I have never bet on horses before but am interested in it. My question is about show bets.
Say I bet $2 on a horse to show. It comes in 3rd. The board says the payout is something like
8.20 win 4.60 place 2.80 show
Does that mean when I cash in my ticket the give me my $2 back plus .80 cents or do they give me the $2 bet back plus $2.80?

Tip: Just like in all sports bet on big underdogs only. Only chance to win long term.
