The problem for many people is all they target is fat loss so the treadmill effectively becomes a hamster wheel. Once they get off and quit the fat comes back. It's not like a few months of losing weight magically curbed their appetite — if anything more activity will increase it. And when it comes to diet they're surrounded by "low fat," "99% fat free," etc. products and none of that crap fills them up for long so they're eating even more.
The only effective solution is to combine resistance training to build muscle with something that increases daily activity levels which ideally something that isn't mindnumbing like staring at a TV on a treadmill e.g. playing some kind of sport, cycling/walking outdoors, boxing, swimming, etc., and a diet that is based on higher protein which is generally more filling and plays a key role in muscle gain/maintaining muscle.
I'm pretty certain if the average person ate a 250g eye fillet which is around 400 calories and say 100g of vegetables which all up is around 500 calories total for dinner they'd be full. Throw in a slice of something sweet for dessert with 250 calories and unless you're a couch potato with a slow metabolism doing no exercise it's not going to exceed your caloric requirements.
Now swap that with some super low fat protein deficient meal and the chances are high they'll be craving something an hour later. Craving left unchecked usually manifests itself in some kind of binge eating activity that will absolutely result in a caloric surplus.

Also worth mentioning is when I recommend steak to some people they'll often complain it's "too expensive" but they have no issue spending even more on fancy supplements.
People always try to make this stuff more complicated than it is and of course that's no surprise because there's a lot of money tied up in confusing people and making them dependent on personal training, diet plans, supplements, etc.
Cliffs: the basics work.

Was walking on the cliffs today and heard someone playing with their sound system in one of the parking cutoffs that are scattered along the drive across from the neighborhood. It's a nice little public stretch of a trail, but I don't ever think I'd want to test out stuff like that out there in the more quiet areas. In larger non commercial parking lots I used to play around with tuning and what not, but never so publically lol.

Mine last summer was real basic. The foundation was based on two basic rules.
Rule #1: No food until a sale is made. (fear of starvation is an excellent motivator)
Rule #2: 60 mins of walk or eliptical every day.
Fat loss is only one of many benefits of walking. I simply learned to enjoy it and still do it every day. Some of my most brilliant and innovative sales and marketing concepts were formulated while actively enjoying all the beauty of mother nature and her seasons.DR. 3time

They got Al Pastor, Carnitas, Carne Asada, Birria, Chili Verde, Pollo, and Lengua.
Tacos/Quesadilla (flour or corn)/or Burritos.
Each meat has like a different sauce, they're all pretty good. Though unlike most any other place, I don't get Carne Asada that often here. When I felt like getting 2 burritos I found it a good time to get familiar with it.

mm we have the best eats but nothing like that type of variety. From your posting I'm assumed you're a west coast crypt.. and I visit Taco Tijuana when taking care of business out west.
But here's how it probably sounds:

"Earth Alliance, a new environmental foundation created by climate change crusader Leonardo DiCaprio and his philanthropic friends, has pledged $US5 million ($A7.45 million) in aid to help repair the fire-ravaged Amazon."
When I saw the headline I thought great, with his celebrity connections and billionaire buddies they should be able to haul in a billion in no time.
$5m???
A few days after Notre-Dame went up in smoke over a billion had been pledged to help restore it. And that's a building. Not the largest rainforest on the planet.
Nice try but time to dig deeper.

In other news, I found a particular meat at a certain store that I find myself enjoying on the grill. It's an 85% lean grass fed ground round that comes out to a good consistency with meatiness and greasiness that goes together pretty well rounded. Not too gamey and doesn't have super watery juices or grime.
I think in general, grilling works better with less fatty cuts because even with the cast iron the searing process has a ways to go before it starts drying out the meat. Using oils just right on the stove top helps if you know how to do it right, and yeah fattier cuts can take a bigger beating, but I think you're generally talking more juicy meats off the grill. Even cooking brisket off to the side has always come off more juicy than when I try roasting it in the oven.

After whey protein isolate it's the only supplement I'd spend my money on. I used to drink it right before and during workouts. These days I'd rather train without it. No question it does what it says on the box. Unlike a lot of BS supplements it works.
Recently started doing one-arm DB rows again and honestly nothing feels better for the lats and middle of the back. Helps avoid imbalances that can occur with a barbell when the stronger side is doing more of the work.

I also love training instinctively. I haven't followed a program in over 12 years. That might not be ideal for someone training for a BB contest or PL meet but I've never had a serious injury and feel satisfied with what I've achieved in there.
Driving to the gym or when I walk in there is when I decide what I'm going to train. Sometimes a muscle group feels tight or fatigued so I'll work around that and do whatever I want. When you feel inspired to train something you'll put more into it than training it because a piece of paper calls for it.
That being said I think it's very important to log your workouts so you can keep track of the overall workload and all your PRs.
