    The Official Body Masters Thread

I'm a big fan of Body Masters equipment. Their products were well thought out and designed. Top quality manufacturing and over built. Too bad they are not around anymore. Starting this thread for owners of these products to show off what they have and to hopefully answer any questions.

To start is a picture of an adjustable bench I recently picked up. I also have a standing preacher, leg ext, and leg curl that I will post pictures of shortly.

i had a bodymasters incline bench but since i got a 0-90 lumbar bodymasters from ndmike, which combined the best of their incline bench and lumbar incline bench, i didn't see a need to keep both so i sold it to him .

i also had their double sided preacher curl bench which i sold (just too oversized for me. i'm just average sized) and i recently got their seated version, i haven't tried it yet but i will and may keep it. i enjoy my promaxima preacher bench alot though its just about perfect .

and yes the incline bench was pretty oversized to me as well lol. i felt puny on it

Loved their 45 degree leg press, leg extension, and dip machine circa early 1990s. Mike Quinn's Golds Gym in West Palm had what I recall as their full line.

I have the B110 flat bench and the B112A utility stool.

Does anyone know where to get the rubber feet for them? Full Circle doesn't carry them.

Body masters is one of my favorite equipment manufacturers. Seems like they paid lots of attention to actually creating gear that has optimum feel and they made some unique pieces. I am jealous of you guys with BM benches, I need a 2nd bench and have been looking for a used commercial one to replace my BS second bench. My legend stays out in the rack platform area and my 2nd general gym use bench sucks, a BM would be the ideal find, especially love the support angles.

    My 3 B! Pieces:
Dip machine, is this the early 90's one you refered to? I am generally not a dip machine fan but it adjusts its multi grip position enough to really let you dial in focus between chest and tris so it gets some use
Seated chest supported row: already have a similar precor so didn't think I wanted another. The pre if looks so much better built also, but the feel oF the BM is noticibly better and the grip / seating angles work better also so I grabbed it
Overhead tricep with the perfect back support, foot bar assist, and of coarse BM buttery smooth belt drive, this is probably my favorite single use piece of equipment I own. It finds its way into almost every arm workout!
A big fan of BM amd always on the lookout for there equipment, good thread!

I'm not sure. It might be. The only place I ever used it was that gym so it's been >20 years. I'm generally not a fan of them either but remember that one being so smooth, it hit muscles just right, and I was able to emphasize either chest or tris if I wanted or keep it more neutral.

All the BM selectorized equipment I have seen is belt drive Wich I find super smooth. I think belt drives are easier to adjust also. The Body masters use less common polymide belting, it's about 3 times as much as regular steel reinforced belt. At $9. Per foot it can be close to $100 to replace on a machine I just replaced one with the more common steel belted type, it's a little thicker but worked fine, $3 per foot it's much more reasonable.
The dip piece has regular nuetral grip and also wider horizontal grips. The grips adjust in and out almost a foot. The nuetral grip hit tris more the horizontal grips chest more. The closer to adjusted makes the movement more up and down and works triceps, farther out hits chest. Between grip adjustment and nuetral or horizontal you can get two very different movements.

Here's a picture of the 0-90 next to a Prostar Sports 0-90 bench.

    and another

i'm using the prostar more right now because the height suits the safeties a tad better for flat bench, and the bench pad is wider.

really though, i just like the lines and the aesthetics of the BM vs the PS

question for the Body Masters B-117 bench owners. The hinge on that bench seems like it doesnt have super tight gaps. Is there any or much side to side play with the back pad when the bench is inclined?

Thanks for any owners who can reply.

I have this bench. There's no play in the front hinge portion or the front pad when its inclined. It kinda looks like it would by looking at it but its solid.

I also have a question also for someone with this bench. The bench that I bought didn't come with wheels. I see the holes where they go but can't figure out how they would attach....

    Thanks

My biggest gym regret so far was selling a body masters tricep dip as I didn't have room for it. Gutted now wish I'd have got rid of something else.

i got a chance to check out this bench yesterday. the back pad was rock solid...no side to side movement. the seat pad, however, did have a little jiggle from side to side. the seat is only connected to one hinge piece and that was allowing that movement. sitting on the seat it was totally solid.

would you say this is normal regarding the seat on the B117?

if you are getting some play out of a hinge, enough to bother you, there are ways to tighten that up.

