Seems like that is the case for most of us in this thread, although that's not a bad thing to have a lot going for us all.

I went shopping all over the place after Christmas before I returned to Morgantown for my second semester, and I bought very little. I have never been great at saving, but it just seemed like nothing caught my eye enough to justify spending it on new clothes over something else.

That being said, I guess that also shows how expansive my wardrobe has become, which I'm pretty happy with.

Any of you gents try out Sprezzabox yet?

I was given a referral code to get a box for only $8. I think I will keep going with the service - $28 a month for some very high quality accessories and accent pieces? Not bad, not bad. Only downside is it seems there's a tie in EVERY month's box, and I already have loads of ties.

No pics but here's a link to full spoilers of the box I got:

Got an interview on Tuesday and there is a Macy's in the area I'm going to hit afterwards. Any recommendations for a good peacoat from there? Or just recommendations on what I should look for in general? Never owned one.

My peacoat is a Tommy Hilfiger one from Macy's that I got on sale a couple years ago. I recommend just looking at the sale racks. When I was there looking at coats it was an unbelievable mess in that section but there was a hell of a lot there to look at. You're bound to find one or two you like at a good price.

One brand that I don't hear talked about enough is GH Bass. GREAT value stuff in that store. Historically, they are known for creating some of the first or most popular penny loafers (weejuns). Now they are pretty much throw-away shoes, but great value clothes. They are stylish and wearable at a low low price and always on discount. I've got a sick Barbour style coat from there and have had multiple pairs of casual loafers. One note, their items seem to come and go every season, so if you see something you like you better get it now, because the only thing that has been a consistent option is the Weejuns (but not in quality).

Of the three i have i really like a kenneth cole one that i wear quite often, its navy and has a nice navy liner inside. i have a grey/black american rag coat that my mom got for me im actually wearing it today, its pretty comfortable but the fit of the kenneth cole coat is a little better, it has a nice taper that compliments the physique of most guys who lift. Just try some on and see what works for you my man.

Thanks man! What about as far as color? I know you mentioned navy but I was thinking either charcoal or black? Opinions on those?

I did, wore them once and decided I am just not feeling chukkas that much right now. I wasn't wearing my Alden chukkas that much and thought an EG would change my mind but no luck. I think I would rather fill the plain toe suede boot with a chelsea or jodh.

Edit: That's ironic, Boner just sent me this link so now the chelsea void is filled. Hopefully will be here in a few weeks.

Is this a good fit? I went ahead and got it. It is a 42R. They didn't have a 42S or a 40R; however, if it's bad I can return it and order one online possibly. Thanks brahs!

Edit: I wear a 42R in suit jackets

Compare this to ManOutfitters.com, founded but he guys who created TFM, who have a top tier product line, while targeting what I imagine to be the same demographic (18-25 year olds, but MO does not supply female products).
It was gifts for the females (mom, girlfriend and sister-in-law), but yeah I tend to agree about CCPrep. MO has done a much better job although they tend to skew a little more outdoorsy. Also, I love CCP because I can get 20% off name brands with your code. TBH, wouldn't buy there nearly as much without that.

Got a question for you guys. I have been meaning to add the Vibram half sole and heel to my 1000 Miles boots for a while now. I bought them a few months ago and kept putting it off. I'm leaving to go to DC for a week on Saturday and wanted to put them on before the trip to help protect the soles and for added traction. I've almost slipped a couple times in them.

Anyway I was looking at putting them on tonight before the trip and apparently I'm fukin retarded and tend to walk on the outside of my feet a bit. Due to this, both the original sole and heel are a bit oddly worn. Will this fuk up the gluing of the half sole/heel or will I be good? Am I fuked with these boots and going to have to just wear them out and buy new ones eventually (which I'll be sure to add the sole/heel before wearing)?

I've worn these boots almost non-stop since getting them several months ago and they've seen a lot of wear. Hopefully some of you have experience with this, if they will be fine then I'll put the soles/heels on tomorrow.

Hard to tell in the pics. It's not too terrible but it's definitely noticeable when you have them in your hand.

    Thanks

I wouldn't. Kids are already going to be wearing pajamas and flip flops. The key to being well dressed is being just a single peg above the rest of your classmates in terms of formality. If they're wearing sweats and athletic sandals I'd go for jeans, sneakers and a well-fitting t-shirt.

