Klipshe rpm 600ii I got around black Friday. Sub and receiver under my desk
The they live poster is actually a drawing, I did it on my iPad a few years ago. And photoshop ofc. Before I broke my wrist and hand I did alot of art, prints, t-shirts, etc. But surgery really fugged up my drawing wrist and hand so I haven't done much in a couple of years.
Before my accident I had repainted my entire computer room and planned to do murals on all the walls with spray paint and airbrush but I can't squeeze a spray can for hours on end anymore like I used to so now I just have blank white walls lol. I have decided to leave them plain to motivate myself to one day paint again.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

Unfortunately my side hustle slowed down alot when Costco phased out all of their photo labs. I was a manager at one for a long time and I was able to make my prints while I worked for 3-5 dollars, then sell them for 20-30 per print. I would usually do booths at expos and events and flea markets.
Since I have no place to get good physical prints anymore the cost of having them printed somewhere, then mailed to me, then I mail them out, just isn't as worth it anymore. Plus since I ran the photo lab, I did all the maintenance on the machines so I could make sure my prints were perfect. I had the ideal setup for someone doing what I was doing.Sometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

PSU died on my computer which has an older CPU so gonna build or buy a new one.
I have a 3080TI and RAM that I would keep.
Can I buy a computer with no graphics card and RAM or am I gonna need to buy parts and learn to build one.
Open to suggestions on CPU also or any other component. I guess I could go to Newegg or a site with pre-builts that have 3080TIs and newer CPUs and just delete the 3080 and RAM. Or some of the RAM depending. Seems like a good plan.Stern Crew

Anyone here use a standing desk?
Basically: I bought an Alienware 34" QD OLED and love it. I want to get a monitor arm, and a stand for my laptop so that I can use it on the side. E.g., I'd be playing a game on my monitor but have work chats/e-mails etc. open on the laptop beside me. Cable management is super important.
I'd want a really nice keyboard/mouse tray. I saw ergotron's and I use the full size lg 915 keyboard: the space for the mouse on the right hand side wouldn't be enough for when I play fps or most games to be honest.
So the general question is: any of you brahs set up a nice standing desk with a laptop stand/arm, as well as a monitor arm, and a keyboard tray etc? I'm finding it very difficult to spec this out in a way that makes sense.

You can buy a computer that only has graphics on the motherboard, and has a free slot to put your graphics card in. This is what I did with my last computer.
You probably won't find one with no RAM, but you should be able to find one with only a small amount of RAM so you'll still have space to put in what you already have. You'll need to check how many RAM slots the motherboard has and how many of those are already being used, and also that you have the correct type of RAM for the motherboard.

I have a 5950x that barely goes above 60. But I have 6 fans on my corsair h150i cooler, 3 pulling in cold air from outside the case and 3 on the other side pushing into the case. Then 6 case fans, 3 on bottom pulling air in and 3 on top exhausting air out.
My cpu rests at like 40-50, then 65 tops if I'm gaming for a while. Adding all the fans and switching to a lian li 011 dynamic Evo case made a huuuuge difference. Prior to that I had a nzxt h710i case and it was pure trash by comparison. Temps were so bad I couldn't even out the case window on. The lian li allows me to mount my radiator against the back of the case with room for 3 fans on each side of the radiatorSometimes I park in handicap spaces, while handicap people make handicap faces

It sounds like you are a bit off on your guesses.
Power used = Heat
In most systems the GPU is by far the biggest draw.
Ryzen has historically been more power efficient than intel. Though models matter.
The better your cooler the faster the room heats up.
If you have a Ryzen 7000 system they have a setting that will allow the CPU to OC until 95 degrees. So if you are running a 7950xt with that setting on while rendering it is very possible that it is pulling a lot of watts with that beefy of a Cooler. You can adjust that setting if that is an issue.
Keep in mind the "wattage" on the CPU/GPU box are made up numbers and don't have anything to do with power used.Finance Degree - USAF INTEL - IIFYM - Injured Crew - KTM XCW300 - Single Track Trail Rider - NRA Supporter - Shunned from MFC - Libertarian - Pragmatist

