily, as well as bodyweight.

Because...yeah...you definitely can't take mass gainer and just magically gain muscle lol

I would reach out the manufacturer. It's a shame that putting on serious muscle can't be done by sitting on the couch and taking supplements. I mean, that's what Arnold did, right? He was just on the right supplements and didn't really train hard.

    (not srs)

Opie, it takes years to build a physique. You need intense exercise and quality diet to put on muscle.

No, eating in too large of a caloric surplus while not pushing yourself hard enough in the gym(if you were even working out) is what caused you to gain fat.
Progressive overload + progressive eating = gains. Simple as that!

It's all about calories in verses calories out. If you gained weight with a weight gained it worked. You may not have gained in the way you wanted. Tracking calories is important on a bulk as well as a cut.
