Also had the endurance... So what did being the strongest player aside from that entail?

**** I meant the movie with Johnny Depp, Black Mass. My bad.

I mainly know Rollins from his song being used on Dennis Miller Live.

Black Mass had all the ingredients to be a classic: great cinematography, some excellent performances, great source material. But the movie felt like a highlight reel of Whitey Bulger's life, without any narrative drive. It played out like a series of random events not stitched together much that eventually just ended. Outside of Depp and Joel Edgerton I found it very disappointing. Early Black Flag definitely better.

I agree about the substance of the movie, but I think it's a proper balance to that of The Departed.

Interesting, I read about a linguistics professor that said that Edgerton utterly nailed the Bostonian accent, pointing towards his own Australian accent in light of things like how they naturally drop the r's in a lot of their speech.

Yeah, I expected a little cheese and to laugh at some quick nostalgia since Karate Kid was a favorite of mine. Really surprised at how excellent the show was. It really balances the nostalgia with a new story well. Looking forward to season 2.

I doubt it holds a candle to the remake with Jaden Smith or the 4th one with Hillary Swank.

    Not much in common.

Words like water and butter are probably close where the r is dropped. However there are a lot of nuances to this fuked up accent which is why a lot of Americans probably find it hard to do a good impression even if they used all the right slang words. A dead giveaway with locals is the intrusive r.

I actually thought it was pretty blood pumping except for Nicholson's gangster. Mainly just his character that wasn't as rooted and expansive as the Cosa Nostra or some other mob network.

I don't know, it was pretty interesting how impressed he was. He talked about how Affleck and Damon easily get away with it because although they were from Cambridge, they had friends growing up etc... He said Martin Sheen in The Departed was a giveaway in The Departed because he reused his accent from JFK, where such the Kennedys didn't have traditional Bostonian accents stemming from the mass immigration but of upper class Irish that immigrated some time later.

So this guy was talking specifically about the Boston accent, but said that Edgerton probably had a lead in with the natural ability to drop the r's in the first place.

He also said that to get a good amount of volume of authentic Bostonian accent, to watch Massachusetts legislature conduct sessions in assembly since they all employ the dialect in a manner of heritage/custom.

I'm sure it helped with certain words. I've just noticed it's rare for an American comedian, actor, or host to do a convincing Australian accent so there's obviously a lot more going on.

Some Australians need subtitles. Wish I had a dollar for every time I ordered fast food and had to repeat it slowly because they're expecting a thick Aussie accent. Chris Hemsworth gets it right. Doesn't sell out and hide his accent but at the same time Americans can probably understand most of what he's saying.

I feel like what you're talking about might have to do aspects of a language that range from more proper to more colloquial. From accent to dialect to inflections and syntax variation. I could be wrong obviously, but is the Australian speech with distinction so thick and stretched from say common Commonwealth orientation?

There's plenty of testimonials including Arnold himself. Surprisingly, that's not even close to the most surprising tales of his strength. When was the last time you read 'Wilt, 1962'?

Seems unlikely but then he was a genetic freak and it was probably like the typical football player bench with a bounce and not strict with a pause.

Shaq is a big dude but looked relieved he never had to face him.

Doing a google on Chamberlain's BP and I found that he trained with Arnold before Arnold was famous and that Shaq only had a 450 lb BP compared to Chamberlain's 500.

In Shaq's defense, it looked like Shaq was going in with a nonchalant handshake and wasn't really paying attention, when Wilt went really aggressive.

It just doesn't meet the eye test. You telling me this dude was benching 500lbs in college?

If you said mid 3s I may believe you, but that would only be because of the size. Doesn't "the Mountain" barely bench 500lbs? Freak or not, it is incredibly hard to believe

I remember at UH there was this 5'9"-5'10" that didn't look very big doing 3+ plates. Wasn't really as lanky as that obviously but had similar build as far as thickness.

Doesn't meet the eye test? (Like Trump having a shot at the Presidency, sometimes gotta listen to ole Uncle o )
Have you seen some of the clips where he'd toss, lift and flip guys 230lbs around with one arm? Imagine if more games were televised with clips available.

According to Bob Lanier, the first time he played Wilt Chamberlain Wilt "picked (him) up like a coffee cup". According to Newspapers, rookie Lanier weighed 288lbs. And Bob Lanier was a beast.

I wish there was a clip of when he dislocated a guys shoulder blocking his shot cleanly.. but there's pictures of his being escorted off the court in a stretcher.

You're right that he caught him off guard. I was referring more to the size of the dude.

I agree it's unlikely but football players will claim big benches done with a massive chest bounce and spotting so it might have been along those lines and rounded up.

As for Hafthor there's no bench event in strongman so he'd only be doing it for fun. Definitely not worth the risk to max out on it unless you're a powerlifter. Kirill Sarychev is practically the same size and as you know holds the record (738) and can pull around 900.

From former athlete Linda Huey's blog: "It was a long day of driving and boating and skiing, and when we got back to the house, Wilt totally took my breath away with an incredible feat of strength. Instead of going through the difficult maneuver of backing the boat trailer into the carport, Wilt simply unhitched the boat from his station wagon and single-handedly pushed that heavy boat and trailer into place. Everyone has their Strong Wilt story. That’s mine."
