Sup boyos, was looking into only a GPU update but my build is 5 years old....so considering a new rig now.
Do you guys sell your old components, and is it worth the hassle? I usually just scrapped my rigs - which are mid-range at best at the time I make them.

It looks like people do well with local sales. It can't hurt to try Ebay though. Personally I just give them to friends and family for super cheap.
You might want to hold off until April when AMD releases Zen 2. Supposed to be affordable 16-core architecture and possibly a new chipset supporting PCIe 4?

Hey brahs which one of these monitors should I get?
Acer Predator XB270HU 27in FreeSync IPS 144Hz Gaming Monitor
- already ordered this it was supposed to come this week coming on the 28/1 fuken annoyed
- cheaper in budget
- can cancel order if I decide to get the other
- good reviews
- don't need to deal with sales people anymore if I stick with this
Acer Predator XB271HU 27" WQHD G-SYNC 2 144Hz (165Hz OC) 4MS IPS LED Gaming Monitor
- will cost me $140 more
- g-sync is a plus because I've got MSI GeForce RTX2070 ARMOR 8GB...I don't know if it's worth the premium though
- stretches budget quite a bit
- I can get it on the 10th so I can build and do everything at the same time
- good reviews
- need to calibrate no idea how to do that
I also didn't include kb and mouse into my budget, but I bought them recently because they were on sale, this has left me with less money, so I've added to my budget.
This is my first build, so I don't want to spend heaps, but I also want ample time to build and troubleshoot if needed.
I was originally going to get a VA monitor, but I asked around and everyone said get IPS panel.LFC YNWA

So ive been doing some overclocking with the 9900k. I went to 5.2GHz all cores @1.375v and ran the small pack torture test on Prime 95 for an hour and was stable.
however, i cant finish a cinebench test it freezes up halfway. So u up'd the voltage to 1.395 with level 7 load line and it still locks up in cinebench. Except now prime 95 shoots up to 89 C.
So i went back to play some GTA V for an hr and its stable. Kinda confused why i cant finish cinebench prob need 1.4v but it seems stable in games so going to drop the voltage

When I am overclocking I first run cinebench.
If that works satisfactory I then try to run 3DMark benches (Time Spy & Fire Strike Extreme).
If these benchmarks complete without a hitch, then if the overclock is "large" or very different from my previous OC then I will use either AIDA or Prime95 and MemTest (https://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html), but MemTest86 seems to be even better.
If the OC pass these then it most likely is stable. Also doesn't hurt to fire up a game on ultra (OW, BF1, Division etc).

I ended up going with the predator, I should be getting it this week or the beginning of nekk week. Asked for a better deal best he could do is $30 off, better than nothing.
Aiight sweet I've read that I'll have to anyways with this monitor.
Dat feel when you get a g-sync monitor and a couple hours later Nvidia releases this statement...Not changing my order this time.LFC YNWA

VA stands for "Vertical Alignment". The entire purpose of it is to improve viewing angles. VA Color isn't as good as IPS, but in my opinion, IPS glow tends to create a 'washed out' effect because the areas of the screen that may be effected by it tend to be more "grey" than "black".
Now, if you can get an IPS panel with zero backlight bleed, then it's a really good experience. Since the vast majority of the time I think people tend to sit directly in front of the screen while using their PC (unless someone else is there watching you play games/watch a movie or something), viewing angles aren't really that important anyway."That boulder is too large. VA has the better blacks/contrast ratio. Response time isnt that great so i dont know why they are talking them up. The ips i just bought has a 4ms response time. The average VA is 4/5ms
VA monitors are susceptible to clouding or bleeding towards the edges of the screen, this is very noticeable in gaming and the reason its not highly adopted/suitable for gaming. IPS have much better color accuracy. If there was a side by side test you would easily choose the IPS it just looks so much better. IPS have better viewing angles
Still, the contrast while not as good as an OLED is still fantastic and a big selling point for VAs

I personally don't miss my IPS panel over my VA panel.
I even find my TN panels to be decent after adjusting their colors to a satisfactory level.
InstantLoser has covered the VA vs IPS very well.
You have heaps of different IPS and VA panels too.
My VA monitor is of the MVA type which is an interesting panel type (Samsung S32D850T).

I'm hoping there's no complications with HDR FreeSync capable monitors taking advantage of the new Nvidia support for adaptive sync. I know when they were originally doing their 144hz HDR panels that they had trouble getting GSYNC + HDR + the high refresh rates all working together. My panel is only 60hz though, with DP 1.4/USB C Gen2, so I'm hoping there's no issue with the implementation. Come January 15th, I hope to be enjoying tear-free, buttery smoothness.

took 3 weeks but i finally got my Ducky One tenkeyless keyboard with cherry MX browns. Replacing my K70 with cherry MX blues (novelty of loud/super clicky/65g keys wore away)
Feels nice and compact. Just debating whether I should get a wrist rest for it now. That was one advantage the K70 had, with its built in wrist rest

Oh damm good thing restarting it did the trick. I hope i don't have issues because dealing with acer warranty is painful, apparently.
Das it mane I hope i also hit the panel lottery.
Everything I read/watched stated IPS has the best viewing angles and colour reproduction which will give you the most buiriful experience.LFC YNWA

Just built my first PC!!
Been messing around with Davinci Resolve a bit more and have a bit of work coming up for some video editing work. I also have done some pretty big pano shots lately that my laptop was struggling with.
AMD 2700x
MSI Tomahawk
gskill trident z 3200 cl14 32 gig
Sapphire Vega 64
Samsung 1 tb 970 EVO Pro m.2 (will be used for cache and current projects)
Samsung ssd 860 evo 500 gig (used for OS and program files)
2 4 TB HD set up as Raid 1 for archiving files
Case is Fractal Design Define C ATX
So far pretty happy with it. Was fun building it even though I had to trouble shoot a couple little issues. I was hoping to liquid cool everything but now that I have everything in the case I'm not sure I could pull that off in the current case.
