Makes me sad though. Pretty soon everyone will think they don't need wrenches like me because some Australian dude showed them how to adjust a derailleur on YouTube.

Bike stores are like fleas here, on one street we have Giant, Specialized, Trek, Avanti and a small lbs that does cannondale/colnago all within 2km of each other. Around the corner from that there's a store thats a Bianchi dealer run by an ex TDF(i think) guy. We have a strong downhill scene also tho, world championships recently & a lot of the early innovation in downhill in the 90's.

I actually often wonder how the fuk they all survive.

The bike stores around me that thrive are those that also sell outdoor hiking, camping, running, and ski gear. They push volume all year round and would not survive on bike sales and service alone.

I managed to get a ride in before the sun was too low. ~45F and back at the house 5:55 and it was already fairly dark.

Well..this will blow your mind..BUT..Youtube is absolutely perfect for things like working on bikes. I know how to work on my drivetrain because of those videos. Also wont be paying someone to spend 5 minutes truing my wheels at 20$ before long. Thats the power of the internet.

On the other hand, there are those of us that prefer to spend our time riding their bikes, not repairing them. I admire those that can and do, but fortunately for the sole proprietor, its not for everyone.

Besides, its not always just a question of talent, sometimes you also need the right equipment to get it right. Especially for precision adjustments like truing.

Took my bike to a shop when I was a newbie. $45 for a new chain and install . No thanks . Learned how to do it myself.

Same happened when I took my car to a dealership. If you have the time and enjoy it. Do it. Bikes are so easy to work.on. Libraries are also good resources.

Yes it does...it's weighs a little more than a Kleenex and is designed to block wind and provide warmth using polartec in a very well engineered way. the whole thing rolls up and fits in a jersey pocket too...

    Rapha Brevet Insulated Jacket.

    www.Rapha.cc

This versatile jacket is made for days when the weather is hard to predict. The fast-drying and hydrophobic properties of Polartec® Alpha® mean the jacket won’t hold water like natural down insulation and with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating you can watch the rain roll off.
Soft, brushed jersey side panels add warmth and allow the jacket to stretch over full pockets, while reflective detailing increases visibility in low light. When not in use the jacket rolls up neatly, secured by an elasticated loop at the neck.

You guys buying trainers are crazy. Put that gym membership to use and go to an AM spin class. HUNGGGG, so many fine womans, and can still upload to strava. Indoor training is so boring!!! Nothing comes close to the real deal.

Not even close to hibernation for me just yet, I love riding at this time of year. Haven't hit sub zero temperatures just yet, although my feet were a bit cold in 5-8C. Shame I'm only managing 1 ride a week at the moment.

Half marathon this weekend. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. RIP knees.

I got a good lady. My son loves assisting with directions on zwift. I like the idea of jumping in the mext room for a shower as well.

Gym memberships are for squats n deads. Nothing more.

Also not more expensive than alternatives if you get it on sale. Rapha has rolling sales just like Banana Republic so you should never need to pay full price. Also, they have lifetime repair guarantee. If they can't repair it free of charge, they will give you 50% off a new item. Delivered to your door with free returns. Once you figure out your size, it's tough to justify buying something else, I've found.

    Fellow bike brahs:

If anyone is in the market for any "high end" or "high ticket" cycling related stuff that normally NEVER goes on sale, like Garmin, power meters, etc.... CleverTraining is running their twice yearly VIP sale where you get 20% off any single item. I used the last one to buy the power meter on my commuter bike, now I'm realllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy having to fight the urge to buy a second (carbon this time) for my road bike. If you're not already a VIP member, it does cost a measly $5 to join, but $5 to save 20% on a Garmin or a power meter is really a no-brainer.
    Check it out:

    http://www.clevertraining.com/

EDIT: most Garmin stuff is NOT included in the deal, but they do have $100 off the Edge 820 and Fenix 5. I thought I remember it being included in the last deal. Sorry about that brahs.

Pretty impressive to have a $400+ truing stand, tension meter and dishing gauge in your garage and be able to do it in 5 minutes.

Not saying you shouldn't fix your bike at home but I am saying don't be the guy that tries to true a wheel with pliers and makes it worse just to bring it to me.

Still high 30's/low 40's here, so I'll be out in the mornings for a few more weeks. If I pick up some lobster gloves and a neck gaiter I think I can be reasonably comfortable down into the mid-high 20's.
