    Conditioning: Distance Run. Outdoor, Paved.
    7.0 Miles, 1:04:06, 9:09 Pace, 885 Calories

Comments: A very rare afternoon run. Man, I hit the wall around mile three and managed to come out of it by about mile five. That was still tough. I’d like to be up to about a 15K before the brutal heat settles in. It was in the upper 70’s for this so that was rather pleasant. Planning to take the weekend off except for maybe some yard work.

    Have a good weekend!

Sounds like you had a good run today Trent. Way to go working through the wall like that.

Btw you've made me jealous...I'm going to have to do a trail run this weekend.
If in doubt, squat and run hills. So you walk into the gym and don't know what to do? Then squat and run hills. Have a miserable day at work and want to break someone's neck but aren't sure who's? Then squat and run hills. - Wendler

I hate walls. And for once, I'm jealous of your weather! (I'm also jealous of your ability to run, but that's another story). We'll warm up next week. Good going to be able to keep up on the grind for two miles before hitting your second wind. I don't think I ever had that much fortitude.
I'm out, standing in my field.

Ha ha, I think we're going back to cool and rainy in a few days so don't worry... Yeah, I don't know if I'd call it a "second wind". It's probably more that I got used to the pain...

Hey there Greg. Sorry for my absence this week. It has been insanely hectic at home and at work this week. This was a scheduled rest week for me as I went at it for 6 hard weeks in a row leading up to it. I am concerned about the apparent injury to my left lat as the last week or two of my cycle, whenever I did any type of back/pull lift, I was left in a lot of pain and barely able to breathe for a day afterwards. There is significant pain and swelling inside of my left shoulder blade. I have discomfort in that area, under my armpit and in my left pectoral. Sometimes there is the sensation of "a rod going through my chest." It sucks. While it has felt a little better with rest, it is still not "healed." I would like to go to the doctor about it, but don't really want to risk catching the corona, so I'm not sure what to do... I may still plan to start back with a deload week next week and see if it gets any better. I had the same thing about 5 years ago and it eventually went away. But it was a huge PITA while it lasted.

Sorry for all the information. Sometimes I'm just trying to summarize it in my head so I type it all out. Hope you've been having a good week. I will try to check in ASAP. Stay after it!

Damn Trent. Sounds like a good time for a rest week. I don't blame you for not wanting to go to the dr for your issue. Maybe another week of rest will get you feeling back to yourself.

Thanks Shane. Yeah, this is pretty bizarre. I still may do a deload week this coming week just to see how things go. I'm not sure if its pollen or the corona, but now I've got some slight throat and upper respiratory irritation going on. Could be the pollen or maybe some dust from work (or the work on our house). Going to give it a few days...

    5.40 Miles, 47:10, 8:44 Pace, 678 Calories

Comments: Most people probably wouldn’t run if they had what I had going on. Went for it anyway and I’m glad I did. After the initial “hump” of about 2 miles I got into stride and really felt great. Perfect weather too with sunshine and 60 degrees. I easily had another mile or two in the tank but needed to get home.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

    Deloadish Session

    Box Squat
    10x135
    8x165
    6x185
    4x205

    Time: 7:30

    (Superset)
    Bench
    10x135
    8x155
    6x175
    4x195

    Ring Rows
    8xBW
    8xBW
    8xBW
    8xBW

    Time: 9:36

    Accessory
    4 Rounds:
    8 CGBP, 115 lb
16 Alternating DB Rows, 40 lb
    10 Goblet Squats, 40 lb
    8 Knees to Elbows

    Time: 7:55

    Conditioning: Intervals/Sprints
    3 Rounds:
    20 KB Swings, 40 lb: 0:33, 0:32, 0:29
    200 Meter Jog, 12% Incline: 1:12, 1:02, 1:00

Comments: Well, I am about halfway torn between wanting to jump back into it and wanting to a deload session so I think I’ll meet and the middle. I’ll work up to some moderately heavy sets and do a little bit lighter versions of the usual accessory and conditioning. I worked my tail off all weekend on the house so I’m pretty sore from that.

Box Squat: Got ‘em done. Sore back and all…

Bench/Rows: Got ‘em done. Sore elbow, back, pec and all…

    Accessory: Done.

Intervals/Sprints: Boy those uphill jogs were way harder than the KB swings.

“Quarantinisms I”- It’s funny, I used to watch ESPN while working out in the morning, but now that there’s no sports, I just listen to music. Speaking of which, I saw video games being played on ESPN last night (before quickly switching channels) and thought that this may indeed be the end of the world.

Great job on your run Trent.

Nice looking deload workout. It’s hard to know when to deload but generally I have heard by the time you feel like you need one you waited to long to take one.

Yeah, ESPN has been interesting. I saw them throwing axes on there yesterday and playing old basketball and football games.

    Strange times for sure.

Ha ha. What if you always feel like you need a deload?

Yeah, my office is located in "the bar district" of downtown Raleigh and on the last Friday before the quarantine, my coworkers and I went to lunch at an axe throwing bar. I have to say that that was one of the most fun times in recent memory. Not easy to do and it doesn't get much better than drinking beers and throwing axes...

Good looking deload workout and run Trent. I'm waiting for the weather to improve here so I can get one in...you've been making me jealous.

Yeah that video game thing is crazy. My company makes broadcast video equipment used in live sports telecasts. With no live sports that's kind of dried up. The live video games people buy our equipment though, and apparently that's the wave of the future. I don't watch them, but I'm glad they have money to spend. It seems like it's a huge business.

They have one of those axe throwing bars near where I live...I'll have to go check it out. What can go wrong with alcohol and axes?

