    Just turned 34. Need advice.

    Hello all,

New here and just turned 34 and recently got divorced. Anyway, I'm wanting to get into better shape and build some muscle. I've recently lost a lot of weight dealing with the aftermath of ending a 15 year marriage. I'm 5'11" and weigh 180. I still have a little bit of a gut but it's almost flat. I went from a size 38 pants to a size 32. What are some of the things I can do to work on getting abs and more muscles? Is it too late for me since I'm 34 or is it still possible? I have access to a gym with free weights and machines at my apartments and I have no idea where to begin or what exercises or lifting to do other than cardio because I've never done it before. I know this seems like a silly post but I really have no idea where to begin.

Sounds like a good time to start training. Yes you can make plenty of progress. You will get out of it what you put into it.

Start here. This is really everything you need to know for now. Stick to the basics they work.

Take progress pics and measurements, changes happen slowly over time and will allow you to better determine progress.
A bigger back will make a bigger waist look a little smaller....

Thanks bro. I will start tomorrow. Will I have to start drinking all those powdered drinks or start taking things from GNC? I know I need to up my protein intake to build muscle , is that correct?

I posted a Day 1 picture of myself on my progress so you can see what exactly I'm working with. Thanks for your reply.

Don't waste your money on GNC and expensive powders! You need to get the most of your nutrition from whole food sources, and this website has everything you need for diet and training!

It's never too late, but just remember that this is a lifestyle.....not a means to an end!

Depends on how you are eating now, and how you change your eating over time. LMAO@ gnsee. This is BB.com, aka a supplement nexus.

Most people probably wouldn't agree but if I could back 8 years to when I started out I would have started with basic progressions rather than core lifts.

In other words, rather than putting a bar on my back and squatting weight, I wish I would have forced myself to master all of the basic movements that a make up a squat before actually squatting a barbell.

For example, here is a great site with squat progressions: https://dieselsc.com/how-to-build-st...t-progression/

What I ended up doing instead was taking a broken down 38 year old body, lifted a bunch of weight and broke it down further. Wasted way too much time personally where I could have spent that first 6 months or so learning to move properly.

    Never to late.
I would suggest you invest in a trainer/coach to get you going in the right direction with training and diet.
You need to have solid technique on exercises as well as a solid nutrition plan.
You may only need a trainer for a few months and then you can get going on your own.
Do your research on them if you do decide to get one.
See what others have to say about them and see if they can help you with your specific goals.
Most will give a free one on one consultation so you can question them and see if they are a fit for you.
    Good luck.

A good idea, but I'd be cautious, there are a lot of trainers out there that are just horrible. I don't remember the acronym off the top of my head but I think there is a strength and conditioning coaching certification that is supposed be pretty decent at weeding out the worst of them.

That is my natural hair, and that is the first time I've been asked that question.
