I purchased up my first urethane plates this week. These things feel indestructible and are very accurate (9 lbs., 15.4oz, & 10 lbs., 0.4 oz).

Bulk, take a look at the backs of those plates and see if they say "M series" around the center holes. They look to me like they've been painted.

If its single, pre silly knurl, 28 mm shaft, it's most likely a late 70's, early 80's bar. In my experiences, they're very hard to come by. The one that I've used had really smooth spin and 0 play in the sleeves. If you lift with it, please share your thoughts!!

The two I have are single knurl (weightlifting distance between them), 28mm shaft, spin well and came with a bunch of unbranded Ivankos so late 70s early 80s makes sense to me. I've only lifted with one of them a couple times as I have a bunch of other bars but it felt like it had a lot of whip on back squats, maybe because of the smaller diameter. The knurling feels great but I'm not sure what the finish is if there is any at this point.

Rustoleum is exactly what I thought it was, but you're right, it is hard to tell from a pic!

It doesn't necessarily matter a ton whether the plates are M series or not, but M series is a little nicer, and seems to be less common in unbranded plates. I want to say that they started machining surfaces toward the end of the "unbranded era", so it could tell you a little more about how old they are. Dumb.bell probably knows a lot more about them if you're really dying to know more.

Been gone for a little bit picked up alot that I kept, but then sold off as it decided to remove from my home gym, these are two awesome pieces I got and decided to keep. A freemotion cable cross in great condition that I picked up a couple days ago, and an icarian FI bench that I fulley refinished(took paint off and repainted, new upholstery, new decal, some new bolts, new rubber grip).

Nice pick up, particularly the Free Motion unit, curious about the single stack configuration, i'd be interested to know what you think after using it for a while.

I'll probably purchase one more 10 lb. pair to go with my comp bumpers. It's really a nice looking plate. I know 10 lb. bumpers aren't for everyone.. I mainly use 10s for snatch warmups and my wife likes using them to start at the correct height for her deadlift warmups.

Great pick up, I like urethane, expensive, but i think they're worth the cost.

Definitely go raw SS it feels awesome in the hand. I wished all my bars could be raw... but being in a garage gym would rust the crap out of them.

Is there any similar SS bars in the UK?

Nothing like that beautiful AB bar, Rogue Europe has just started selling the Ohio SS bar, Ivanco's bars are available, but they're expensive when compared to US prices, even if you take shipping into account. However SS bars are becoming ever more popular, so I guess things should improve.

I will have to "restore the bar". Any suggestions on how to do so? I used simply green on my york bar, which too alot of the rust off. Should I try to keep the black color on as much as possible or make it my mission to take the rust off regardless of how much bar coloring comes off?

I've used CLR and vinegar with a good amount of success, but I've never really ever had to deal with a real rust bucket, full restore scenario either. I prefer the vinegar, but sometimes the CLR works better.

Jeesus, the black on your bar is "bluing" and you better not take it off. That's how the bars came from the factory.

I'll make the sleeves move, clean up the end caps, and do moderate cleaning, as that's where all the rust is and it's overtaken the bluing of the bar. the shaft itself will just be cleaned with soap.

You've got hex screws on the donuts and inner collars. Those are clues. The donuts screw onto the bar. You want to use WD-40 to unfreeze the screws and donuts. If the sleeves don't come off, report back and we can help you figure out how to get them off. Post pics in the York thread and don't mess up that bar.

You do realize I'm talking about the cleaning up the ivanko bar? I already cleaned up the York bar. And posted them in the York thread already I believe.

I just got a call from UPS saying that a pallet with 485lbs of rolled rubber flooring will be delivered today. Pictures will have to wait until I recover from moving all the equipment out of the gym, installing floor, putting gym back together. Moving the equipment twice is a workout for this old man!

Thanks! I wish all Rogue's urethane bumpers had that black/grey color scheme. Looks very clean. The higher weights are standard colors (green/yellow/blue/red) with black letters. They're just not as attractive, IMO. I still may pick them up one day..

This. I moved out the stall mats and put down rolled rubber flooring last year and it's a big improvement in looks and function. Wish I would have done it from the start!

Congratulations. Be careful and don't injure yourself. Looking forward to pics. Rolled rubber flooring is really the best thing for a permanent home gym.

aweesome score. I don't think black oxide was an option back then so I'm guessing its bare steel that developed into a nice "patina."

FWIW, the only time I've seen that bar, it was bundled with unbranded Ivankos. Probably not from the same set but same year/generation. Do you have any other pics of the condition? fyi, i believe snap ring kits and endocarps are available at iron company.

UPS delivered the new Regupol rubber flooring about noon and fortunately the driver helped me get it up to the garage. Eight hours or so later there's 240sf of flooring down and ready for equipment. It's finished except for transition trim pieces for two doorways. The walls are a light gray and the floor is black with gray flecks.

UPS delivered the new Regupol rubber flooring about noon and fortunately the driver helped me get it up to the garage. Eight hours or so later there's 240sf of flooring down and ready for equipment. It's finished except for transition trim pieces for two doorways. The walls are a light gray and the floor is black with gray flecks.

Wow, looks great. I put that down in my previous weight room. For those that have this in your gyms, whats your cleaning process? Damp mop, sweeper?