As you said earlier - if there are gaps between the knuckles you can slip a thin washer in between, look for SAE flat washers, they are thinner than the other flats.

Another thing you can try - might be difficult to find what is needed - find a sleeve that will fit tightly inside the knuckles and then use a smaller diameter bolt through it. Actually, now that I think about it - if you could find a spring pin the right diameter/length - that will take ANY slop out of the hinge. But it will take some muscle to adjust the bench.

Actually, now that I think about it - if you could find a spring pin the right diameter/length - that will take ANY slop out of the hinge. But it will take some muscle to adjust the bench.
each knuckle is connected to a really thick metal piece that goes down to the mainframe, so there would be no way to get a washer in between there...maybe some type of specialty half washer i could get in there then clamp it tight. if i actually bought it i think your second idea would be a better solution.

if im being honest, i could have lived with it but the bench wasnt in the best shape (a little beat up and seat pad doesnt quite match back pad) and the firm price of $250 seemed too high. I think id rather go for a cybex 5435 in good shape that can be shipped to me for $346. 10+ yrs with my ironmaster bench...im so ready for a commercial level bench.

im guessing the play in the seat must be normal on the b-117 because every pic ive seen there are sizeable gaps between hinge pieces. the backpad doesnt move because it connects to the outermost hinges with no spaces to the outside, but the seat connects to the middle hinge and there is play on each side of it.

would you say this is normal regarding the seat on the B117?

Mine has a little play in the bottom seat. Its not noticeable when you when your sitting on it. The one thing I don't like on it the bottom pad doesn't incline up high enough... I find myself sliding down the bench when doing incline work.

I used both benches and my opinion even though I love Body Master equipment I would go with the Cybex 5435 if I had the choice.

Does any one know if Body Master's equipment is being sold in Canada? If so, where? I like their heavy duty benches with the bent back posts behind the J-hook. Been looking for benches built like that. Haven't found BM's website. Odd.

    When did they go bust?

Gym equipment biz...so touch to stay afloat. Only a handful around now. ROGUE, EliteFTS. REP, Hammer Strength...and some Sears brands like YORK.

Don't think any of them make a bench with a sloped post.

Handful? You need to educate yourself. You only listed one commercial brand and a second that is actually made by someone else.

I have owned or used several pieces of Bodymasters. Only two pieces made the final cut in my home gym.

The first is a PS 500 plate load standing shrug that I bought from a fellow equipment section brah.

The second is a CXP plate load shoulder press. This is independent arm and mimics a dumbbell press. I really like this piece, best of the CXP line.

I don't have pics of the shrug, but here is some CXP pron.

Nice piece. I always liked BodyMasters. Never used this unit but their 45 Leg Press was great and I have fond memories of their seated dip (not that I want the machine but it worked great for me).

I have the seated dip, im not a fan of dip mavines but that one is excellent. I also have there chest supported row, and my favorte the overhead tricep machine. I believe i pisted pics way back in this thread.

I just ordered some Power Lift rack accessories that piwer lift had used at half price. While ordering i saw a Bodymasters 2 station lat pulldiwn and cable column for a steal, so i ordered it. Power lift sekks stuff they take on trade at great prices and there great to deal wth. Hopefully ot comes soon, its a 200 # stack on the column and a 300# on lat pulldown. I have a dual precor lat pulldiwn but i want a single pulley one to add a low row to, the easy way where you mount an additional pulley to the frame and hook an extention to the existing lat cable. Then i can get rid of a huge body solid smith lat low row conbo i have had fir years thats taking up too much room! Shipping was ore then the unit but it cane out very reasonable

I picked this BM decline bench up in August for $25. I have 2 FID benches and the decline sucks on both of them, so this was a fortuitous find.

I know of someone getting rid of some selectorized pieces. Crunch, ab, lower back, tricep press down, preacher, and glute kickback. Few more pieces too. Pm if interested. Also a pancetta lateral
