Loads of bears, 18 now, 7 rattle snakes(almost stepped on one, about 5ft long, he coiled up and rattled at me). Lots of deer, rabbits, birds and whatnot.
The bears are really cute and pretty derpy. Like big dogs. They'll run away then look at you and continue munching on their berries.
I saw one bear who literally fell out of a tree 10ft in front of me then ran off. Not sure if he was trying to climb to get away from me(they do that a lot) and then changed his mind or just fell out because he was clumsy. Either way it made me lol.
I have good video of some snakes and a mama bear with cubs in this video. https://youtu.be/rN6NYWsPYNY

What town/state are you near now? Not sure if you passed me yet but I live near the AT in Pawling NY. Not a far walk from the village of Pawling, nice quaint village. PM me when you come through here, maybe we can meet up and I'll show you around.

I gear thats a really fun trail since you get to eat good food and have a real place to stay most nights. Imo lots of squats and deads. Strength is king in hiking ad everything else. Then just start slow and give yourself time to condition before big miles. 3-4 weeks of slower pace is good benchmark. Also train by hiking with s heavy pack. Wear sock liners(I use fox river) they'll save you from blisters.

When you get near Palmerton, PA, directly off the AT, let me know. It's literally the only thing to do here, is hike, but there are bars galore. And you can shower at my gym's showers if you need it.

The El Camino should be a cake walk compared to the AT. I too have considered doing the El Camino (starting in Switzerland maybe) or complete my triple crown and do the PCT.
Been trying to find 2 people to tag along with me for either one, but not surprisingly most people i know can't think of life beyond the 40hr work week, binge drinking on the weekend, and 2 weeks vacation."There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle." -Gym Jones

Hey OP ... does your camera do weird color enhancing with photos or does my phone and photography skills just suck? Your photos have a Peter Lnk type of quality to them...
Just curious how you're getting that vibrant color style?"There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle." -Gym Jones

Put a new story up on my blog about some paranormal weirdness I experienced three nights ago, www.thejourney.co
Here's section from the blog:
Paranormal Shelter
For Stumpy’s last night on the AT we stayed at the David Lesser Memorial Shelter. It’s a really nice shelter maintained by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. The shelter has a deck, adirondack chairs, a swing, and a large sleeping space.
There was nothing to indicate that this shelter had any special properties. We felt comfortable and at ease. Ate a massive spaghetti dinner and bedded down in the shelter that we had to ourselves. No one else had arrived, either to stay in the shelter or to camp.
The weirdness started when Stumpy saw a light underneath me and thought I had accidentally turned on my headlamp. Not an uncommon occurrence. Except that tonight my headlamp was already stowed in the tent pouch and off. We never located the source of the brief flash of light.
I was awoken multiple times through the night by what sounded like rocks banging together. I also felt like something big was prowling around the shelter. More of a gut feeling than anything specific.
Stumpy also had trouble sleeping and was plagued by nightmares all night. We compared notes in the morning. She didn’t hear any of the rock banging noises but also felt a sense of unease.
The woods can be eeiry at night but what we felt seemed to be different from the normal “dark woods are creepy” feeling.
The woods can be really eeiry at times.
THE WOODS CAN BE REALLY EEIRY AT TIMES.
In the morning I walked down to get water from the spring. This spring is really far from the shelter, about a quarter of a mile. While I was gone Stumpy heard a howling from the direction of the spring. A sustained series of high pitched howls. She thought I was messing with her. It wasn’t me. I never heard anything during my trip to fetch water.
That was the end of the weirdness. We packed up and hiked to Harper’s Ferry without incident.
I wonder if that shelter resided in a “thin place.” Maybe a place where different dimensions meet. Or maybe there was a Sasquatch prowling around. Rock banging and howls are two classic signs that Sasquatch is in the area. Whatever it was it made for a memorable last night with Stumpy.11B, NASM CPT, CFL1

Been wearing trail runners, Hoka challengers. Light and comfy. For long distance GTX just keeps your shoes from drying cause they'll get wet no matter what when it rains hard. Going to look at getting some merrells or something like that cause these hokas don't hold up. Start falling apart after 250 miles and are absolutely trashed by 500 miles. Not worth the $130 imo.

This is awesome man, I'm definitely jealous. I'm sure it's gorgeous out there, I was up by the end of the trail in Maine a few weeks ago in Millinocket and it definitely was. I might just have to give this a try some day.
Followed on IG, some dope pics man. GL*Never Negs Crew*

There's a decent amount of partying in the first 500 miles but after that most of the party type people quit cause that lifestyle and mentality really isn't conducive for walking 2200 miles. Def some attention whore sloot's on the trail. White blazing whole way, not skipping any sections.
