It's especially fukked around mountain lions. You will probably never see them, but they see you. And the only time you might see one is if it has it's jaws around your neck. Only reason why hikes slightly make me nervous. Cats just like hunting, I hear if you run, it makes it worse cause then that get dat dere thrill of the hunt.

I've heard of people who encounter a cougar and just keep circling and facing the cougar until it finally gives up. The cougar wouldn't attack unless it saw the neck.

We have a Safari Park close to where I live. There is a Lion habitat that you drive through. Kind of makes you chit your pants when a few 400lb lions start rubbing up against your door window.
