Why do I need a dozen 10 lb plates? OHP and low celling in my basement gym.

Yes sir. Same here. I have a spot marked where to stand to go between the rafters so I don't have to look up every time.
Still in the architect phase, but new house will have 9 foot deep basement.

3x retail is too high. I’m seeing more ads like this, asking 350. Looks like 190# plus bar and dumbbell handles. Most are asking 1.40- 1.50 per pound. Issue is if people are going to keep their equipment and home gyms or try to unload them when gyms are fully open.

These people buying new equipment and marking it up are dirtbags IMO.
What stuff I’ve sold this last year has been at the high end of fair prices before CoVid.
The few York plates or DB’s were all in the $1 - $1.5/lb range.
Now OK for Sig line to be a novel

We've had this discussion ad nauseam here so I won't get too far into it again, but buying an item for one price and selling it at a higher price is the entire basis of the US economy (and any other free market economy). The markups at any given retailer on many items is far, far higher than that of any of these guys buying equipment at Dick's and reselling it. If we're talking about needs (lifesaving medication, food, water, etc.) then ethics comes into play, but for wants (ALL gym equipment) then I have no issue. No one is forced to pay any given price on gym equipment. Pay it, wait or simply be more proactive when it comes to shopping for equipment. While deals are far less plentiful on used equipment now, then can still be had if you keep checking the various marketplaces and are ready and willing to travel. That's always been the best way to score deals anyway even long before COVID.

I'm excited I got these last Friday off Ebay to further my Jack Lalanne plate collection. I actually bought 95lbs, but the other 2 shipments haven't arrived yet. Funny the 25lb bumper plates arrived in only a few days and all 3 parcels were dropped at the post office at the same time.

I just painted and clear coated the pair of 25's tonight and I'll do the rest in silver once they arrive. I did scrub the rubber bumper (ring portion) so it looked like new (ZERO cracks!), but sadly, the 3m painters tape I used to mask off the plates practically welded itself to the rubber material.

Took like 25 minutes to mask up both plates, and 90 minutes to pick all the painters tape off in half an inch sections. UGH! Not to mention the rubber ring now has discolored lines from each individual 1" section of tape I used when masking the plates. I might scrub the rubber again once the paint dries so everything looks uniform. I still have to paint the letters/numbers black match the other silver Lalanne plates I painted years back.

They'll be fine once I put them in use. I'm happy I scored them.

Yes, some people have really taken it to another level, I've seen some real rubbish equipment fetch stupid prices.

I have sold off a couple of Hammer Strength machines, Olympic bars and plates, I placed them on FB marketplace with a guide price and asked anyone interested to make a bid, I was very fortunate and sold them all at a price that was acceptable to both parties, more than I'd expected but given the market at that time I think the buyers also got a good deal.

Surprisingly when I approached Panatta for a price on new equipment I was very pleasantly surprised, last summer, due to the Global Pandemic they were offering a significant discount, on the retail price, over 50% off, crazily the differential between the cost of my old Hammer machines and the new Panatta units was vanishingly small, it's been a very strange 12 months.

An auto dealer selling a $2K auction vehicle for $10K after doing $500 worth of work is adding value, but the selling price is grossly disproportionate to the markup. All of this is acceptable to the same people complaining about the guys doing it with gym equipment though. It boggles the mind. (p.s. I deal in used gym equipment, but I have never purchased any of it new to resell. Moreover, I have had a hard time finding things I want at a good price just like everyone else. I just have no issue with others doing it because supply and demand is the entire basis of any free market economy and I'm an adult that understands the difference between want and need.)

They are silver to match my other restored Lalanne plates. The letters will be painted black. When Jack Lalanne plates were new, you could get them either black with silver letters or silver with black letters and the first of those plates I restored were silver from the factory.

I already have 250lbs of restored Weider plates that are black, so I thought some contrast would look better in my home gym. I wish I had the time to paint the letters before I clear coated these plates, but I got impatient since weather is yucky (we only had a few sunny days this week).

I already have 250lbs of restored Weider plates that are black, so I thought some contrast would look better in my home gym. I wish I had the time to paint the letters before I clear coated these plates, but I got impatient since weather is yucky (we only had a few sunny days this week).

I used a spray can of clear gloss from Rustoleum to clear these plates. I've used it in the past on bare beadblasted aluminum with excellent results, so I guess I'll find out how it holds up for this application.

Generally, they're worth no more than any other generic plate. There are exceptions though. For example, the old deep dish standard Weiders can fetch as much as $3/lb on eBay.

some of the old Weider plates are actually machined. my set purchased from Sams Club in the early 90s had machined surfaces and drilled centers up to the 20kg plates. The 20kg plates were not machined, however still good tolerances. I love them.

Just got an email from Rogue that my Safety Squat Bar, Multi Grip Bar, V2 Gun Rack, and HG 2.0 collars are finally preparing to ship. I ordered the stuff on March 8th. Probably will still be another two weeks before I finally have them in my hands.

Bought New Precor Flat Bench (DBR0101)

Always loved Precor, I was always impressed with Precor/Icarian when I frequented commercial gyms in the 90's and 2000's.

I bought their flat bench because it had the lowest height I could find, 15 inches but it actually measures 14 1/2" high. It a little narrow at 9 1/2" wide, my adjustable is 9 1/2" wide so I'm use to it, plus I get a good ROM.

Had plenty of colors to pick from, both frame and upholstery but went with black frame, black upholstery to match my adjustable bench. It took 3 weeks to get.

Thanks, great fit and finish. Also, it's a tank but easy to move at 64 lbs., my adjustable bench is noticeably heavier at 100 lbs. Most Precor is usually 4"x2" and 11 gauge.

    McBrody,

That's an awesome flat bench you got there (I remember when you were on the hunt looking at a few of them), never can go wrong with a shorter bench for the ultimate in leg drive, although for me anyway a 9 1/2" width pad would be a balancing act benching on because I'm broader framed...but again the shorter profile would be excellent planted for power.

Good memory DVO. Like I mentioned my adjustable bench is also 9 1/2" wide so I've done hundreds of sets of DB benches over the past 7 years, I've it got down to a science. I got a 48" chest so I'm not narrow by any means but ideally I'd prefer an 11" wide bench but the height is much more important to me.

Awesome sounds like you got it down pat and congrats, how much did the Precor flat bench total out too, or in what ball park if you don't mind me asking?
