I have a stoner kid I work with whose family is extremely wealthy, he's a mega pothead who is a musical savant but who knows if he ever reaches full potential as a human because he's already got the maturity of a 14yr old due to a decade of pot smoking.
I wasn't really defining it. I was referring to zinkhan99's usage of it. However, I think society uses it as a means to define someone who doesn't contribute anything to society but takes.

I used to be pro legalization of marijuana but anything that contributes to more laziness, procrastination, gluttony, low T is not something our society needs. One argument I commonly hear is that its safer than cigarettes - my response is the cigarettes should have been taken off the market years ago much like substances that were shown to be cancer causing or teratogenic or otherwise harmful.

IMO the push to keep marijuana illegal is due to its current profitability to various factions; law enforcement, prisons, drug cartels, and supposedly banks...that sweet drug money.

From what I have read it does seem to be damaging for young people whose brains are still developing.

So legalize it, put an age restriction on it, and tax it.

Make selling it illegally unattractive as a business venture = dry up ready supply to young people = limit damage.

Would also probably mean lower crime rates overall, possibly less opioid abuse/addiction.

But you have to make a case that legalizing/taxing is more profitable overall...keeping it illegal supports a lot of jobs.

This is the obvious libertarian point of view but then from a pure libertarian point of view we shouldn't have restrictions on more harmful drugs either. Our society is lazy and low T enough already, lets not help it along.

If we legalized steroids in the first sentence that will help solve the low T problem in the second?

I was going to make a thread about this but 2nd guessed it as I felt it wouldn't be worth the time. Glad to see this just got to 4 pages. Here is a quote that made me want to put my steel toe boot through the TV...

And I am astonished to hear people suggest that we can solve our heroin crisis by legalizing marijuana—so people can trade one life-wrecking dependency for another that’s only slightly less awful.
SOLVE THE HEROIN CRISIS BY MAKING BUD LEGAL??

    LIFE WRECKING??

ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME?? YOU KNOW NOTHING YOU STUPID OLD FUK!!

Who in the actual FUK ever said ANYTHING like that? Also classifying bud being just as harmful as heroin??

I swear to FUK I am sick of the people in charge of this FUKING country!!

Sorry for the rant post but this is extremely outrageous!

you think there is no cost to the government if they are giving criminal citations instead of arrests? You think that nobody is arrested anymore because you checked one area, an area that probably uses citations, that it applies for the whole country? You think the fines fully cover all of the governments expenses for enforcing needless marijuana laws? You think enforcement is a good use of local and federal taxes and resources?

The actor who played the young man with the joint, Barry Watson. From his Wikipedia page:

Watson was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in May 2002, and went on hiatus from 7th Heaven while he underwent treatment. As of April 2003, it was reportedly in remission, and he began appearing on the program again, starting with the 150th episode.
    Yeah, he smoked pot then.

You're missing the point. Nobody actually believes the nonsense that Sessions and Spicer are spewing, not even themselves. This isn't about moralizing, it's about crony capitalism. It's been that way since day 1.

Edit: Guy who made the quote below gets it (I would add protecting patents on substances legal marijuana would render largely obsolete to the list also)

Overall, I like Jeff Sessions, but one area he gets completely wrong is marijuana/the war on drugs.

Ironically (or not...), legalizing marijuana IS a solution to the opioid epidemic. MJ is a non-addictive, natural analgesic (i.e. painkiller). Who'd've ever thunk that might be a substitute for more addictive and dangerous opioid drugs and not a gateway?!? Sessions is straight up autist.

This Insys is one particularly deplorable big pharma. They are under investigation for shady practices in pushing their version of fentanyl on pain patients that has caused addiction and even overdose deaths. At the same time, they spent a million dollars lobbying to keep MJ illegal so that they could get a patent for synthetic fukcing MJ to market as a painkiller.

MJ is medicine. Can't make billions of dollars keeping people addicted if they're allowed to just grow a non-addictive substitute in their back yard instead.

My son is epileptic. He started having seizures when he was 11. The causes of epilepsy are not well understood. There are regimens of drugs that you are given that totally fukc with your brain until you find one that controls the seizures. We went through drugs that made him moody & irritable, not able to sweat or control his body temperature, struggle with concentration and schoolwork, and had side effects like suicidal thoughts and life-threatening rashes. Not the sort of thing you like to see your 11 or 12 year old son go through.

CBD oil is a THC-free cannabis extract that has been shown to control seizures in some of the worst epilepsy patients. Because cannabis is a schedule 1 drug (right next to heroin and peyote), you have to go through every single one of these psychoactive treatments with crazy and scary side effects, and if they all fail, then you can get a special experimental use waiver to get CBD oil. Isn't that exactly ass-backwards?!? Shouldn't you try the non-addictive plant extract with no or very mild side effects FIRST, and THEN move to the hard core psychoactive drugs if that doesn't work? Because you can't patent a plant, big pharma and their enablers in Congress won't allow it...

So you want the govt to determine what causes laziness, procrastination, gluttony, low T, etc and then have them ban it? No thanks Jeff.

Trump made a huge mistake in letting Sessions become AG.

LOL @ all the retards who think Sessions will go after weed. He literally gave the most political answer possible when asked about it.

Brb said nothing about not going after it (would disqualify him)
Brb said nothing about the enforcement priority

I'm not a hardcore libertarian, but I think libertarian on a lot of issues. My libertarian leanings lead me to believe that we shouldn't have laws governing victimless crimes. In other words, pretty much do whatever you want as long as you're not violating someone else's rights. In drug law, it's easy to say just delete cannabis from the drug schedule altogether and instead govern the behaviors that are potentially dangerous (i.e. sale to minors, DUI, etc). For heroin and hard drugs, it's not so easy. I DO believe that simple possession and use of all drugs should be decriminalized and that an important part of the solution to this crisis is to treat addicts as patients instead of criminals or junkies. Using heroin isn't a violation of anyone else's rights. I won't go all the way to saying these things should be fully legal, though, and I still support laws against manufacturing, distribution, etc. of stuff like heroin, meth, crack. It's a slippery slope type argument as to where to set the line, but there is a valid argument that dealing heroin to a known addict is a crime against them. With the encouraging data thusfar on curbing opioid addiction through MJ legalization and by treating addicts with dignity instead of scorn will go a long way to easing this epidemic.
