    2 year progress - 90+kg-73kg

I decided to do something about my last fat body in May 2014. I was 47, and after seeing a picture of me, taken by my wife, I was shocked into doing something before it was too late.

    This was the picture:

I bought a bench and set of weights and started working out on a 5x5 program for the next year, while also being on a calorie deficit for the first 8 months.

After a year or so, my bodyweight dropped to 70kg:

After this, I spent 6 months on a 2 day, twice weekly split routine and then, after Christmas, I started on a 3 day, twice weekly split, which I have done for the past 5 months. I did this because I could have a dedicated leg day twice per week. This is me now, after exactly two years of training and changing eating habits for good:

I am now 73kg (at 5'7"), and I still have a couple of kg to get rid of (the stubborn fat around the waist), but thus far, I have really enjoyed the past two years, and, in body at least, I don't feel like I am 50 this year. I still have a very long way to go, but the first couple of years have been great and I now have a complete new outlook on life!

    Cheers,

    Chris

ETA - Sorry about the tatty garage/gym - I need to renovate it, but if I do, that means I would have to stop training, and I am not prepared to do that yet...

You my friend are a true inspiration. I only wish more people had the same commitment and passion you have exemplified. This is the prime example of what can be achieved with actual consistency and now I hope people see that age is just a number. A guy at my old gym, used to always tell me how I was young and capable of so much and he was too old to do what I do, well I wish I could introduce you to him. No excuses, no mercy, just pure will power. Great job!

Thank you guys for your kind comments!

I believe that if you're going to do something, do it right, or not at all.

Over the past month or so, I have got new PB's with:

    Bench Press - 135kg
    Squat - 160kg
    Clean and Press - 85kg
Deadlift - Last time I did a PB was last year at 170kg, so going for 185kg in a couple of weeks, now that I know I am up to it. I did 170 again last Sunday, and it went up quite easily, so am hopeful...

I have now got my 20 year old step son interested, and he is now doing the 5x5 program, and loving it also!

Damn impressive lifts, I have a mental block when it comes to squat and bench, so have been stuck around 100kg bench and 140kg MAX squat for over a year. Once I dropped the bar on my face when I had no tricep power, a few years ago and now I always have it in my mind that it will happen again, and for squat, going to start practicing dropping the weight to boost confidence to get my squat much higher. Keep it up bro, and keep inspiring those around you. The best feeling is when people ask for advice and you know that you can give them a little push in the right direction.

Thank you! I can imagine dropping the bar on your face would have a psychological effect! I would not to Bench or do Squats without spotter bars - I tried to up my 1RM on Bench last Sunday with 137.5kg, but failed - the spotter bars saved me!

I too periodically drop the weight back with Squats, to concentrate on full ROM (I fully realise that when training by myself, it can be all too easy to pick up bad habits). I usually do three sets of 12-8 reps with lighter weight, followed by 3x5 with heavier weight, sometimes working up to a 1RM, followed by a drop set of around 8-10 reps. I also sometimes drop in paused Box Squats.
