    Consuming too few calories

When trying to lose weight, is it possible to eat too few calories. I feel like I haven't been consuming that many calories and didn't know if that would have a negative effect. Thanks

Every person's body is different and needs different amounts of food and it isn't my place to tell you how many you need.. Look up some general guidelines online, play around with the numbers, and see over time which is working the best or tweak what you need to. But back to your original question, eating too few calories in a deep deficit may not be good for you. You need energy to get throughout the day.. Shoot for a pound a week for weight loss. Any more is getting on the more aggressive side of things.

I can tell when i haven't eaten enough. It takes concentration just to move around and do simple tasks. exercising is harder. then i eat some whole wheat bread and I'm back on top!!!

Did you count the oil you cooked your food was cooked on and condiments? They add quite a lot to the equation.

Use a TDEE calculator and type in your age, height, and weight and it will tell you how many calories to maintain/lose/gain weight.

    Also try using myfitnesspal app.

Of course it is, and from reading posts in this forum almost by the minute, that's the most common mistake many beginners make when attempting to shed some body fat. Many here are under the assumption that they can "speed up" the fat loss process by eating very little. Some effects of essentially starving yourself are low energy levels, trouble sleeping, joint pain, depressed immune system, and loss of muscle mass. Going through the day with one's stomach growling, being constantly very hungry, is no fun either.

Use one of the many calorie calculator formulas found in the sticky threads at the top of this forum, and figure yourself a deficit of no more than about 20% of your maintenance calorie level. That will have you dropping about a pound a week, and if you're also weight training on a good beginner program(and why wouldn't you be?), the majority of your loss will be fat and not muscle.

    Bad idea.

Again, figure a reasonable calorie amount, and then stick to it.

    No brain, no gain.

My problem is I get full from a little amount. I can have a cliff bar and a bottle of water at 8 for breakfast and that keeps me full til I eat lunch at 6, which is a side salad and a bottle of tea. Then I'm good til I get home at 12. Then that's a rice cake with some peanut butter and a bottle of water. And I'm full after every meal. Would it be a bad thing to force myself to eat some middle meals to bump up the calories? Thanks

If that's all the appetite you have, you must be mostly sedentary. You'd probably do well to try to become more active so your appetite will increase.

I should have asked from the git-go; what's your age, height, and weight?

You may want to speak to a doctor about your lack of appetite; something had to change at some point along the way; otherwise, you wouldn't weigh 300 pounds.

    Good luck.
