Besides the fact that it looks straight exorcist....it's legal.
Personally, I think there should be a "minimum range of motion" requirement, but as it stands, it's legal and it's a good lift. Can't fault someone for doing it. For me personally, I plan to compete this year and it's a bit of a bitch. I will be benching with full ROM bc I just can't bend like that. Some of my competitors i'm sure will be smashing my bench if they can bend like that. It limits the ROM to a few inches....Squat and Deadlift

Eh, some people get up in arms when they see girls w/ crazy big arches and super wide grips, but I don't see how that's any different from getting to use use a monolift vs. having to walk out your squat or getting a deadlift bar that has a lot of whip vs. having to deadlift with a stiff bar.
Some federations make more allowances than others because they want their lifters to get the biggest numbers possible. Other feds make fewer allowances because they want to make it harder for the lifter.
Powerlifers can pick the fed they want to join based on the rules they want to comply with (I actually picked based on proximity to my house and who I knew). I could never bench with that wide a grip, would trash my shoulders trying, so I'm perfectly content benching in a federation that limits how wide your grip can be (and also makes you keep your feet on the floor).Last edited by Partyrocking; 04-21-2017 at 08:37 AM.

Nah, must be drinking a preworkout from a brand named PR Breaker in order to be breaking PR's for eternity

I hear your point, and I'm not one to get up in arms over this ****, but I don't agree that it's no different from a monolift or bar with flex. The back arch greatly reduces the ROM. A monolift may make set up easier, but once the squat starts it's the same game, and the lifter has to break parallel at the knees. It doesn't actually make the lift any easier, just the set up which you could argue in turn makes the lift easier, but not to the same extent as limiting ROM. As far as a bar with flex vs stiff bar, everyone has the option in those scenarios. Not everyone has the option to arch their back like that on a bench.
In any case, powerlifting is just as much about technique as it is strength, so it's all fair game if the rules allow for it. I would just like to see it more about raw strength vs who can manipulate their body enough to make the lift easier. Then again, I have been deadlifting sumo, and a lot of people compare that to the arch. But my body is such that my ROM is still very large when I pull sumo. That's why I would suggest a minimum ROM to be implemented. But that doesn't exist, so it is what it is!Squat and Deadlift

Actually just in the process of trying to figure that all out. I know I want to compete raw, natural, so I'm guessing that will limit my choices down. I'm looking to step on the platform closer to the end of year so I can hopefully build up my lifts a little more. Was kind of a spontaneous decision, had never really thought about competing but my lifts are getting good enough that I think i'll do well on a local level. Def nowhere near elite status and probably never will be, but I think I can work towards a 1250 or so total in the 198 class, raw natty. If I could hit 1300 i'd be ecstatic. Any feedback from you experienced guys is more than welcome! I'm new to this whole competing thing. (reps on spread w you btw)

Not sure about how the different feds compare in Canada, but CPU is Canada's IPF affiliate, so they have a raw division, do drug testing, have stricter lifting requirements etc.
There's also CPF and CPL, which both have raw divisions and some drug testing, but I don't know if all of their meets are drug tested or only certain ones. There are a number of Canadian powerlifters in the powerlifting section (usually hanging out in the appreciation thread), so I'd ask them for the low down. I wouldn't be surprised if the answer changes depending on where in Canada you live.
I know in the states people can have vastly different experiences the same federation depending on who organizes the meets in their area. Even things like how far you have to travel can be vastly different. Where I am, there's a USAPL meet w/in an hour of my house pretty much every month, but USAPL lifters in other states have to drive 4+ hours to get to a "close meet."You can't help the hopeless.

I just did my 1st comp in March. It was a great experience. I went with the USAPL, because it's natty and it's one of the more organized feds it seems like. Really, you just need to get your first comp done and out of the way. It's fun, but also don't put a huge pressure on yourself to do great. I competed at the Washington State Championship and I was baffled at how strong some guys are. Here I was thinking I was strong and then boom, guys getting Wilk's scores of like 430-440. But yeah, look into the USAPL.

That info helps a lot, much appreciated. I was looking at CPU actually, but i'll check out the other two you mentioned as well. I'll hop into that section of the forum too. I did get a bit of advice from some folks in that section a couple weeks back and everyone seemed super cool (nice stats btw, very impressive)

Will do, thanks bro. Totally hear you too, I've looked up some records and stats and it's crazy impressive the numbers some of these guys put up. I'm not expecting to be a top contender, but i'm pretty proud of my lifts these days and figured it would be an awesome experience. I'm doing it anyway, so why not compete? I rarely get to train with anyone who takes it as seriously as me, so i'm looking forward to the atmosphere at a meet.

Yeah I was in the warm up area and was hitting like 400 on deadlift during warm up. Then you had guys in the same weight class with me warming up with 500. I'm like **** lol. That was my exact thinking too though. Why not compete and see how it is and see if I really like PL'ing. It was a great experience! Everyone there has the same interests as you which is cool. I'm in the same boat. No one around me takes it as serious as me and sometimes I think why the hell am I doing it lol. Then I realize that it's for me and not anyone else, so who cares.

I need to order and restock on Bangs. Down to 3 cans each of Sour Heads, Cotton Candy and Black Cherry Vanilla. Last 2 mentioned were ok but I will stick to Sour Heads and maybe go back and try some of the older flavors again.

i just wonder if at some point... it's gonna get where the bar moves so little, even less than what i posted, that it would force some kind of rule implementation - probably not though100% 中國人
