Homeowners with a pool, worth it?

Been looking to purchase a home. Not really looking for a pool but if it's a house I like and it has a pool then I might consider it. I don't know the upkeep costs, time, and potential problems? Worth it or headache??

It's always worth it. If you force yourself to swim hard for 45 minutes to 1 hour every day, you will look like a greek god.

Swimming is the best exercise for the human body. Swimming puts no impact on your joints, and provides high resistance for your muscles in a safe environment. It also uses all kinds of muscles that you wouldn't normally target.

It is the best way to stay in shape while minimizing wear and tear and preserving the health of your body.

With modern technology to clean pools, it's not even a big deal.

Costs a lot depending on the size, if its heated etc. You can look up the rate for water per 1k gallons in your area too.

Great if you want to maintain an active social life as an adult. I feel like most pool people are swingers though.... random though.

You can say that about any seasonal purchase though. Snow gear, motorcycles in cold climates, rifles outside of hunting season.

Just be rich so you dont have to worry about small purchases like swimming pools.

I can confirm, I am pool.

Moved with the gf last year in a house with an above ground pool. I really enjoy learning everything about it, the systems, how to start, the maintenance and all. Of course you use it a couple of times in the beginning of summer and you won't use it as much after but maintenance is low cost and it just takes an hour every week or so in maintenance, not really a hustle for me.

Seriously. Do not do it. If you are 300k a year bro ok. Worked on pools for 10 years. I can already hear the trade jokes coming. Chlorine alone is about a grand a year.

It's great for the first few years when everyone uses it.

Then nobody does, except you when you maintain it. I don't have a pool anymore, coincidentally I swim just as much as the last 2 years I had one.

occassionally see outdoor pools in homes in and around London, always make me laugh. There are literally entire YEARS when you couldn't use it for a single day. Don't think we got over 80 last year once..

    Only worth it if

    - You have kids
    - You have a wife/gf
    - You throw pool parties
    - You can afford maintenance

That's cause you live in Florida.

If you live in Canada, you only get to use it maybe 7-8 months out of the year if youre lucky. Unless you go indoors...

Its a pain in the ass to always keep it up. alot of money for little time spent in it. if you can afford someone to come by every week and maintain it then no big deal but if you are doing it yourself then it sucks.

It is the best way to stay in shape while minimizing wear and tear and preserving the health of your body.

With modern technology to clean pools, it's not even a big deal.
Bicyclists and swimmers have lower bone density than runners, which does nothing to fight the risk of osteoporosis.

Can't win, either have potential density issues or you end up needing to have your knees replaced.

    Damned if you do...

I grew up with an in ground pool so all my memories as a kid are around the pool. I have been toying with the idea but i'm not sure. Summers are short in the Northeast.
