Just ordered one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Even though I already have an Alienware Graphics Amplifier, it doesn't support my Vega 64 (partly due to size, and partly because it requires a BIOS update which I am unwilling to install). The Sonnet should work with any Thunderbolt 3 enabled machine anyway, so looking toward the future if/when I get something different than my Alienware 13, as long as it has a Thunderbolt 3 port (even non-gaming machines like Ultrabooks or Macbooks), I'll be able to use an external GPU.
I got the 550w version, as the Vega 64 is power hungry as fukc."That boulder is too large. I could lift a smaller one."

the price. I don't even really play much games besides runescape though lmao. I actually canceled the 1080 on ebay, but there not like amazon and newegg didnt let me cancel before they shipped it out. My friend said he would give me $20 bucks more than what i paid so it works out.

Finishing up a build and have a question about the fan configuration. I current have two intake fans in the front and one exhaust fan in the back. I'm getting an AIO cooler for my cpu which comes with two fans that will sit at the top of the case as exhaust fans. Does it matter if the negative pressure balance is for exhaust or do I need to flip the rear fan around and make it an intake fan as well?

Oh, so quick funny story.
I have an UNRAID server, and I was cleaning one day.
Now cleaning is dangerous for me. Something almost always breaks, which is why I leave my place messy. It's safe....
Well, I was cleaning and BOOM kicked hard into my server, tripped over and almost fell. Uh oh... hope that didn't break anything.
Nope... ok....
Well... couple weeks later... all the drives disappear, long story short, I turn that thing off. Fail!
Well, I was sad for a couple months, then I said no, I won't give up. I will rebuild! So I bought a LOT of 8TB HDDs, I think about 8 of them? Some 5s to. I had 10 HDDs total. I knew I had some working ones, but how many I didn't know. Maybe 2-4. Either way, I'd rebuild my server....
So, I post online for some help on recovering from a massive failure, and find out, ya, of course, all my hdds are fine! Lol....
I recover....
Then, I try to expand! I had one more HDD already in there, unplugged waiting for expansion, I plug it in, try to expand....
HDDs start dropping.
I can't figure out why.
Finally I decide I need a new power supply. So I try to buy 1000W+ power supply so I never have to think about this problem again for my server. Well.... PHUCK CRYPTO MINERS!! Lol, I forgot they need PSUs too! So now I'm trying to find something in stock and reasonable priced ugh.
I get the new powersupply, I am about to plug it into the power strip, but the cable won't reach.
Ugh, the wall is right there, whats the worst that can happen. Plug it in, flip the switch on the PSU, POP!!!!!!!
Sparks!!!!
Darknessssssssssss.
Breaker flipped.
Great, well, now I need a new PSU... AGAIN!!!! So I return that to Amazon and buy ANOTHER EVGA PSU from Amazon (Evga still good brand).
This one works, and finally, I'm stable, I only lost 1-2 HDDs, and that was from trying to expand actually. So I have a ton more HDDs sitting in my closet, as I don't have enough HDD space left to use in my current server, so I'll need a new server chassis for more expansion asap.
Now I just need me some old xeons/threadripper.

When using a eGPU for the laptop how hot does your laptop run? Does it throttle less when not using the onboard GPU?

Raja from AMD went to intel to not make GPUs???
Yes, although if it's a decent design laptop, throttling shouldn't really be an issue from the start.
Clear the fans of dust.
Learn to disassemble your laptop if you really want to have maximum performance out of it, and clean interior of dust.
Laptops/mobile setups just are harder to disassemble and clean, but still can be used well.

Definitely runs cooler. The GPU was running around 68 degrees under load, and 28-32 idle. The system itself never felt hot, and playing games at QHD it seemed to be doing an excellent job. I imagine going forward a few years into the Nvidia 11 or even 12 series, it should be a nice method of keeping the laptop relevant. It'll be quite a while before a 7700HQ bottlenecks anything/isn't useful for gaming.
I didn't notice any throttling."That boulder is too large. I could lift a smaller one."

So, limitations in the G-sync module makes the new 144 Hz 4K monitors sub-par because of bandwidth limitations in the G-sync module.

Guess we should keep supporting noVideo in their continued efforts to be market dominating while delivering subpar proprietary technology.
