Awesome! I'm still holding out hope to find another some day, 5435 is still my favorite bench of all time. The pads on that one do not look original, the hinge is more exposed and the front pad is more squared on the edges. Still awesome that you found one, I have seen a couple on eBay recently just too steep for my liking, the search will continue.

Thanks UrbanLifter. You confirmed my suspicions about the pads. They are in good enough shape and this bench had been so rare at realistic prices in this area that I had to get it despite the non original pads.

Maybe I'll be very bored one day and do a full restoration with original pads, but I'll just keep it as is for now. I may end up ordering cybex decals if the price is right.

Decals were pretty cheap for me, definitely worth it if you repaint. Pads wouldn't be bad either, I'm just jealous you have the frame!

Not sure if I want to bother repainting as a good 10 minutes of cleaning, tightening of bolts/screws, and some wd-40 has it looking pretty good.

I thought I was done before this, but maybe now I'm truly done. Or not, as I still want a Mech6 monolift, but I might be done after that.

I don't know about $200 not being a great deal, I would have jumped on it, seems in good shape and is a great bench! Good pick up

I got these attachments yesterday -

    MAG Wide Grip
    Mag Medium Underhand
    Troy Supra Cable Curl
    Troy Supra Cable Tricep

They came in part way into my workout, so I used the medium MAG for some rows. I dont know if it was eagerness to use it or whatever, but I did notice a better activation of the back muscles and a bit more soreness this morning. Im gonna have to give it a couple more tries before conclude. But from what I felt from it, everything Ive read about these attachments may be true. And if thats what I end up thinking, then I have to go back and buy all the rest. Great!

I didnt get a chance to use the Troy pieces at all because they come with a bit of oil on them, and didnt want to take the time to clean them at the moment. I did use the Bicep Blaster though, and it did what its supposed to, it minimizes excess movement and really pumps the hell out of your biceps. I had to reduce the weight quite a bit, but I think its still better over all than without one. Definitely glad I got it.

I haven't purchased anything for awhile, but York bars don't come up often around here so I had to go after this one. It matches my current York bar (which is my favorite bar). The big difference is the knurling on the newest bar is very light. Not sure if it's just been worn down or if it was produced that way. Might make it a decent pressing bar though. I need to get it cleaned up once Spring hits. Bar on the bottom is the one I just picked up:

Until I get it cleaned up it will take up residence on the gun rack:

In the second picture you can just barely make out the writing on the inner sleeve. I had to really look up close to be able to see it. It'll look better once I clean it up. That makes it from the 80's/90's correct? Pretty sure it has roll pins also, but I'll have to double check when I get home.

This place sells some classic adjustable benches at decent prices. That includes the Cybex 5435 bench.

Yes, we refer to it as an 80's bar, but it could have been manufactured in the late 70's. The finish will clue you in on whether it was a late 80's to 90's bar. Remember that York changed the metal for its bars around that time and they stopped bluing their bars.

Yea, maybe their prices aren't so great, but these companies that sell used equipment are useful when you get tired of checking Craig's list, and are just not coming across the item your looking for.

PFC used to carry these, they shipped me one for $350. Granted it was missing a bolt and wasn't beautiful, but they eventually made it right.

Just used the bar this morning. The spin is not that great. Did not time it, but approximately spins for 7 to 8 secs on J-hooks without any weights.

May be the inside of the sleeves need a through cleaning and re greasing . Beyond that the grip is pretty comfortable and passive center knurl is really good on squats. Did warm up sets for squats. The weights slide real nice and smooth. I used bumpers.

Even though I keep saying I won't, I Stopped into pias today and rummaged thru some bins of small plates, mostly standards. Found these Ivanko 1 1/4s. I don't even lift the like new Ivanko plates I recently bought since I now have Yorks. But with the 1 1/4 Ivanko collars I just picked up I thought these might come in handy.

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I think I will do that. One of my York 10# pairs was sand blasted so I was thinking of painting them. Trying to get more precise with my program after reading The Barbell Prescription, for the over 40 crowd.

Anyone here try using one of those donnie Thompson bowties? Did it actually help or do anything? I just ordered one with an EliteFTS SS Yoke bar and deadlift wedge.

Spin tests are typically done with plates on them. You are not going to get massive spin times on an empty sleeve, slap a 45lb plate on there with a collar and give it a decent turn to see what happens. My OB86b got less than 30 seconds on the spin (45lb plate), the REP barbell went for over 2 & 1/2 minutes before stopping (one test close to 3min).

Edit: I tried taking one of the sleeves off and it was a no go, I wanted to look at the inside but I couldn't get it off. I put a few drops of 3&1 oil down each sleeve of the barbell that had a little less spin, seemed to be better the next day when I tested. FWIW

How's the book. I've been meaning to buy it since I've trained with Jonathan Sullivan (he has a SS gym not too far from me). Great guy, really knows his stuff.

    Looks sweet. Nice pickup!

What is this "done" you speak of? Half the forum is looking to buy a bigger home or put on an addition for gym space. A few are probably looking to sell children to free up another room.

I've always wondered that. I'm not an Oly lifter but at what point do you just need something that makes a couple easy, smooth revolutions? Not an area of knowledge at all for me but I don't see any tangible benefit between a bar that spins for 30 seconds or one that spins for 5 hours.

This question is open to all responses since, like I said, I don't Oly lift and really have no need for good spin on anything.

Exactly - a sleeve on my favorite bar stopped spinning one day and I never bothered to try to figure out why and I never noticed it lifting. A few months later, I realized it was spinning again - not sure how long it had been stuck.
