I'm not diabetic, but have had some issues with blood sugar, mostly overnight. Thanks! I drank coffee on Friday and it made it worse, so I cut it out. Oddly enough, I apparently don't drink coffee regularly enough to cause any withdrawal symptoms! It's been 5 days and nothing really

Are you taking stuff like that or actual RX allergy meds? Still sneezing for days over here, the struggle is real.
Basically zyrtek and benadryl. Started it back up and I don't think that's the issue - I think lifting is actually the issue! LOL details below

Nice lifts, and congrats on the PR. I hear you on focus, maybe it's the time of year, but I need a kick in the ass a lot more often when it comes to working out. Preworkouts help with a bit with that energy boost, but it's more of the matter of just getting started. I need louder music. :P

So the verdict is vertigo. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) to be specific. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-...n/con-20028216

Benching was kind of awful. Every time I got down on the bench it happened. I was able to keep it together for my sets and even a PR, but apparently continuing to get into those positions make it worse. Tuesday I was supposed to squat but I felt unsteady and borderline dizzy all day, enough that I went to the doctor's office and paid the enormous co-pay because I'm on a high deductible plan.

Basically, we did some voodoo called the Epley Manuever

The video makes it look less voodoo than it felt. Yes, my eyes apparently looked like that. It seems I have issues in both ears, so I'll probably have to do it again on the other side if I'm not back to normal by end of day tomorrow. No bending over, no laying flat or inverted, have to sleep with extra pillows. With any luck, I should be back to normal by Sunday? If not, then I have to go to physical therapy. Anyway, it wasn't blood sugar, allergy meds or caffeine. I'm still off caffeine incidentally. Maybe I'll take break from it. Anyway, Wade is still shaking his head at my antics.

Oh crap, vertigo! I'm impressed you're able to lift when that's bothering you. My dad had that happen a few times and he was down and out for the day. Is there something that triggers it or does it just kinda happen sometimes?

I had a bad case of vertigo that came out of nowhere, when it first hit me, I couldn't get out of bed for several days! After that first episode, it has came and went, and each time it wasn't as bad as the first time. I went to a doc, who did all kinds of tests, then sent me to a therapist. Once that was ruled out my doc said it was allergy related and told me to take Allegra D whenever it came on. Now I still get it off and on, but it is very slight and manageable now, I might feel it in the am, but it goes away.. I can function. But when it first hit me, at around age 50, it was brutal!

I'm actually pretty impressed myself. And glad I didn't go for 93% of max singles in squat. I think most people get triggered somehow (blow to the head, etc.?) but I don't remember anything specific, except one day I woke up dizzy, and then day tried to do decline which totally threw me into hell. I wasn't pleased to hear this happens more in older people. WTF?

Weird. Mine is pretty much the mechanics of that crystal bumping into all my brain sensors. Allergy pills didn't make a difference really either way, coffee seemed to exacerbate it but probably because the caffeine added to my anxiety at the world not staying still LOL

Vertigo. You should watch the Hitchcock film, apparently it's good.

Probably a wise move not to squat. With benching the worst that happens is you crush yourself a little with the bar (and I don't think 123 would kill you). With squatting, you could break your back or some chit. Congrats on bench pr btw. I would love to hit 123 (or 125... sigh, someday, been stuck at 115 since before my cut).

You had a Dix-Hallpike test which is used to diagnose BPPV. You'll have a weird horizontal nystagmus (pupils shaking left to right) at the end of the maneuver because your vestibular system (ears and brain, balance system) gets confused and your eyes try to compensate to what the hell is going on.

The Epley maneuver is used to treat it along with more regular Brandt-Daroff exercises. They happen for no particular reason but the cause is believed to be otoliths (small ear stones) floating around in your semicircular canals in the ear making your brain think you're traveling in different axes than your eyes think you are. If it goes away, which it often does, you should be okay but you might get it again in the future - I'm surprised you actually had a nystagmus though.

There's some drugs that are sometimes prescribed like cyclizine, betahistine etc. that can help with symptoms but BPPV lasts for seconds so I assume you aren't encountering your symptoms very frequently.

Came in to see vertigo. Ugh Feel better soon!

I had it chronically for 4 years. Vertigo is awful. I had several full-blown attacks, where my body went into emergency crisis mode and took power away from my limbs to protect my core, so I'd just collapse on the floor. I had the nystagmus, eyes rolling around uncontrollably, that was loads of fun. Hard core motion sickness and puking. Do not recommend/10. Outside of those couple of major attacks, I spent most of those four years just perpetually on the edge of motion sickness even when sitting still. My brain was utterly fukked up. If I was watching tv and the camera would pan to the left, I'd literally fall out of my seat to the right. If I was out somewhere, like at a grocery store, and the tiles on the floor would change colors, my brain would try to have me step up or down when the color changed, so I spent a lot of time stumbling around like a drunk in public. There were lots of weird things going on, my brain just could not figure out which end was up.

