Comments: I’m very sorry for my absence lately. Work and life have just been busy on an insane level. I’m hoping to check in with everyone in the coming days. Starting this cycle with reps of 10.

Box Squat: Throwing in some touch and go reps with these sets. I’m trying to work back toward doing regular squats with minimal hip/back pain. Approximately half of the reps in these sets were T&G. We just aerated and overseeded our yard this weekend so I’m moving a sprinkler around between sets. These sets felt nice and strong.

OHP/Pull-ups: These felt strong, but again, took way longer due to moving the sprinkler around.

Accessory: You can tell I was done with the sprinklers at this point.

Intervals/Sprints: Cut the rounds in half as I was out of time. Definitely dripping sweat though.

Alright, have a good day folks!
Bumping this over for ya Trent.

I see we both reloaded last week.

Sorry to hear life has been so hectic.

Good volume on this session. With good numbers across the board.

At least your team got a win yesterday. The Falcons are a dumpster fire right now.

I can’t believe the Saints beat the Cowboys with Bridgewater. Wtf is going on! LoL

Ha ha, thanks brother. Yeah, who would have thought that switching to literally any quarterback that throws the ball with accuracy would have been an improvement? Yeah, the Saints are just pissing me off with that stuff...

    Time: 8:10

    Conditioning: Metcon

    2 rounds for time of:
    400 meter run
15 clean and jerks, 30 lb dumbbells

    Time: 8:15

Comments: Day numero dos this week. Lower back is a little sore from yesterday.

Hex Deads: These sets felt fine but man, that last one sucked. Nothing can really prepare you for high rep sets of deads. Especially in the morning.

    Bench: These felt fine.

Landmines: Did these with two arms and kept the weight unchanged. I might start to do that with the higher rep sets. Just pick the average weight that I would have done and go with that. It saves time adding plates.

Accessory: Good combo of movements. The AMRAP sets are always a nice pump. First time doing weighted back extensions in a long time.

Metcon: Wanted to do a third round but ran out of time. This was still pretty tough.

Hope you all have a good day!

Good workout Trent. 10 rep deadlifts are definitely tough. Nice job knocking them out, especially early in the morning.

Accessory work and the metcon were both impressive as well. Nice way to get the sweat rolling.

Thanks Shane. Yeah, I hope to start going heavier again this winter. The high reppers are getting old.

    Conditioning: Metcon

    “Saved by the Barbell”

3 rounds for max reps of:
    1 minute of burpees
1 minute of wall-ball shots (sub 20 lb plate G2OHs)
1 minute of deadlifts, 95 lb
    1 minute of med-ball sit-ups (20 lb plate)
1 minute of hang power cleans, 95 lb
    Rest 1 minute

    Post total reps: 350

    Round 1: 20+27+22+20+15 = 104
    Round 2: 22+27+25+22+19 = 115
    Round 3: 23+32+30+25+21 = 131

Comments: Didn’t sleep well last night. Our son woke us up twice between 2:00AM – 5:00AM. Still out here and planning to get some conditioning in. This one looks like it is going to suck mightily…

Metcon: That was pretty fun. There was so much going on that I forgot that it sucked. The wall balls and situps were kind of a break. My goal was to keep increasing the reps per round. It was not easy. Ha ha…

    Have a good one folks!

Way to make lemonade out of lemons with that metcon Trent! It definitely looks like a good one...sounds tough on little sleep though.

    10/3/19:

Conditioning: Distance Run. Outdoor, Paved and Rugged Trail. HOT
    4.75 miles. 43:00, 9:03 Pace, 598 Calories

Comments: I decided to stop in at Lake Johnson yesterday evening for (hopefully) the last hot run of the year. The heat index was 103 for this. Luckily, most of that trail is shaded so that makes a world of difference. It was still hot though and after about two miles I started feeling a little woozy. By the end, I couldn't have been happier to get in my car and crank the AC. Got it done and hopefully the next run, in cooler weather will be a lot easier because of it.

