You have it backwards, with the DB you can contract the chest more as you are not limited with your movement. I.e with the DB you can bring the DB together at the top of the movement and contract the chest.RATHER RUN WITH 5 LIONS THAN 100 SHEEP....

Depending on how you do them.
Most people tilt the DB's inward with the lower arms when holding them and that takes stress off the pecs and puts it more on the triceps.The DB's themselves should be held either parallel to the floor the entire rep or slightly tilted outward with the hands.
Also keep arms out near a 90 degree angle away from the body for best pec stimulation.
When coming up try thinking of bringing the upper arms together in an arcing motion and squeeze.
Feel the movement don't just muscle the weight up if you have a bodybuilding goal.
