Viewership for the Superbowl hit an all time high of 115 million in 2015 and interestingly enough, the numbers grew and grew from 2007-2015. 2016 saw a decline in viewership to 111 million and if the 2017 SB is lower than that, then football will become less and less popular. I think that's likely considering ESPN lost a million+ subscribers since the whole Kaepernick ordeal and that should definitely reflect lower SB viewership for the next one. People watch sports to escape reality and when the players make it their effort to bring reality and politics into the games, people tune off. That's why when the economy entered a recession in 2007 the popularity of the game rose. Oh well, these overpaid dumbasses deserve it.

Is this the post you're going to point your community college news outlet to when you're trying to convince them you can create stories inspired by raging *******ry?
CK will be remembered as the dumbest activist of all time that ALSO sucked ass as a quarterback. This is the most overly dramatic, clickbaitey, thoughtvomit of chit for content I've ever seen in sports misc.
What's your deviantjournal page opee? I want to connect with more of your melodramatic unimportant *******ry on a deeper, gayer level.

When you read that espn lost a million subscribers, that doesn't mean that people called their cable company and wanted to remove espn, it means they canceled cable. ESPN makes around $7 per cable subscriber and with cord cutting becoming rampant, they are feeling the effects more than any other cable channel. An oversimplified reason for this is that younger people aren't buying cable. There's no need to pay $100 something per month (cable + internet) when you can stream whatever you want to watch easily.

ESPN just turned into "The View" for men with a bunch of talking heads talking about drama and chit.
What happened to the actual analysis of games? Talking about the match ups? Instead, we get stupid chit shows of old men yelling at each other and talking about things most fans don't actually care about and just think they care about because it's all they talk about."If in my say 80 years on earth I do more help than damage, then I feel complete."

It's definitely a combination of both. I also think NFL ratings are down because of how the NFL, specifically Goodell, are handling both off and on the field issues.
I'd also like to have the ability to watch whatever game I want to rather than being forced to watch whichever team is local to me. I know they have that ability with NFL season ticket or whatever, but I'm not going to pay that kind of money for that. If the games played are two teams I don't care for, I won't watch it. Having the ability to watch the team(s) you enjoy each week, I think would help the NFL IMO.New England Patriot

Pansy rule changes and too many commercials is the reason.
We used to argue over the GOATS in all positions now we argue over if an obvious catch is actually a catch because no one has a clue. God of POF Crew

No it isn't KAP, it is poor qb play and a lack of stars. I watch the ravens and dolphins and I see Flacco and Mike more. The game ends at 40-0. WTF at this chitty game?
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!
