Here we go
Should I buy a prebuilt NAS like Synology or just build a pc for a dedicated home server.
Id just be storing photos and storing a bunch of mkv movies and using plex on the server.
If I go the PC route I need the cheapest build possible that can do plex transcoding for 4k>>>>>Florida State Seminoles Tomahawk Nation Crew>>>>>

Yeah the Godlike and Aorus Xtreme are both over 500$+ and barely even better. Not the same category of consumer anymore, more like prosumer.
I got mine on sale for 260$ (Normally retail at 300-350$) And it’s better than anything under 500$.
Best VRMs
Best new Bios lately for OC
Dual Bios
Huge heatsink backplate
Armor/heat sink everything
DAC on board
All the bells and whistles
ASUS cheapened out this gen losing reputation while Gigabyte went above and beyond trying to raise their reputation and build consumer rapport so they gave us a lot of value at each price point this gen.

you as well.
btw which 92mm fan should I get out of these two for under the gpu?

yeah it is but I just now realized the GPU fans dont actually blow out. they pull in into the card so that bottom area under the GPU is actually suction.
I just got these 3 Noctua fans :
this 140 regular to replace the top stock case exhaust fan:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this 120 high pressure to put on the inside of Kraken radiator pulling/pushing air towards the GPU (with 2 Kraken pressure fans pushing from the outside in.)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this 92 fan for under the GPU
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Come to find out GPU fans are intake so I think the 92 might actually be pointless unless I use it also as an intake for the underside of the gPU to pull air but that would be going against the grain of the over all flow. it might be too many fans?
this case is very “unique” in how it cools GPU better in stock fans than with positive pressure. I can really do any setup I want with so many fans but cant decide what is best.
low CPU temps are easy, lowest GPU temps are the goal here.Last edited by KingSWRV; 01-01-2020 at 05:25 PM.

Been struggling with my new build.
Trying to get a HTPC build cheap. The goal is to store all my blu ray and DVDs on this thing so I can get rid of my giant shelf.
I already have a 620 watt modular PSU looking for a home.
The new Ryzen 5 1600 AF seems to behave on par with a 2600 and at $85.
I could get a 3200G instead and not need a dedicated GPU. (I could also go micro ITX)
However, the RX 570 murders the APU and should be good enough to play games on console graphics. (Another option would be to drop my RX 590 in here and upgrade my desktop GPU)

Based on the charts... this number 1 best value CPU in existence. It seems to basically perform like a low binned 2600, but at $85.
If you can get it to hold the 4200 1.4 OC it is on par with a 2600x.
If you are building a computer under $700 this should be your CPU.

I'm looking at making the switch from console to PC gaming.
90% of the time will be hardcore FPS and then games such as The Witcher.
But I really want equipment that'll ensure i'm not lagging behind in FPS.
From my limited understanding maximum threads/cores isn't necessary so I wouldn't need the most current Ryzen CPU.
Is the Ryzen 5 3600 or 3600X what I'd want from a CPU for FPS gaming?
Also, what motherboard would I want?
And what graphics card would I want? For my first build I really don't want to be dropping $2,000+ on the graphics card alone! Is there a lesser version I could get away with that wouldn't affect my FPS?

What is target resolution? Streaming or non? Budget?
Off the top of my head I would buy this. Basically the UPPER end of value. Anything more and you start getting significantly less performance per dollar.
If you are streaming you will want to sub out for either the 2060S or 2070S.

Thanks for the response broseph.
Target resolution... no idea what that means!
Does the monitor make a difference in regards to gaming? I'm ok not seeing 50 different shades of green in the grass if it means i'm saving $500 on a monitor, or are more expensive for significant reasons?
Budget I'd probably look at around $1500-$2000 US dollars (am in Australia)
I don't want to get lower everything and then have to upgrade straight away - I want to ensure what I buy won't need to be upgraded for another couple of years at least.

AS of TODAY right now this is what I would get assuming you need to fit monitor, keyboard, and mouse into that price point.
This will be for 1080P 144+ Ultra Gaming, but can handle 1440P 70+ FPS gaming.
Nothing is the best, but nothing is horrible.

Sorry for the delayed reply bro - but huge thanks for taking the time to research that.
I'm about to head overseas for a holiday, and wouldn't be putting together my computer I don't think until April or thereabouts.
Having no idea about the tech world I have no idea whether there's a certain time of the year when new hardware is released/goes on sale etc etc.
Come April would I still be looking at those items you mention above, or are there talks of new products coming out etc?

Don't build your rig months before you need it.
Pretty much all of what I recommended was the best value as of that exact moment if I was to redo it for you today a lot of those parts would be substituted.
Australia does weird things with prices so I am not sure, but your new best gpu is probably the 2060 or 5600 XT. Come back in April.Finance Degree - USAF INTEL - IIFYM - Injured Crew - KTM XCW300 - Single Track Trail Rider - NRA Supporter - Shunned from MFC - Libertarian - Pragmatist

Yes PSUs vary a lot in quality. I used to mine BTC back in the day and prob went through around 40 PSUs. I was running them bascially at their max limit 24/7 in a really hot room. The low quality PSUs would fail within the first few weeks whereas I had several PSUs from Seasonic that lasted years under these conditions.

For 4k if you are wanting higher FPS I can see the desire.
I mostly am just confused by AMD and Nvidia's pricing strategy.
AMD needs to be offering more FPS/$ to make up for their bad drivers. Instead they release a round of entry level cards less powerful than their polaris based counterparts that are also more expensive...
The cards should be set up like this.
$120
$160 (RX 590 performance)
$200
$240
$280
$320
$420
$570
$870
Each tier should be 10% more powerful than previous tier. Why AMD didn't set that pricing structure I have NO idea.Finance Degree - USAF INTEL - IIFYM - Injured Crew - KTM XCW300 - Single Track Trail Rider - NRA Supporter - Shunned from MFC - Libertarian - Pragmatist

Thinking hard about selling my 2080Ti now before it's worth ~30% less when 3000 series launches.
Meh...don't really think it's worth it in my situation though. I'm not interested in playing at 4K and my 2080Ti is still obliterating every title I've ever played on ultra settings at 1440 resolution with no problem at all. I get too caught up in having the best at all times.

To be fair after the bios update it is pretty damn close to the 2060 (if you get lucky with their crazy memory OC and Cooling solution AND get a card with a bios update.) Like WTF how did AMD Processor division start so strong and then the GPU division fuk it up so bad.
They had the product stack to fill my pricing tier list PERFECT.
$120
$160 (RX 590 performance)
$200 (This card would have had 5% LESS performance than the 1660 Super) AMAZING VALUE
$240 (5% more perfomance than the 1660 super.)
$280 4% less performance than 2060
$320 O look The 5700. Roughly 6% better than 2060.
$420 O look the 5700 XT
Like how the fuk do you not plan this out. They would be fuking Nvidia out of every price point.
Instead I can only recommend an RX 590 and 5700 Xt. It was SO EASY.Finance Degree - USAF INTEL - IIFYM - Injured Crew - KTM XCW300 - Single Track Trail Rider - NRA Supporter - Shunned from MFC - Libertarian - Pragmatist
