Body Solid vs Powertec [Leverage squat, calf machines] (Opinions Please)

Look pretty much the same.
Look pretty much identical as far as the design is concerned. I don't know, if it is better to have a rounded or rectangular bar for the calf raise?
Check the aluminum gage, to make sure it is identical, then which company is easier to deal with, in case of problem, then go for the cheaper one, unless someone you have try both, tell you otherwise.

powertec one says -
Weight Capacity:
Lever arm = 500 LBS
obviously a 138lbs monster like me will need a higher rating than that
whereas the body sold says -
"Go heavy! Perform squats with 300, 500, 800 pounds and more!" - im unsure if it can actually handle 800lbs, because it doesn't strictly say 800lbs rating anywhere

I used to have the Powertec model. I liked the movement, but my biggest complaint was that the starting position was very low. It was even worse for doing calf raises because I used more weight for those. I ended up jury-rigging a way to get the shoulder harness about 8" higher at the beginning of the movement. BTW, I'm only 5'11" so I'm sure it would be extremely awkward for someone well above 6'.

I also had the Powertec model.
My height is 1m80, and the starting position was too low.

It's like the powertec chest press, we start to bench press in the stretch position.

Anybody know what brand this is? Looks like it could be a little larger of a unit than the other 2

I must say I am a big Body-Solid fan and really like their equipment but when I tried out their leverage squat machine it got real shaky with 450 pounds on it. I don't think I would want to be under it with 800 pounds on it. IMO it should have been made with a stronger upright. All the plates I used were 45's (five per side) and the best I can remember it would not have held much more weight using 45's. Of course they do make 100 pound weights that you could use. Just putting on and taking off 100 pound plates would be a good workout within itself.
....Just my 2 cents. Here's what is happening in my neck of the woods....

thanks BS
body solid one appears to be able to handle more weight than the powertec. bodysolid on their website rates their leverage machince 'commercial rated'

i think a rounded calf block would be more comfortable than a square on also... if i could only just try it on for size... i think i'll get one

I also have the Powertec model. The exact one that's in your pictures. I definitely wish it had a higher starting position, i'm 6'2" and its awkward getting in and out of it for either squats or calf raises. I have to say i don't really love it for squats, it hits me more in the glutes and hamstrings than the quads. But its still okay. It is fantastic though for standing calf raises IMO. Would just be better if it had a higher starting position.
When i bought this here in Canada it was on clearance for $299 CAD. The BodySolid model was like $649 i believe. The store sold both models (but didn't have the BS one on display) so i asked the guy his thoughts on the BS model. He reccomended the Powertec, and said the powertec leverage equipment was better then the BodySolid leverage equipment. He also said that the rounded calf bar felt really awkward when he used it. The price difference made the choice a no brainer for me.

That must be the only guy in the world who thinks the Powertec leverage equipment is better than the Body Solid.
If calf raises are you main reason for looking at one of these It is very possible o do them leaning into your power rack using just a home made or store bought calf block..[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 11

Any resolution…
I know this is an old thread but I have the same dilemma. (Not calfs though - I have a block and love single leg dumbbells calf raises or standing ones with my Powertec lever gym)… but squats are not good on the lever gym as the axis of rotation is too low. The leverage squat seems much better and because of the shoulder pads and angle it feels like you push back and up. But are the axis of rotation the same height. The two machines list with different heights but not clear whether this is at rotation or not. Any new thoughts?
