How do you guys bulking eat so much?!

Seriously?! I started lifting in February and have made great gains for the time I've gotten back into it. I started monitoring my calories very closely over a month or so ago and saw I was taking in about 2,000 calories... ok that's a bit low so I bumped it up to 2700 calories a day which a bit harder but I just switched out things I was eating (lean chicken for salmon, more red meat, etc). I was considering bumping it up a little further but geez... is my stomach ever going to adjust to eating so much every day?! I don't know that I can bump it up to 3000 calories a day without feeling stuffed non stop even if I decided to pull the trigger on it. I just don't know that I've been seeing the gains I've hoped for over the past few weeks at 2,700 so I've been considering it.

Anyone else out there around 6' tall 170lbs with some input to give me? Should I be more patient or just attempt to find clever ways to sneak calories in? Some input would be appreciated, honestly.

edit for clarification: I'm eating "clean" not dirty or junk food!

There's your problem. You're not eating junk food.

A bowl of ice cream a day will take care of it real quick.

But if you don't want to do that then make your own salad dressing using olive oil and put that on your food. Or marinade in high calorie dressings. Peanut Butter does wonders.

Thank you for the helpful suggestions. I could pretty easily get in some junk food (except ice cream because lactose intolerance.... don't want to be on the toilet all night) but I would prefer not to.

I realize that for others this may seem like a stupid or simple question, but I was legitimately trying to avoid not eating junk and still eating "well" while staying in a surplus.

Calorie dense foods are your friend

Snack on nuts/seeds/trail mix throughout the day, eat fattier cuts of meat, drink whole fat milk and eat whole fat dairy, add oils to your cooking/food, eat some pizza, chinese food, alfredo, avocados, etc

In a world where pizza, peanut butter, and ice cream (lactose tolerance aside - sorry opie) exist, there should never be a problem meeting a bulking calorie goal.

Never tried it before. I haven't even heard of it before. I usually pick up lactaid milk and sometimes Soy milk but it's so expensive compared to regular milk. Just about any kind of cheese/milk product makes my stomach feel bloated as hell and uncomfortable which ends in me on the toilet or constipated. That's probably TMI but it sucks and it's miserable.

Avoiding dairy is not such a hard task to do unless you're Italian or French

you might not be able to find it yet it's everywhere around here.. northeast but it might not have reached other parts of the country
anyway.. there are many ways to eat more calories start by not thinking clean and dirty , there is no dirty food unless you drop it on the floor and no need to be scared of fatty fast food indulge with anything in moderation

It's not really that difficult. On an average day I have a hard time feeling satieted with anything less than 4,500 cals.

You just need to be choosing the RIGHT types of foods (calorie dense).

You've been well covered as far as getting in more calories, if thats whats needed.

I'd add that you mentioned you've not " been seeing the gains I've hoped for over the past few weeks". You should not be expecting to see anything at all on such a small timescale really, other than an average of about half a lb of scale weight gained, and a very small increase on your lifts.

Adding strength and muscle is a very slow process. If 2700 calories is allowing you to progress on your strength training and its causing you to gain ≈2lbs a month (or even less, as long as you're not losing weight really), then its enough.

    Food is enjoyable, that's how.

And why would you 'sneak' calories in? How about just eating them without guilt and make progress toward your goal?

I appreciate your words of advice. Thank you and "mirin" the avatar. I'm about your height but 172lbs. Clearly you've cut more than I have and weigh more but I'd be happy to get there one day. Keep up the good word!

It's already been covered that I was approaching things with the wrong mindset and looking only at "lean" foods and not more calorie dense foods.

Bro fuk everyone that says don't eat clean food chit. Eat clean, eat a pastry look like a pastry. Change some of your brands, make simple food combos like adding granola to yogurt, and as weird as this may sound diet soda or carbonated water, I can't remember. I know that's strange but it does some weird thing with insulin where your body will crave carbs

"There is no question that belts assist in generating a few more Newton-meters (or foot-pounds) of torque in the torso through elastic recoil of a bent orso that is stiffened with a belt. However, if a neutral spine is preserved throughout the lift this effect is minimal. In other words, to obtain the maximal effect from a belt, the lifter must lift poorly and in a way that exposed the back to a much higher risk of injury!”
