    Building Lean Muscle

Hey I'm a 17 year old male who plays football and basketball. I am currently around 5'10" and 168 pounds. I have a low body fat and mostly muscle however much of my muscle is sarcoplasmic. I have a broad chest, and people often mistake my weight for being heavier than I actually am. I want to work on building thicker denser muscle. I lift around 4-5 times a week for football. I want to also cut down on body fat. Is there a way for me to lose body fat and sarcoplasmic muscle while also building myofibrillar muscle? I want to appear less heavy than I actually him and give off the appearance of tightly toned dense muscle. Would I have to lose my sarcoplasmic muscle in order to build myofibrillar muscle or could I cut down on body fat and some sarcoplasmic muscle while also building myofibrillar muscle? I want to look less like a body builder and more like a dense powerful athlete. I am looking for a workout regime or cardio and description of a diet to achieve this.

Myofibrillar hypertrophy and sarcoplasm volume both increase at the same time in the same proportions. People who look "dense" rather than "bulky" simply have lower bodyfat. This is a bit like the insulin of the training world - things would be simpler and results would be no different if you'd never heard of its existence.

I recommend looking at a system like Tactical Barbell for athletes. This will build muscle and assist your sport.

I have a big ez bar and plates that is like Tactical because you can use different hand formations..right?
I think it comes with age and time too 15 years of working out builds dense muscle, also known as "muscle maturity."

I'm a little sceptical about this idea. I think probably what's happening is older trainees have thinner skin - so it's easier for them to look more shredded.

This is apparent if you've used caliper charts - which have different numbers for different age groups.
