They do. They're just not that reliable since they're dependent on the expertise of the person holding the calipers & the formula being used. They're better for trends.
There isn't a perfect way of finding out your bf%. Even the most notable methods, hydrostatic weighing, dexa scan, etc have a 3-5% margin of error.

Hello I have been on these forums just collecting information and doing research and I have got to say this is an amazing place! I just created an account recently and haven't really been using it so this is my first post. Nice to meet you all. But to the point I'm wondering what my body fat is. And also I'm wondering if it even looks like I work out. I used to think so because of others always saying it does and I go to the gym pretty frequently and have done tons of research into different programs, however as of posting these pics idk for sure if it looks like I do. I'd like to hear from people experienced in lifting and whatnot. Thank you all for any help at all! π I weigh 208lbs as of this morning and I am 6'1.5" Also last time I got my body fat tested I was 211lbs and I was tested at 21.5% body fat. Thanks again! My pictures are on my bodyspace.

Also whats recommend a recomp or a total cut for lets say next 3 months. My pics can be found on this topic here - /showthread.php?t=174794331
A humble thanks to everybody for their support!

Can someone estimate my body fat % ?
Hey guys,
Height: 181 CM / 6ft
Weight: 81 KG / 178.5 lb
So, basically, I have gone through a very long journey of first shredding and losing weight down from 100 kg/ 220.5 lb to my current weight. Then, I started lifting weights to gain some muscle mass and I think I did improve a lot. However, I want you to estimate my fat % and tell me your recommendation of workout and dieting. Thank you so much in advance.

About 20%. I would keep cutting until you're 160-165 and then lean bulk.
Clean bulk. You don't have enough muscle to warrant cutting further.
Bf at least 40% Loose skin is an inevitability. Don't let that deter you. It's better to be lean with loose skin than it is to be morbidly obese. You can't help the hopeless.

Hey guys, i've been on and off lifting for the past couple of years but i've always been chubby/obese. I'm 5 foot 5 and currently 206 lbs and i would like to know my BF%. I have high lean body mass(i believe i'm muscular underneath since i lift on and off and i have tree trunk legs)
currently i'm strictly on my cut to lose BF% before i try to gain any more muscle and my diet has been awful for the past year and a half.
