    Sipping on BCAAs all day - Bad idea?

    A little BCAA in my water and I drink more water daily - I found a BCAA that I actually like the taste of (Xtend Watermelon). Not questioning the usefulness of BCAAs nor the cost issue but is it a bad idea to sip on it throughout the day? I have read it can cause a small insulin response. I know several people that do this but am curious if it is a bad idea if you are trying to stay lean and not bulking up. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Yes it's a bad idea. MPS is actually impacted negatively due to the constant insulin spike.

    You can but know that BCAAs are made up of calories, so they can add up if you're drinking it all day. Nothing wrong with sipping between meals. I've read that it's not recommended to drink all day but will you really notice a difference in results from it? Highly doubt it. More of it just could get expensive if you're using a lot of scoops a day.
    Progressive overload + progressive eating = gains. Simple as that!

    The general consensus is that BCAAs can be beneficial during a cut or if you are training in a fasted state.

    I train fasted so I'm always drinking some ErgoBCAAs daily. Because I do feel BCAAs do help in my recovery.

    That's what I do, too. OP, if it's a convenience thing, you can consider finding a good protein powder and replacing your BCAA powder with that.

    I supplement BCAAs twice a day. Once pre-workout (or in the morning if non training day) and in the afternoon. Usually only takes me 15 min to drink it so not really sipping. Helps delay hunger and tastes good.

    I just drink my intraload in the morning when I train fasted. I eat every two hours though, so I don't really need to drink then throughout the day.

    As much as all supplement companies would love for you to take multiple servings of their products all day long it is more sensible and effective to have the bulk of your BCAA intake immediately before-during-post workout.

    High doses of Leucine for example could actually make you sleepy due it's effect on insulin. You'll get good results from using a product like INTRALOAD® during and right after your session.

    A constant influx of amino acids and/or protein can have an impaired effect on muscle protein synthesis, actually causing a negative effect on recovery. Using aminos during training or for fasted training is the most effective method in using them. If flavored water allows you to drink more water, by all means, unless you are a high level physique or perfoermance athlete it's probably not going to hurt you, but they do have calories in them and if you want to cut fat it could have a negative impact. They also cause a release of insulin which can be counterproductive in many ways.

    OP, I recommend taking BCAA's first thing in the morning and before bed on non training days. During and or after your workouts on training days.

    In the past I would only use BCAAs in the morning when training on an empty stomach. Now I take aminos in my Muscle Elements AmiNo Flow pre workout and prior to bed with AminoPM, but I see no point in drinking them constantly throughout the day. I just can't stand carrying a big jug around, or trying to track all that. Also, consuming that much I'd imagine would take a toll financial wise. Expensive? No... But a bottle that would last a month now lasts a week with the increase in consumption.