Anyway. Mine was not BPPV, no crystals, so unfortunately Epley didn't help me in the slightest. Mine was a symptom of my (at the time undiagnosed) celiac disease. The funny thing is, all these years later, if I do accidentally get into gluten, I still get dizziness / instability as one of my symptoms.

Fun fact: 1 out of every 3 people will get vertigo at some point in their lives. For most people, the cause is a virus that settles in their inner ear, and lasts a matter of days or a few weeks at worst.

    That's what I thought

That is a lot of good information

Ahhhh crap. Where do I start? After vertigo, I pretty much started over the following week. Got my bench and squats in the week of Thanksgiving, and then I skipped Turkey day thinking I would have the weekend to get it done. But then we had a Thanksgiving guest that showed up wasted and then proceeded to roughhouse my big pup. So that night my pup wouldn't get on the bed or sleep, so neither did I. Next day I didn't get up in the morning, so I took my gym bag to work with me, but my dog wouldn't stop crying and refused to walk, so instead of going to the gym, I drove him 45 minutes away to the only open vet clinic in the area. For the next 5 nights I wasn't getting sleep and was working 10+ hour days. I skipped decline and did deadlift but feeling super exhausted overall.

Did my bench day again, and then had another setback with the pup, another 45 minute drive to the vet. After another crap sleepless night I wake up with a sore throat. Another couple of nights of sleeplessness because of the throat and body aches, and then the runny nose started. Fortunately, that was done by Saturday. I still have a cough and I have my fingers crossed that this was my only virus of the season. Good luck with that, right?

So, I once again started a new week with bench yesterday. Pup is finally better, but has to be on a diet. Basically, the back injury that the drunk jackass caused him brought some knee issues to our attention, and I'm going to try really hard to rehab his knees over the next 6+ months so he doesn't need surgery. Fingers crossed. I did squat today and had my first squat miss on the safeties. Go me. I miss two squat days in the last 3 weeks and I forget how to squat. Anyway, I am bound a determined to get all my workouts in this week even if I don't finish them. I've pretty much worked every single day since November 15 plus had to coordinate a surprise office move the week of Thanksgiving and then moved last week. What a mess. my next day off is Monday. Please little baby Jesus, please let me have a day off. I just don't have enough hours in the day. every single day I run out of time.

Okay, I'm done whining. It's been a rough few weeks, to the point where I have not even wanted to prioritize lifting. Heck, my eating habits are lacking. Most days lately I have only gotten one meal in. Starting today I am making a concerted effort to get all three meals in and actually drink water. I've also only had coffee twice since vertigo and its finally not making me feel crazy. Hoping that now my assistant is mostly trained and the office is moved, things will calm down a bit before the holiday craziness.

Hope you guys are all doing awesome!

Whooooa all that and weaning off coffee, too?

Good luck with the dog. I have enough trouble with my one crappy human body I'm in charge of, so I can't even imagine.

Ditching during a squat is a time-honored tradition and frankly given your calorie deficit recently isn't surprising. At least it means you're pushing yourself and now you know where your sticking point is (wherever you had to ditch).

Hope you can get back in the swing of things and have some time to relax over the holidays.

Heh, that wasn;t even a weaning, it was a cold turkey because it seemed to exacerbate the vertigo, even after I thought I was better. That was probably only because I wasn't quite 100% better but now I seem to be

I have no clue if I'm in a deficit or not. I stopped losing so probably not I can overeat on IF LOL

As Wade put it "That squat was so loose, it was two separate movements" I also think if I ground it out I would have gotten it, but I'm tired.

I'm hoping for a mostly slower couple of weeks, but it's balls to the wall the 26th - 31st.

My bad 100% - He's 80+ pounds so I didn't think much of it. He never yelped or ran away from her. I did ntice he wasn't reciprocating after a while but he was also concerned with table scraps possibly being dropped. I'm pissed though and that person isn't welcome in my house again.

I hope so too! Double ccl if they rupture which they only have partial tears right now. I can't blame the drunk for those, only myself for loving him into obesity I'm on the program now because I know he doesn't want to have surgery and I don't want to pay the $5500 it would cost!

Well good luck with the diet. I'm battling between trying to keep weight on my one which is going well but is difficult when I'm trying to get the other one to lose weight due to the added stress to her spine. She'll try to steal the food I'm trying to give him...and you would think she is starving to death based on the way she acts. She barely even lost 0.8 lbs and she is acting like she is dying. She is a bit melodramatic though.
