    Thicc boi

    Hi all,

    Stats

    Height: 176cm (5'10")
    Weight: 106.7kg (234.7lb)

seeking some bf% estimates after a 5+ year absence from consistent training. I moved out of my physical job into an office and stopped all exercise, filling my time with an engineering degree which is coming to a close in the next few months. Given that timing I have found myself with some spare time as the closing subjects are quite easy..

For a quick look at how hard I have relapsed jump onto my profile and find my photo from 2014

Also what would you advise I do first?

176 cms tall, 69 kgs by weight.

Dropped from 71 to 69 kgs over the last ten weeks with a 5x weekly dumbbell workout at home (muscle & strength prescribed routine) and 4-5x weekly cycling (200kms+ every week). Also in slight calorific deficit with a reasonable watch on my macros - keeping proteins heavy, carbs and fibres balanced, and fats and sugar low.

Progress has been mapped in the attached image.

Apart from body fat estimate, feel free to shoot general workout advice. My goal is to get rid of the flabby bits around my core and outside my chest, and generally get a leaner and more shredded look with defined pecs and abs. Not too hung up on size, I like the lighter look, and would rather have more athletic stamina than muscle bulk.

    Thanks in advance!

Cut while lifting hard in the gym to try to regain some lost muscle mass.

14% ish but with almost no developed muscle.

And right now you aren't going to look "shredded" or "athletic" by losing any more weight, you are going to look like a famine victim.

You really need to start a proven lifting program for beginners like Stronglifts and follow it to the letter for 4-6 months. Adding 10-12 pounds of muscle won't make you look "bulky". It is however what will make you look "athletic".

Thanks mate! 14 percent is better than I expected! Having been a hypertense 100kgs in March 2019, even 'famine victim' makes me happy.

I'm completely onboard with your workout advice about gaining muscle. Gyms around me are expected to open in September, so I will be making a regime switch as soon as that happens.

Started to workout in the beginning of the year with bodyweight exercises only, trying to cut some belly fat and gain some muscles. After 3 months I went on calorie maintenance for a month, while still doing bodyweight exercises. Last month I switched to StrongLifts 5x5 on a slight calorie surplus. How do you rate my bf%? I struggle to pinch a caliper almost everywhere except the waist, where I litereally can grab the fat in my hands. Should I stay at calorie surplus and do routine like AllPro's /Fierce 5, or just go deficit to lost belly fat with said routines? I know building muscles is a long term process, so my goal is to weigh 85kg with reasonably low bf% at the end of next year.

13-14% but you really need more muscle on your frame at this point.

There is no general ideal bodyweight. Your weight is dependent on many factors including your muscle mass and bodyfat.

The ideal weight for you is dependent on your goals. At your height you could weigh the same as you do now and be very muscular and relatively lean. Or you could have low muscle mass and be chubby or anything in between and all at the same "bodyweight".

What would be helpful is if you could post a picture of yourself (as it says in the initial post of this thread) and we can tell you roughly what your bodyfat is. Then you can decide what to do from there to reach a look that you like

As per the very first post on this thread's instructions...

Best results will include full body pictures, in a relaxed pose, taken from front, side, and back.

    Before and after

One year off and on progress. Took the first picture @ 225, almost immediately hurt my back again and was out for two-four months riding straight into the holidays and then 'Rona.... been a rough ride. I was about 230 in May and my gym opened back up and i got motivated. Eating ~1700 daily. Two to five times a week in the gym doing mostly lifting and some LISS cardio depending on work schedule. Woke up at 217. My 1RM on bench in January was ~185 and I'm finally back to where I was in 2013 @ ~240 1RM.

Wild ride. Here's now and one year ago.

You're pretty generous, he lacks muscle but still has a lot of fat, I'd still say he's over 20%.
All it takes is consistency, effort, proper nutrition, good programming, and TIME.

Lightbulb Males for online interviews - 50$ incentive provided!

    Hi everyone,
Sorry for posting something unrelated to current discussion, but I could really use your help!

I am a PhD candidate at Western Sydney University. For my PhD project, I am developing a new body image questionnaire. For this purpose I am conducting online interviews via Zoom teleconferencing with males who currently have OR previously had either:
    a) eating/body image concerns;
    b) disordered eating;
    OR
    c) eating disorder or muscle dysmorphia diagnosis

The topic of the interview is body image and participants will be asked questions about experience with their own body, thoughts, emotions, and beliefs about one's weight and shape. During the interview, participants do not have to use the Zoom video. The interview will last no more than one hour and you will be reimbursed with $50 AUD giftcard.

This study has been approved by the University's ethics committee board. If you are under the age of 18, you will be given a parental information sheet and parental informed consent (in addition to participant information sheet and participant informed consent) which must be signed on-screen before participation.

If you find yourself in the participant description and are interested in helping me out with research, contact me on my email address:19957210(at)student.westernsydney.edu.au. If you have any questions or doubts, also don't hesitate to contact me.

    Thank you in advance!

You are the definition of "Skinny-fat" at the moment and should focus more on adding muscle than losing the fat.

Since you are posing and flexing in both pictures it will make you look leaner than you really are so basically that leads to a wide range of guessing.

Hard to say as photos for estimates should be in a relaxed state, not "flexing and sucking it in.

Would be easier to estimate with a frontal shot of you facing the camera instead of at angles.