Looking good Trent. This morning was literally 25 degrees cooler than last Saturday, so I suspect that cooler weather is headed your way too

    4 Rounds:
    15 Burpees
    200 Meter Jog

Comments: Chasing sprinklers around between sets this morning.

Box Squat: Again this week, I did the first half of the reps sitting onto the bench, the second half were T&G. Honestly, I think that the T&G reps are better on my knees. Did a few sets shoeless after taking off my muddy shoes from moving the sprinklers.

Hex Deads: Should have gone heavier on these. The last set was the only one that hurt. Still, can’t beat knocking out squats and deads on the first day of the week!

    OHP: Felt strong on these.

    Pull-ups: Strong here too.

Accessory: Definitely sweating out here now.

Intervals/Sprints: Man, that was a rough way to end the session. Got it done though.

Only bench and rows left to do tomorrow. Have a good day folks!

Comments: Trying to go ahead and finish off my lifting for the week this morning. Later this morning, I have to fly to Baltimore for two days of intense manual labor (like I used to do a few years ago). I’m not excited at all about having to do this, as I have been trying to move away from it for a long time now. It is just too taxing on my body. You know you are killing it when guys that do construction every day think you are super-human… Anyway, I’m really hoping this will be a rare occurrence.

CGBP: Decided to start reintroducing variations again. This week, I thought the 6 rep range would be good for CGBP.

Landmines: I would really like to change this up a little but am not sure what to do. I would do regular rows at a much lower weight as that’s all my back can handle nowadays. I need to get in the gym…

Accessory: That was a good accessory session. Descending reps of CGBP and ascending reps of landmines.

Metcon: Ran out of time. I will try to do something at the hotel but it would probably be smarter if I saved my energy.

    Have a good day folks!

Couple of nice workouts Trent. Try not to kill yourself out their doing manual labor. We are getting to old for that sh@t.

For a row variation it sounds like you need some sort of dumbbell or possibly a cable set up. Sounds like a good Christmas gift to yourself.

Thanks Shane. I'd love to do some dumbbell rows. Need to get one of those adjustable sets. As for the manual labor, it was intense, but I survived, sore back and all...

    Morning Session at home:

    Box Squat
Work up to a heavy set of 4-1 reps.
    10x135
    8x165
    6x185
    4x205
    4x225
    3x245
    2x265

    Time: 17:30

    Hex Bar Deadlifts
Work up to a heavy set of 4-1 reps.
    10x165
    8x185
    6x205
    4x225
    4x245
    4x265
    3x285

    Time: 16:00

Comments: It’s officially heavy week. I might be making a mistake by doing this this week, after a pretty long week physically last week. My back and knees were sore after two days of manual labor. I typically skip the accessory work on heavy week as I don’t have the time after the long-than-usual strength sessions.

Box Squat: Again, these were half seated and half T&G. Worked up to a double at 265 and had a single in the tank higher than that.

Hex Deads: These went up fine. Had more in the tank but decided to stop at 285 due to time and just being conservative with a sore back.

Alright, I’ll try to get in some more work at lunchtime today and I will try to catch up in the journals in the coming days. Have a good day!

    Afternoon Session at the YMCA:

    Dumbbell Military Press
Work up to a heavy set of 4-1 reps.
    10x40
    8x50
    6x55
    4x60
    3x65

    Time: 12:20

    DB Rows (Bench Supported, One-Arm)
Work up to a heavy set of 4-1 reps.
    10x60
    8x70
    6x80
    4x90
    4x100

    Time: 6:30

    Conditioning: Intervals/Sprints
    4 Rounds:
    500 Meter Row
    400 Meter Jog

    Post rowing splits: 1:52, 1:54, 1:58, 1:55

    Comments:

DB Military Press: Haven't done these in probably 6 months or so. That was a pretty good showing. May have had a rep or two at 70 but probably couldn't get them up on my own.

DB Rows: Finally, a variation! Enjoyed these. Could have gone higher but the dumbbells stopped at 100 lbs.