The 4090 is the real deal.
I just wanted to test it out in WoW ( I know). With my 5850 w/ my eVGA 3090 FTW3 OC I was getting maybe 30-40 FPS in the major city (where everyone hangs out) and my graphics setting was set at 6 and I even lowered some other options. I would get dips like to 15FPS too. Playing on 4k too.
With my new PC 13900k w/ ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC and graphics set to max I getting a steady 100FPS in heavy traffic areas with it dipping it to the mid 70s.
WoW is an old game so it's no optimized like newer games, so gains like this are ****ing huge and I can actually play on my 48" C1 OLED 4k with feeling like a slide show in raids and chit.†Italian Crew†

My current PC is on the fritz (legit cheapest PC I could find a couple of years ago - only had 1 year warranty lulz) so I'm thinking of just building a gaming PC and have it as a one-stop shop - but unsure what key pieces of kit I need for what I'll be doing (such as what version of a GPU/CPU/RAM etc).
Gaming:
- Warzone
- Games such as Witcher 3 on best possible settings
- I want to future proof so I can play games that are released over the next 2-3 years on best possible settings
- I don't really think 4K is a necessity? Happy for someone to argue this point though
Non-gaming:
- stream a lot of sports and have multiple tabs running at once - the reason I mention this is because current trash PC when I begin to open a few tabs the pages start to stutter and the computer freezes for X amount of time before finally loading everything properly. I'm not sure what component of a new build I'd need to ensure is good to make sure this problem doesn't happen - ie is it the CPU or RAM?
I'm thinking of an AMD CPU with an Nvidia GPU - are there benefits to going an AMD GPU in addition to the CPU? I was leaning Nvidia because I hear of them the most/just assume they're better?Last edited by bananastand11; 03-17-2023 at 07:16 PM.

You are posting on a more or less dead forum.
Depending on your budget you should be looking at a few different possible CPUs depending on what you value. Assuming you are building new you should be getting one of these.
5600, 7600, 13600k, 7800x3d.
RAM should be at least 16 GB in two sticks. Your problem is likely related to 1 8 GB stick running single channel.
IF price to performance were more or less equal I would be recommending NVIDIA. However, in the US AMD MURDERS Nvidia in price to performance on the low-mid end (NEW). So I recommend AMD GPUS for gamers (Not content creators) to all new buyers UNTIL they have expensive machines.
<200 buy used.
$200 6600 1080P
$260-$280 6600xt/6650xt. (The 6650xt is a little better, but don't pay more than $20 more. 1080p High FPS
$350-$370 6700xt/6750xt 1080p 144+ ultra/1440p with setting adjustments.
$460-$500 6800 1440p, but less adjustments. Used 3080s are viable at this price point.
$530-580 6800xt 1440p Ultra with 100+ FPS
$800 4070ti/7900xt - The 4070 TI is the first REAL RT option. You will probably be upscaling from 1080p to 1440p to get good FPS, but it can handle it. Then the 7900xt is better with pure raster. Toss up.
$1000 7900xtx - RT performance right around 3080ti, but raster a little better than 4080
$1200 4080 (Only if you value RT)
$1600 4090 I want the best and I wipe my butt with $$$.
What I would pick depends on budget. I think 4k is dumb unless you can afford a 4090 or only play RPGs. I think 1440p is the sweet spot at decent budget.
If you are spending less than $1200 you should be getting a 5600 with the best GPU you can get to work in your budget. (This is where prebuilts fail as they will try to upgrade your CPU at the expense of your GPU budget)
Somewhere around $1200 you should start looking at the 7600/13600k. Both will be the same for your purposes though the 13600k is objectively better in content creation. Stay here until you start looking at the 4080/7900xtx.
Somewhere around $1800 you can start looking at the 7800x3d (not released yet, but should be soon. )Last edited by Austanian; 03-20-2023 at 09:45 AM.
