Is this the main reason why Asians in America are successful? srs

More than any other ethnicity/race, Asians blame themselves for their own failures, sometimes excessively so.

Didn't do well in school? It's because you didn't study hard enough or you're not smart enough
Didn't get a raise/promotion at work? It's because you didn't work hard enough

Whereas with other cultures, it's always blame someone else.

Bad grades? Must be the teacher
Can't get a job? Must be the Mexicans
Can't get laid? Must be women

Blacks blame whites, conservatives blame liberals, FAs blame social media, women blame men, and it goes round and round.

There are obvious biases against certain people, not doubting that at all.

But the only reason one fails at something is their own fault. "Systemic oppression" isn't the reason someone fails a class lmao

has a lot to do with the culture of coming here to better yourself. 1st generation comes to the US to earn money to save up to either send back home or save up to return to home country and retire.

2nd gen has the work ethic instilled in them from their parents.

Also Asian culture is known for wanting to make their parents proud. So success is a way of paying back their parents, in a sense.

true . but I find now days the really successful and wealthy Asians kids are kind of spoiled and don't really do much . maybe get sent of to another country for college etc but have never really earned much . just got like an apartment and a bmw handed to them since the parents are so wealthy and its Chinese culture to give to their kids apparently

it's called self-responsibility/accountability and it applies to most all 1st generation immigrants. it's nothing to do with asians specifically per se, although its no secret that education is the highest priority in japan, south korea, etc

it drops down as the generations pass and become more westernized. Im 2nd gen and can confirm i know a lot of other asian 2nd gens who failed out of college, etc

Being a wagecel is not successful. Fukin clowns when other say us Asians are the most successful in the country. We don't have a lot of political and cultural power as a group. There are many avenues of improvement that we as a people need to achieve.

Even Asian Americans don't know how garbage the situation is for Asians is in America. There is a lot of complacency. Let me tell you, I don't like how a lot of our people shill for other groups interests over their own.

    No that's just American culture,

Asians are successful because most of them are FoB or 1st/2nd gen immigrants who came here with wealth. Our perceptions of Asians will change after a few generations, the Americanized ones are not like the ones straight from Asia.

I think it's mostly families valuing education over all else. Definitely sets you up for a good entry-level jobs, from there it's all up to you. Still not enough political clout given the wealth of the populace but I think it is definitely changing.

And to OP, the self-blame thing is totally true lol. I've learned to tone it down a notch otherwise it tends to tor**** your confidence as you make mistakes when you learn and grow.

    Asian brah checking in,

Parents came with nothing, we lived in pretty rough areas growing up, they didnt know anything about welfare or food stamps. just worked really hard to put my dad through college. he moved his way up as a software programmer and now is in a solid spot in gov IT. so i don't really believe in systematic oppression, if you have the mentality to stay in the hood then you're gonna be there. we chose to get out.

but i would define success, i mean we hold our own well but like above poster, we don't really have any word in politics and not many high level execs are Asians. as a viet, handful of kids make it, and most of them fall into the nail tech trap.

Are you meaning we worked hard for our "american dream"? I would say yeah.

That's why attribution(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attrib...al_attribution) plays quite a big role in educational sciences.
There is lots of studies showing that pupils, who prefer internal attribution do better in general.

No the main reason is very competitive parents.
That said, the lives of Asians can be hell, feeling very little love from parents, due to this.
Still happy to have western parents.

Agreed, a minority of people came with that type of wealth. A LOT of Southeast asians are looking for an escape from their country. IE Laos, viet, cambo, etc.

yes but everything has a cost

all that time in books and they wind up being anti social and not knowing how to talk to girls, go for social jobs, lift, etc.

so all those asians spend buckets of $ on scam artists with their pua garbage. Best is to somehow be best of both worolds. Sadly, asian parents won't teach you how to talk to girls or be socially cool.

There is flaws with our mentality of only valuing certain career paths as the only viable path to succeed as it produces a lot of Asian guys who are wagecels and providers who are just a cog in the machine. Needs improvement.

Asians all follow this simple path to success.

    -Save money
    -Go to college
    -Major in stem/medical/accounting/etc
    -Profit

It's really not that hard to be successful in America...Honestly, if your family has been in the US for multiple generations and you're still poor, you should probably be sterilized.

but i would define success, i mean we hold our own well but like above poster, we don't really have any word in politics and not many high level execs are Asians. as a viet, handful of kids make it, and most of them fall into the nail tech trap.

Are you meaning we worked hard for our "american dream"? I would say yeah.
i agree with most of what you said except for not believing in systemic oppression. there's a difference between being 1st generation and moving into the hood compared to having multiple generations being raised in the hood.

similar to you, my parents came with nothing and worked hard to raise me to overcome barriers and put me in a position to succeed.

i think its much more difficult if you've seen generation after generation remain in the same spot and it gives you a sense of hopelessness that you'll never get out. unfortunately those that do, are few and far between.

They are still stuck in the mentality we white guys were post-WW2 (talking about Europe, where we were dirt poor after WW2 and parents told kids to go for the safe professions).
They haven't learned to kick back and focus more on creativity, doing what you really want to do in life.

Not saying that China though isn't benefiting enormously from all these smart STEM workers.
But are all these people happy? That is the question.

This, I rebelled against my parents throughout my childhood to not be another STEM azn kid whom my parents compared me to their friend's kids. I knew I could do something else and still make it, now all those other kids dropped out of college and do da nail

Our older generations kinda messed us. It's great that they pushed education onto us but we got left behind in everything else. That's all we're known for, being book smart and now, being book smart isn't even considered a good thing any more, people want more than that and a lot of Asian parents don't push their children in other direction. Once the Asians got into all of these 6 figure jobs; doctors, lawyers and engineers, they should have pushed some of their children into other fields, branched their influence.

Ask an Asian kid what they want to be in the future, guarantee more than 75% will say doctor, engineer or lawyer. Great fields but no way to really up your class.
Then again, the really funny thing is you read my signature, now I'm home in Bel Air, ayyyy.

it's no different for my parents living in far worse conditions without government help IN vietnam for generations and generations. i, for some reason, don't have sympathy for people who WANT to live in the hood and complain about not making it.

You are stereotyping a bit here. I know plenty of second generation asian surgeons, radiologist, internal medicine docs that can hold their own in social settings. The days of the nerdy asian guy are fast fading.

exceptions yes but you can't argue that most asians are not outgoing and very social with women. at least those with immigrant parents.

Imo I don't see that as success if we are not the number one people in those fields. Asians should use their hard working mentality to infiltrate aspects of American society to influence their politics and culture to bring their in group higher. Yes like the Jews. We need to compete against other groups and take their resources.

yeah idk brah, maybe Asians that have eastern cultures wired in their brains before they come to America, then yeah I would agree since my cousins are like that.

But asians that grew up in western culture, are far different lol.

What generation are you talking about? Older generation, yes I agree with you. If you are talking about the new generation of asians Id say they do just fine.
Now do they go to Hakkasan and walk in like a pimp and have women falling over them? No, but thats not their scene. Most asian men in the 24-40 range that I know do more than fine with women.
