Can anyone compete at powerlifting events?

And how do I get started? I am not strong at all and would by no means be competitive but I think it would be fun and motivate me in training. Would I get Bert stared hard for weaker numbers? Anybody have advice and experience?

For reference would probably deadlift around 330 and squat around 250. No idea what bench is at right now because I've been focusing on standing overhead press the last month.

if you can follow commands, squat to depth/bench with a pause/deadlift without hitching, then you're good to go

just make sure all your gear is approved by the federation

this being said, as long as you don't act like a jackass, it doesnt matter. go out, have fun, and get the first one under your belt.

Yea you can compete if it's not a event that you have to be invited to compete at, why doest it matter if your lifts are weaker compared to others? just do it for yourself and have fun, even if it's a competetion against others the only person you should compete with is yourself.

My dad's competing this weekend, Deadlift's & benching RAW.
Gna go watch even tho i'm not into Powerlifting myself, atleast yet (who knows what the future brings )

Does squat depth just have to be below parallel ?

    yes

without getting into X fed vs Y fed, id recommend looking at competition videos from the IPF (international powerlifting fed) for a good baseline on where to aim for regarding squat depth. That fed is pretty much the gold standard when it comes to judging IMO.

You dont get points for going ATG (or deeper than needed), but i think its better to err on the side of caution and squat deeper than you think. At least on your opener that is.

You just pay the entrance fee (if any) and go. The powerlifting community is pretty welcoming and encouraging. Great people.