One cool trick I learned was to create a formality ratio of 2:1 for my daily outfits. That is two casual items to one more formal item. For example: if I wanted to wear a button down shirt it means I have to roll the sleeves and wear khaki shorts and sneakers/flip flops. Boat shoes or loafers would put you over the limit in formality points pretty quickly. If you wanna rock your sick Cole haan loafers then you have to wear a t-shirt. You are allowed one item of above average quality.

Those shell Alden LWs are absolutely beautiful. I just bought an AE LW from the seconds sale earlier today and would have gladly cancelled my order -- shame that yours are one size too small.

I agree about loafers but not so much boat shoes - here in the south sperrys are essentially sneakers

HAPPY NEW YEAR, S&P!!! Hope 2017 is starting off on a phenomenal note for you all and only continues on in that same spirit.
On that note, I've been on a decluttering/minimalist track lately, starting in summer 2016, and planning on continuing into 2017. Essentially, it started with trimming my closet big time, and then going on two shopping bans [no clothes/shoes] for 1 month and 2 months respectively. I honestly thought they'd be a lot harder to do than they were. The biggest benefit of not shopping was figuring out what I was actually wearing from my closet...which was about 10% lol. My style is pretty simple and I just keep reaching for the basics. I'm starting a new shopping ban today [orthodox new year], but I realized the few closet gaps I had and was able to fill those after xmas, so I don't want anything currently.
Anyway, the benefit of not buying into trends and instead, investing in classic pieces, is that you don't feel a need to buy new things every season. To keep this post relevant, S&P style is perfect for a minimalist because it really never changes from season to season. Not that I'm a minimalist by any means, but every day is a work in progress and I'm making moves in that direction --->

    This, this, and this.

Simple, classic pieces, well coordinated, hit like a hammer.

On a side note, if you Ameribrahs find yourself in a Walmart for some reason, check out their Faded Glory line of denim and see what you think. Different washes and fits for < $11. a piece...

I bought a stack of them in straight fit, have been trying them out, and I'm pretty impressed.

serious question with no disrespect intended, but: do you guys ever regret spending so much money on clothes? I have like 3 pairs of pants and 4 dress shirts. I wear jeans/chinos maybe 3 times/month, and dress shirts maybe 2x/year. Otherwise I wear well fitting sweat pants and sweatshirts/hoodies. Just never understood the point of having $5,000 worth of shoes, 40 pairs of pants, 60 dress shirts, $3,000 worth of sweaters, etc. I have a $6k mountain bike, and a $2k road bike, and regularly drop money on new parts for those, but thats what I do, I'm a cyclist. And I have never felt guilty because I see it as investing in my health. I just think I would feel guilty if I had all these clothes worth so much money that rarely got used.

I'm also an ICU RN so I wear Navy Blue scrubs to work, and have no business purpose for nice clothes

It simply comes down to what the individual values.

I see people spend $4+ a day on starbucks junk, and I wonder WTF they're thinking, but it's not my place to judge. By the same token, they'd think I was ridiculous for spending 1K+ on a purse, but again, it comes down to what you value. I see my purse as a lifetime investment, and maybe they see their coffee as a daily luxury.

Bottom line is, it's what you can afford. There is no greater dignity than living within your means. Beyond that, people can spend their money on whatever the fck they like.

Yes. I am not the best at saving. Most of the shoes I buy I don't regret and find a way to get into my rotation at least enough to make them worth it, but as for clothes I sometimes get a little carried away. I have quite a few button ups and pairs of pants that I rarely have gotten to wear. I usually wear jeans and a polo to class, but I'll wear chinos and a button up whenever I go out to a bar, which is at most once a week, if that. So I end up having a lot that just sits there. I have an issue buying things that I see on sale, even if I don't necessarily need them.

However, that being said, this may end up helping me out soon. I'm not working anymore since I am a law student, but if I'm hopefully able to get an internship this summer at a law firm, I'll need all these button ups and nice pairs of pants I have if I don't want to do the wash all the time, so I guess my collection isn't the worst thing ever.

for sure. yeah, as a lawyer I could definitely see the need for a line-up of fancy clothes. Work, meetings, lunches, galas, networking, etc. Wouldn't roll into any of those rocking joggers and a hoodie haha
