Ended up getting a fair amount of the parts. Noted about the memory, thanks! Just like the way it looks lmao. So much of this is unnecessary given the amount of time I have for gaming. Though it’s my only hobby besides the gym which only costs me 30 a month.
As for the post above, feel like I’m missing something. Got the CPU for 430 after bundle at microcenter, gpu 1k even from Newegg and 850w gold psu ended up being 120 I think. Am I missing something?
Anyway thanks for the help fellas I’m sure I’ll have a lot more questions. Appreciate the responses.
And yea I’ll prob sell the 2080ti and get a 3080ti next holiday if it’s a lot better.SCC - Redskins - Wizards

Besides the CPU cooler, Ram, and Fans (Which appear to be all selected for appearance and not value, but are functional.)
Everything appears well placed.
If you bought the 660p at $80 it is a great choice. If you held off and are flirting with the $100 price point get the Sabrent Rocket as has a proper controller.Finance Degree - USAF INTEL - IIFYM - Injured Crew - KTM XCW300 - Single Track Trail Rider - NRA Supporter - Shunned from MFC - Libertarian - Pragmatist

In general.
I like building value builds where possible. BEST value and performance for x budget unless you have specific requirements.
For SSD that is price per GB. However, the 660p/p.1 is not really a 1 tb drive. It is really an 800 GB drive or your performance will be HDD.
In recent months the Sabrent Rocket is usually $110. To be equal in value the 660p/P.1 needs to be under $88.Finance Degree - USAF INTEL - IIFYM - Injured Crew - KTM XCW300 - Single Track Trail Rider - NRA Supporter - Shunned from MFC - Libertarian - Pragmatist

Check out the Qpad QH-85 Pro.
Open cans. Pretty decent drivers for the price.
https://forums.tomsguide.com/threads...s-open.414317/
I have been using them for many years and they deliver quite nice sound.
I have them hooked into a hrt microstreamer dac.
They deliver quite balanced sound, I usually use them when watching youtube, gaming and listening to eletronica.

Might start building tomorrow. Fairly confident in the physical process, any good tools or vids you guys know of for beginners as far as after the build? Like how to make sure drives are set up properly, which programs to use to tell if everything is going alright etc. less confident in that

I usually do the following when building / upgrading a system:
1. Go into bios, choose the XMP profile/RAM speed that's on the box of your RAM
2. Install Windows, when booted up, update it
3. Go to your motherboards support page and download the necessary drivers (usually network card, sound card, usb drivers, chipset drivers) and install them
4. Download graphics drivers for your GPU and install them
5. Download CPU-Z to check if everything seems okay (if clocks looks like they should), also check the BIOS version in CPU-Z vs the latest version that's out on the manufacturers website
Optional tools: Open Hardware Monitor or equivalent, MSI Afterburner for your GPU (can tweak clocks, fan curve etc), CrystalDiskInfo for information about your drives, CrystalDiskMark for benching your drives to see if they are delivering what they should. You can also check "Computer Management" > "Disk Management" to see if your disks and partitions look correct.

Hey fellas. Everything went well. Booted etc right out the gate. On the top m.2 slot one of the screws stripped, but literally nothing else went wrong which was nice. Will have to get some pics up for you all. 9 Fans is a bit aids though, especially the 6 LL120s with the commander pro wires annoying af. But for a first build seems to be fine so far except for the below.
Quick question about overclocking. I figure that because they released the I9 9900KS that the Ks left over wouldn't be great. But i can't seem to hold much of an overclock at all. Any of you have experience with this? There is a 360mm AIO. The cores still around 26-31C when idle web browsing etc. The system keeps throttling down the voltage and clock speeds in cinebench..like way down..even though the temps are at like 70. For example it wants to kick it back to 3.3GHz or something and then the test just runs the remainder of the testwith the temps in the low 60s...Thoughts?
Thanks!SCC - Redskins - Wizards

Lawd. Been playing The Witcher 3 on Ultra presets with HDR 4k...das it mane. Das it. The Asus 27PG27UQ is awesome. Went back and overclocked again to 5GHz and it definitely boosted the frames by like 12fps average i'd say? (though tbh with the g-sync chit I couldn't tell the difference at all)....and temps are no where near a concern and no crashes. So not sure why it wont run a benchmark for more than a few seconds before down clocking. I was playing for a while. Oh well. All in all a pretty successful day building my first PC. Prob try and overclock the 2080 ti this week.

This is gonna be dumb af I know but what's the diff between a small gpu and a big gpu of the same gpu? Is it just better cooling as it's got 2 fans? There's only a £10 difference.
Example:

I'd help you but I'm not clicking through those links.
In general you want the smaller version of the same GPU for a small form factor build. If it's not going in a tiny case get the standard version for better cooling and acoustics.Me caveman, put round things on bar, lift, pound chest.

Temperatures, clock speed and OC potential.
I have an 1080 mini and it's better than some regular 1080 cards and it OCs well, but not as well as the top cards & the fans (Zotac minis, at least) don't stop when under load. 33% speed at least which can get annoying for some.Arsenal F.C / San Antonio Spurs

A few new PC gamer questions. Have you guys ever had any issues getting RivaTuna to work? can't seem to get the FPS/CPU overlay on any games. Also do you guys play all games with mouse and keyboard or just a few? Third person action games (non-shooter) feel weird as fuk to me with a mouse.
Also any tricks/tips you have lol. Brb had to figure out how to alt/tab out of the game lmao.Last edited by Elvis.Costello; 12-09-2019 at 05:51 PM.
