I warmed up to 155 and hit that and then 160. I went for 175 and got it up to the top of my head but couldn't lock it out. I think I could hit 170/175 if I worked up differently. I haven't actually attempted a 1RM PP in 3 years. We work it a lot at percentages but it's rare that we max, so this was fun!

Solid bench of peace! I keep trying to figure out the ratios, like typically someone should be able to PP x% of their bench. It seems all over the place for many people. I never did a lot of overhead stuff but bench frequently. Maybe I should keep PP in my routine for a yr and see how it goes.

Bench Press: 200x1
Deads: 315x1
Back Squats: 275x1

It does seem to be all over the place. I have found that benching helps with everything overhead. We bench a lot since we have so much overhead stuff in our workouts. My jerk, push jerk, push press, and strict press all went up when I spent a decent amount of time benching. Push press is a weird lift, though, and it won't be big on its own unless you train it. Getting the timing of the dip/drive right takes a bit of work. With your strength, I bet you could push press in the 180s or more.

Awesome press, epolis! It was amazing how fast and smooth that looked, almost effortless. I'm the opposite of you lol, everything overhead is a struggle. I can consistently hit (paused) bench singles at 150, but I'm only good for about 82.5 on strict ohp, and 100 on push press. It's frustrating!
Hobbes, good luck with 180 pp, I would love to see that!If you like to deadlift, we'll get along great!

Powerlifter, right? I don't think that's an abnormal ratio. I have a 205 bench in competition, but only 115 strict press. Never tried to push press so don't know the timing and it probably would be very little more than my strict press.

Wow 180 I'll keep working at it. Bench is pretty damn "easy" for me as far as it making sense and strength wise. Push press still confuzzles me, I have to re-read the instructions out of Supple Leopard and refer to my notes before every PP session, definitely not experienced in Oly lifts of any kind. Just like Maxima said, personally my seated OHP best 105x4 is about equal with the 120 PP, need to get that leg drive down.

The tempo is definitely something that takes some getting used to! My overhead pressing strength is probably my biggest asset - can't squat for s**t, but at least I can press some stuff, haha!
lel <3
Keep practicing and you'll get it. Dip drive - that's all you need to remember. Dip is fast, drive is aggressive, squeeze your a$$ hard. I think the dip is where people get messed up. It's fast and not controlled. The tempo is tough at first. But I know you have the strength for a crazy push press!

Hmm you do the dip fast? I've been consciously slowing the dip down, somehow I thought if I was more methodical I'd get more out of my legs. I'll try it this way tonight!
I couldn't tell from your video, but I assume you initiate the press with the bar in front rack position? I do it the same as Hobbes, holding the bar in my hands and trying to keep my arms from bouncing too much by engaging my lats. I've tried doing it from the rack but either I end up with wrist problems, or hit myself in the chin lol.If you like to deadlift, we'll get along great!

EPolis spitting advice in here looking at the video, I think she has one of the cleanest push press forms on either leaderboard.
I have noticed the women tend to be better about using that initial push to drive it off the shoulders. With the exception of a few, most of the guys seem to be muscling it into lockout lol. Strong stuff, ladies, but I regretfully inform all of you that for the first time since I separated the men and women divisions(second competition) the guys have beat you in getting a leader in every weight class. Usually the women have someone in all the first place spots and most of the second place spots before this happens
Step the game up!You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

lol someone got you mel!
well it looks like EPolis is dominating the overall spot, but even if you cannot get an upper 70s Wilks, there are PLENTY of spots left in the weight classes. The competition only has 7 days, 2 hours, and 24 minutes left! You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

It is bare in there But I kind of figured the Women's Division was going to be a little short on this one. This site being primarily bodybuilding and powerlifting, push press is not a common lift. I only started it a few weeks before this competition, and I LOVE overhead types of lifts. If look at it, everyone that entered the Womens Division was new to the lift except the one person who is riding that Overall Spot by a huge lead. And her form was better than everyone else's except possibly that one Asian guy in the 148 class.
Welcome #7 to the women's division solid entry. But I think you could have taken first from thehobbes. You made 100 pounds look TOOOOOOOO easy. It would have been a nice little twist to make hobbes come in with 130+ if you had nailed 125 lol.You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Dunno, I had total failure to launch on a 110 attempt, but I also mentally shut down the second I felt the weight of it when unracking lol. Much though I'd love to see hobbes sweat a little (wait, wut?), I'm afraid I'm not the person to do it. She's got me beat pretty resoundingly on all of the upper body strength stuff. Although maybe I could beat her at something pointless, like lateral raises

True, interesting to see people try and pick up something new. At least this is a pretty safe lift if you have a complete failed attempt. Now if you had an overhead squats comp, oh lawd, many trips to the emergency room would be made that day.
I will be here waiting patiently with my t-rex arms ready to lift once more if such a challenge arises! Crap, I know "lateral raise" is some shoulder-ish lift and not a sammich or a dinosaur, but not too sure of the details. Prob never done one before lol.Current PRs:

I did the lift last night. If I can turn the video cause somehow it's coming out sideways on my phone... Yeah, check my instagram and you'll see that. Going to try fixing and post to youtube tonight. Only got 90 as failed at 95, though the guy going around the bar to take plates from the rack right before I was going to pick it up to do an attempt didn't help much.
Either way, it's not super impressive but kind of nice remembering 2 years ago when I was doing Stronglifts to start out and how difficult pressing the bar was back then, let alone to even try 95. Maybe after I do proper upper body training more regular that 100 press will be mine.Gym Max: 229/126/305

Good job, with you, itsagoodday, and youjungl, and our newest HBB mod the ladies came out swinging in the last couple of days. It felt good to have to edit so much of both leaderboards at once lol. But it was especially good to fill a lot of those blank spots on the womens board.
Don't worry if it is sideways, I hear the judge of this comp has a laptop that he has to frequently turn on its side during these competitions
And if your signature is still current, that is some pretty impressive over head pushing to your benchpress.
Alright, HBBs, if you are still interested in getting those entries in, it better be real soon. This one ends at 11:59 PM tomorrow night! You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.
