Currently I exercise every time I get the energy and go for a few days in a row till I need a rest then I stop and end up waiting about a week or two then repeat. How can I stick to a daily thing?

Do different things like get to the gym most days but give that a break and go for bike ride or play basketball other days. If you're working fulltime and hitting weight intensely every day you will burn out.
Also make it clear to those around you that you won't be available until 7pm or so (That's my time, I work until 5, gym right after and family/friends know unless it really important not to make plans with me before then)

Very good post. Also when I was a trainer I would have one circuit you would have to beat your last time usually at the end of the workout and my clients seemed to love it. They would look forward to beating it.
Personally myself I am going to start throwing in some more crossfit style workouts and they seem to be fun(and short). Take 20min and do one, you will feel better and 20 minutes is nothing =]AverageToSavagePL ---> Logging Avatar Nutrition and Juggernaut Method

Schedule it in advance. Schedule your rest days. The hardest part is getting started. You just have to suck it up and do it even when you don't want to; especially at first. I've only been at it for 7 months and still have more of those days than I care to admit, but far fewer than in the first month or two. Get on a regular schedule and stick to it for a month or two and it will become the norm (like a habit).
You're still very young, you shouldn't need more than 24-48 hours rest between workouts (if you're eating enough and getting enough sleep).
If you find you have slipped and missed more than your scheduled rest days, just do your favorite work out to kick start yourself and get back on track.
I workout early in the mornings, the hard part is getting out of the bed. Once I'm up, it's no problem to go to the gym. By the same token, if I miss the morning workout, I have a hard time going to do it in the evening as I don't enjoy evening lifting."You must love the grind, the unsexy mobility work, and the discipline to keep going day after day. Motivation gets you started, habit keeps you going. Make it a part of your daily routine. It doesn't take long to have an effective weight training session. If you can't do that, get another hobby like hiking, riding bikes, running, those are all things good for your health that aren't expensive and can be done with friends and family.

As others have mentioned, I had to make it a routine and daily habit. I try to make exercise the first thing I do in the morning before work so I can't make any excuses later on in the day. I am a creature of habit and routine as many others are so I wake up at 5:20 during the week and hit the gym or on my non weight lifting days, ill do cardio or just walk but regardless of the activity I try to keep my schedule similar. I also have grown to love to listen to Podcasts while I am walking and sometimes when i'm lifting (But I prefer music while lifting) so that helps to multitask and enjoy multiple hobbies at once. I do jump rope for cardio and play bball on weekends, you just have to do whatever activity that you enjoy as its a marathon not a sprint and therefore do something you can do long term.
I will always change up my cardio every so often to keep it from getting monotonous, I do jump rope intervals now, elliptical in the winter and my favorite but most taxing exercise are alternating sprint days at the track.