Intervals/Sprints: Haven't done any rowing in a while either and it didn't disappoint. I would row my 500 meters and then get right up and run around the indoor track. I was struggling during these. Ha ha...

Alright, got a lot of work in today after all. I miss going to the gym during lunch. Going to have to start doing that again more. Hope you all had a good day!

    Conditioning: Metcon
4 rounds for time, alternating arms each round, of:
    10 single-arm hang power snatches
    8 single-arm rows
    6 single-arm push presses
    4 single-arm power snatches

    40 lb dumbbell

    Time: 7:15

Comments: Heavy day number two this morning. Bench and weighted pull-ups coming up.

Bench: Felt pretty weak on these. Must be one of those weeks… Definitely had another rep in the tank at 215 but didn’t want to chance it.

Pull-ups: Wasn’t feeling overly strong here either. It may have been the double header yesterday and the variations at the gym. Oh well…

Metcon: This was a lot harder than it looked. Wore the arms and upper body out for sure. Got it done though.

Alright, off to work. Have a good day folks!

That is a lot of work in 2 days Trent. Nice squats and deads. That was a heck of a workout on its own. Double up session at the Y, double the awesome.

Agree with you on those DB military presses. Those are strong numbers. Good to see those DB rows in there for some variety. I know those had to feel good! Tell the Y they need to get you heavier DBs!

Good looking upper workout today with those heavy bench and heavy pull ups. Yeah that metcon looks like it would definitely wear the arms out.

    Conditioning: Metcon

    4 Rounds:
    20 Alternating Lunges
20 Alternating DB Overhead Press, 30 lb
    20 Strict Pull-ups
    20 Push-ups

    Post time: 18:35

Comments: Borrowed this one from Crossfit and changed it up a little. It looks challenging. Haven’t done lunges in a long time. Hopefully that doesn’t hurt my foot.

Metcon: Good stuff. I had to adjust my form on the lunges to keep from hurting my foot. This was a good, somewhat different metcon to what I’ve been doing. I was changing the temperature of the water heater in between sets too.

    Have a good day folks!

    10/19/19:

    Conditioning: Distance Run. Outdoor, Paved.
    5.25 Miles, 44:53, 8:32 Pace, 659 Calories

Comments: This run was a struggle. Not sure if I had a touch of something or what but that was rough. I was one minute slower than the previous week, but still got it done. I met my wife and daughter at the church again for soccer and that was the last game of the season so it will be a different route from here on out on Saturday morning.

Comments: The weekend was pretty stressful so I am not terribly motivated this morning, but am out here anyway.

Hex Deads: These felt fine until the last set. Good programming.

Box Squat: These felt good too. No knee pain and the last set was nice and challenging.

OHP: Had some wrist pain with these. It happens…

Pull-ups: Changed the grip to add difficulty instead of adding weight.

Accessory: This wasn’t too bad. Threw some 200’s in there to combine intervals and accessory. That was just a lot of lifting beforehand so I had to cut this stuff short.

Planning to hit the Y tomorrow at lunchtime. Have a good one folks!

3 good looking workouts Trent. I am always impressed when you superset squats and deads. Tough sets there. Nice way to knock out a workout when you are not motivated to be out there. Hopefully this week is less stressful than last.

    Have a good week!

Thanks Shane. Yeah, supersetting squats and deads really isn't smart IMO. And honestly, I don't even think that it saves much time, if any. It does suck though.

    10 SLDL, 50 lb dumbbells

    Time: 9:30

One set of bar dips for max reps: 20

Comments: I actually went to the Y this afternoon with one of my coworkers and that was probably the first time in almost two decades that I've worked out with somebody else. It was awesome to have someone else along, but I have to admit it was a little strange as I'm so used to moving around really quickly and am not used to waiting on people or talking to them to figure things out. That really taught me that I need to get better at doing that in general. Usually we just alternated between stations and still finished everything in good time. Good stuff.
