Is there really any point to leg press?

If you back squat, front squat etc etc is there any point to leg press ? I'm working on getting chit together to put a gym in my garage and the leg press is the only thing I can think of right now that I won't have access to anymore.

You don't truly need it no. It can be helpful for higher rep schemes. But if you squat with intensity and variation you won't miss it one bit.

it's never necessary. It's utilitarian for several methods of training but it's nothing that can't be replicated with a barbell and some plates.

I usually only use it for volume at the end of a workout after squats because my back is too fried to support a bar anymore. leg press works well for that.
There is simply no other exercise, and certainly no machine, that produces the level of central nervous system activity, improved balance and coordination, skeletal loading and bone density, muscular stimulation and growth, connective tissue stress and strength, psychological demand and toughness, and overall systemic conditioning as the correctly performed full squat.

It's useful for loading up entirely with all the plates in the gym and looking around to see who is impressed. And then leaving it racked for the next guy to do the same.

if you know how to properly use and utilize leg press it is amazing for leg hypertrophy and less stress on the back like squats can be. Many a bodybuilder will claim legpress is where big legs are made.

I enjoy it for for calf raises, also for one legged presses it really helps with explosive training.

READ THIS: You know how your Visa gift cards usually end up with $0.63 left on them, so then you carry them around for months before you eventually just throw them away? Well, Tarck's here to tell you that most charities have a PayPal link on their website where you can quickly donate that balance (even if you don't have a PayPal account). It only takes a moment and it beats literally throwing money away. Thanks for your time; we now return to your regularly scheduled cuckold and FA threads.

They're great for mass, but I don't do them because it makes my inner thighs way too big.... like so much that they rub together and get chaffed and can't put my jeans on. Leg press, never again. Front squat is king for aesthetics.

It's great to work on flexibility and targeted, controlled movements. Go wide, press through heels, and fire from glutes; close heels, push through toes for calves and hammys or heels for hammys, glutes and hip flexor. It's a pretty versatile machine.

Leg press is a really underrated exercise since noone actually legpresses to full depth and/or does them properly

Not just that, but has anyone really done a heavy set of legpresses to failure or just before? It takes a tremendous amount of focus, drive & effort (full depth) since you are loading the biggest and strongest muscles in the body without blowing energy on stabilising the upper body supporting the weight that barbell squats require (and force most people to end the set before there legs have really been hit/fatigued/stimulated). This results in ALOT of weight being used and most people just can't handle a real set of legpresses, because you'll be near blacking out if you did them properly (why most do 3/4 reps since it really is an intense exercise)

My best leg gains were done on leggpresses and hacksquats and Mr 6 time olympia dorian yates says the same thing Legpess/Hacksquats > Barbell squats

I kinda wish my gym had a leg press tbh for some sets at the end of leg day. Extra leg work without sending my back or knees to snap city.

My leg days are pretty "easy"
3-5 sets of explosive moderately heavy weight, 5 or less reps (today I did 135x5 165x5 185x5 205x3). i dont go heavy on squats bc it fukin sucks (my max DL is 365 so yea my squat is disproportionately weak)
3 sets of 135lb BB walking lunges (no one does these at my gym besides me, makes up for my weak squat lmao)
4 sets of romanian DLs (usually 135 bc my back is shot at this point)
    calf work

Leg press is good for directly hitting quads. Not necessary though.
You must do half press then. Full leg presses engage far more than just quads. It's not an isolation movement

dont lock out knees, dont lift your butt up, concentration of the leg muscle you are trying to use , i.e. abductors, adductors, hammies, quads, utilize foot position and where you place your heels or toes, dont use your hands on your knees to lift up the weight or relieve the weight.

You can effectively hit almost every single leg muscle on a leg press depending on where you place your heels/toes/feet and its more of an isolation lift when not doing squared and center which will recruit more muscles.

It's not necessary but I like it personally and have found it's helped with my progress. Heavy weight with lower reps and then narrowing the stance with lower weight and high reps gives me some gooooood pain.

I figured leg press would be easier on my back with a pars fracture than squats. I was dead wrong, even light weight still feels like it's going to destroy that spot. And I can now back squat fine most of the time, and front squat fine every time, even Rdl only cause minor pain. Leg press tho, still can't do it.

Leg press is good if you want to get the benefits of the squat without the spinal compression. A lot of leg press machines aren't designed properly though, same with most machines to be honest.

Similar to this. Use it to add volume and really push to failure.
