7-11 Strawberry Banana Shortcake
This is the 'lighter' of the 711 options but one I was looking forward to having never tried their banana or strawberry bases. Here, the base is 'strawberry shortcake' and also banana.
As far as the bases are concerned, the banana was nice. It had a very creamy, natural banana flavor and texture, not airy, not overpowering... really liked it.
But one thing that kind of threw me off right away was something in the base of strawberry shortcake. it was hard to put my finger on, but it kind of reminded me of the flavor I got from having those dental fluoride trays as a kid... and I'd always go for strawberry. It wasn't what I'd call 'bad', I just don't think it mixed well with the banana TBH. Not even artificial, just a kind of interesting 'tinge' to the strawberry which definitely didn't remind of shortcake. Otherwise, the texture/creaminess was similarly good as the banana was.
Now, the mix ins were actually pretty good here. I got a lot of them (so far), and I was very very happy with the size of the shortcake chunks. The strawberries did, of course, get a tad icy as fruit tends to do, but nothing upsetting and - in a way - it did a good job of actually masking a liiiittle bit of that oddness from the strawberry base.
I couldn't help but be reminded a little bit of 1900's STrawberry Dream poofs by the coloring, but of course this was not as good. That being said, honestly I'm not mad at this one at all... it's actually a pretty decent flavor but nice mix-ins and density through where I was able to get.
I do wish they would change whatever it is making the strawberry base kind of 'funky', but it did have a lot going for it. Room for improvement, sure, but definitely something I'd say to try. I might not re-scoop it given I think 711 has better options but it's a solid choice for <$5

Stopped by Von's yesterday, which is really close to S&S but didn't feel like walking over. Came down with a bit of a cold but hopefully I'll be able to stop by tomorrow for a pint. I had been hoping to find the cookie dough core ben & jerry pints at the grocery store or maybe even a particular flavor of the diet options but alas, no luck there. Ended up with some random ones including another ice cream with pretzel's so will be interesting to compare the two. I tried one last night. Tasty chocolate caramel pretzel crunch which comes to a little over 700 calories for the pint so not quite up to premium but the ice cream was decent overall
The base is chocolate and a decent flavor. Not the best chocolate but still decent. The chocolate covered pretzels are the best parts and remain crunchy. I liked those in particular. I've only had about half a serving though. So far the caramel is on the thin side. Did get a little bit in a couple of spots but with the quality and type of caramel used, the flavor doesn't stand up against the chocolate. Maybe that will be different once I get further into the pint but hard to say at this point. Will need to get my tastebuds back once this cold is gone before having more.
The other pretzel one I got uses a vanilla base instead of chocolate, should be interesting to see how it compares.Gym Max: 229/126/305

Couldn't help myself...
7-11 Banana Cream Pie
It's really too bad that the base, swirl, and pie chunks are similar in color because you don't really see what's going on in the pint, but I definitely tasted each element between the base, cream ribbons, and pie crust.
The base here tasted just like in the stawberry/banana pint... nice and rich, smooth, creamy, though I will say that - on it's own - it DID have a very, very slightly artificial banana taste to it. Not offputting at all, and I know they do have real banana in here, but somehow I just got a little bit of a "banana laffy taffy" thought from it. Again, not off-putting, just something I noticed.
What was really interesting to me was that, that cream swirl/ribbon somehow tasted a LITTLE bit like bubblegum to me. It was tasty, really, but I think I expected more of a pure whipped cream/custardy kind of flavor.. this one had a little bite to it, if you wanna call it that. I did enjoy it alot when it paired up with the base, in fact that seemed to take a little bit of that bubblegum flavor away, and it was a nice contrast to the banana.
Finally, I do think the pie crust pieces were the best part. Mine were very big, and quite well-spread. Nice and buttery, flaky, really happy with them.
Given I haven't had another banana cream pie flavor before I can't compare it, but this was very nice. I really liked it a lot.
If I had any complaints, I would say that that cream ribbon/swirl part could probably be better executed with more of a marshmallow or 'real' whipped cream note to it, and perhaps make the pie pieces a little burnt/browned so they contrast with the overall creaminess of the flavor. As is, it's REALLY a mellow banana cream pie... which is nice, but having a sharper bite in there somewhere I think would kick it up a notch.
Really like it though, either way.

Tried a local ice cream shop, As You Like It, and got the salted malted chocolate crunch.
Pros: The ice cream was dense. The malt flavor carried through, and the chocolate crunch was nice. Also, it was cheap.
Cons: The base was a bit icy, and there wasn't enough salt.
This wasn't good enough to be a top tier ice cream, but it's a pretty good mid-level one. They do birthday cakes, so I'll probably get my birthday cake here. You can't help the hopeless.

I grabbed a BOGO deal at the store (2 for $5) of these Yasso FROYO pints. Honestly, not that bad. Obviously not super rich, but far far better than things like Halo Top... and for $2.5, seems worth it IMO if you wanted something that sits a bit lighter in your stomach at 1cup+
Real sugar too which is nice... easier on the stomach for some.Last edited by AdamWW; 04-20-2019 at 07:22 PM.
