    Does plasti-dip look cheap?

Sup guys. Just picked up a 2012 accord coupe EXL v6 in polished metal metallic. Looks pretty solid with 20% tinted windows. I was thinking about plasti-dipping the stock wheels, and maybe the H emblems (would do both black). With an after market spoiler (not a big one, just a small one with the 3rd brake light like this http://www.carid.com/2012-honda-acco...er-941386.html) can't post pics at work. Just wondering if plasti-dip would look cheap, or if it would look okay in person/if anyone has any thoughts on this color combo.

Of course it looks cheap... that's because it is! But doesn't mean you cant make it look decent , after all its not a permanent change

Picked these up from CL on the cheap...they were silver with a polished lip but they had seen their better days... 1 hour worth of labor and about $40 in material..

You can make it look decent but end of the day you want a high end finish you are going to drop high end prices..

I have seen a lot of guys do this and you can run into trouble with the beating that wheels take. On your car it lasts well enough but on wheels it usually goes to hell quickly.

Plastidip will look cheap, without a doubt. It won't last long either (because it's not meant to). It's great if you wanna get an idea of what your wheels would look like if they were black, but that's about all it's good for.

good point - was thinking of doing it just to see, and maybe after winter get some nice wheels. should I take the wheels off the car if I dip em?

Ya I believe that the wheels would get torn up quick enough. Maybe it'll be best to save on the wheels. In the meantime, I guess I can still do the emblems.

True, probably better to save for better rims. It should last on the emblems, no?

It depends on the color and if you use the "metalizer"

Rear emblem would probably be ok, front would come off pretty quickly depending on bugs and rock chips.

That's key. A lot of people rush the application, don't use any adhesion promoter, or don't use any kind of finishing coat. It can get to a certain point where the amount of prep/material/effort is better spent towards a real paint job.

No adhesion promoter needed... and there is no finishing coat..

This was literally washed with water... let it completely dry... and 4 coats of Black plastidip... like I said.. its stronger than you might think

lol don't use adhesion promoter for plastidip

i've used it on wheels on my previous car and it survived high temps from brakes at the track the whole year without issues. the only thing that ruined one of them was a drop of oil that eventually caused a spot to bubble up and start peeling. went through the winter and snow without problems.

for people that say it won't last on the wheels:
    1. they didn't clean the wheel good before applying - plasti dip doesn't even require the wheels to be super clean, just wash them with soap and it will stick just fine
    2. they didn't apply enough coats
    3. they curb their wheels often - in which case nothing will last

in regards to finishing coat, there's the "glossifier" and it makes the finish shinier and a lot easier to clean (especially black)
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

it can look good if the surface is prepped properly and youv practiced application. Its not easy to get good at spraying it properly. Think about it along the same lines as using paint but plasti-dip is easy to get off and redo compared to paint.

On emblems and rims it should be fine. A good cleaning should suffice. There's also other products that are better than plasti-dip but unless you're doing the whole car I wouldn't bother.

Honestly like the hack jobs done with a rattle can look cheap as **** esp in the black color when you do wheels.

I did my srt10 wheels for my Ram in a gunmetal gray with the mettalizer and sprayed it with a gun. No one ever knew they were plasti dipped and i got a **** ton of compliments on the color, they lasted three years perfectly until they recently started peeling.

I sent my wheels for my car to go get powder coated and am regretting it since that **** costs so much, prolly picking em up soon hopefully they look half decent considering how much its costing me

Yeah ofcourse plasti dip looks cheap, it doesn't last long, it crumbles away quite quick if you use it on the interior or the steering wheel.. better let the profesionals have a look at it. check them out