Yeah, my office is located in "the bar district" of downtown Raleigh and on the last Friday before the quarantine, my coworkers and I went to lunch at an axe throwing bar. I have to say that that was one of the most fun times in recent memory. Not easy to do and it doesn't get much better than drinking beers and throwing axes...
Man, if I could do that during a quarantine I'd be set! I didn't know axe throwing bars were even a thing.

Also, that's a pretty challenging looking deload. I've been interspersing music from my playlist while I work out to you tubes of old boxing matches, indy car races, gardening advice, pottery making, and historical trivia. It does make the time go by.
I'm out, standing in my field.

Thanks Greg. Sorry it has been so rainy there. It seems like it may have finally let up here after almost an entire winter of rain several days per week. Sounds like you guys make some cool equipment at work. Yeah, I'm not a big video game guy myself. It seems that I just barely missed that generation. but could just never see the fun in sitting inside all day and letting my fun be something computer-generated. Glad that is a source of revenue for your company though, especially since sports have been put on pause lately.

Thank you my friend. The intent of that session was to be slightly lighter than a regular session. I'm trying to stay on the conditioning pretty good right now to keep losing weight so no slacking in that department. Sounds good on the workout entertainment. Since switching to youtube tv I have stumbled upon some great old boxing matches and really enjoy those. The other stuff you mention sounds great too. It never hurts to have helpful stuff playing in the background so you can get two birds with one stone.

Thanks Ron. I used to do that rep scheme all the time 20 years ago. It probably isn't that useful for building strength or muscle, but it is pretty balanced and manageable. I thought it would be good for a "delaodish" session. Yep, I was digging watching spring training very briefly until they pulled the plug. I may comment about sport on today's "Quarantinism."

    10 squats
9 dumbbell snatches, right arm, 40 lb
    10 push-ups
9 dumbbell snatches, left arm, 40 lb

    Post rounds completed: 5

Comments: Lower back is still pretty sore from the house work this weekend. Hopefully some deads don’t screw it up…

Hex Deads: Took considerable time between sets as I was responding to work emails. Felt very strong on these.

OHP/PU: Felt strong on these too.

    Accessory: Good sets.

Metcon: That was a hard-fought ten minutes. No breaks whatsoever and I’m dripping sweat now. I’ve noticed that crossfit has been listing a lot more “at home friendly” metcons lately, due to the virus. That’s good for people like me who mine their site for that type of metcon.

“Quarantinism II:” As the days turned into weeks and the weeks now likely turning into months, it has hit me, as it has many of you, that sports are such a huge part of my life. I will watch almost any sport, even if I’ve never played it. Perhaps it stems from many of the same qualities that lead us to push ourselves in athletic endeavors and training. One of the greatest things in this world to me is to watch the result of people training hard, practicing hard and competing to the best of their ability. In the last week or so, the thought has crossed my mind several times of, “what will I do when I see my first, live, televised sporting event again for the first time after this passes?” I think I might stand up and give the TV a standing ovation. It could be women’s softball, but those ladies will be getting a standing ovation from me.

Nice work Trent. The big disappointment for me this whole time is my son's spring baseball season was postponed. He is a baseball nut and shows a lot of promise.

Thanks man. Yeah, that would be really tough as a kid. Hopefully he is able to get some practice in while not at school. Fortunately for us, at this time, we aren't really big social butterflies and don't travel that much, so other than my daughter's preschool getting cancelled and a few trips to the park now and then, almost nothing has changed for us. The only stores we really went to before this started were the grocery store and Lowe's. The biggest difference for us is that we don't let our daughter play closely with the neighbor's kids and there is far less stuff to watch on TV.

    Rest Day
    Warm-up: Stretching

Conditioning: Uphill Treadmill Walk – 12% Incline
    500 Calories, 32:51, 2.06 Miles, 1,343’ Elevation Gain

Comments: Woke up very tired this morning, despite sleeping well. Had a pretty good workout yesterday morning and ended up walking over 5 miles yesterday so maybe that had something to do with it. Going to do some stretching and hit the treadmill.

Treadmill: Did 200 meter sprint/200 meter walk for the first mile. Ended up going for an even 500 calories again. Did the last 500 meters at 15% incline and good Lord is that a hell of a difference. Got it done. Off to work.

    Have a good day!

Good looking workout yesterday Trent. Nice job on the hex deads...those are such a great exercise. Nice job on that metcon too. 5 rounds of that after already having done the 4 rounds of accessories sounds touhg to me. No wonder you were sweating.

I'm looking forward to live sports coming back too. I've been watching re-run sports on TV. That starts off interesting at first, but it doesn't have the same excitement as something just now happening.

Thanks Greg. Yeah, that was a tough session. It feels good to get some sweating in again. Ha ha... Man, sports needs to come back. That's all there is to it. The re-runs are not as exciting as live sports either. No doubt about it.

    Conditioning: Metcon
    4 Rounds for time of:
    400 Meter Run (3% Incline)
    3 Rope Climbs (Sub 15 Pull-ups)
    50 Push-ups

    Post time: 25:15

Comments: Sort of made this one up from another, much longer metcon. It looks interesting.

Metcon: That took a while because of the push-ups. It’s just hard to get through those quickly. Good upper body pump though. 3% incline on the treadmill seems like going downhill after jogging and walking at 12% for a while now.

We're all doing well. I've working from home for over a year, and now my son is home doing his schoolwork remotely, so we're just hanging out every day as a family, each doing our own thing. Not much has changed for us. We never did really like socializing anyway. LOL

Solid deload workout and treadmill work. That’s a lot of miles on the treadmill.

Also impressive is the rope climbs.

I hear you on sports. It sucks not watching baseball right now. I really miss the ballpark.

Sounds like things are going well there. I here you. We don't do a lot of socializing either honestly. My wife and I have been joking this whole time that other than taking the kids to the park and out to eat here and there, almost nothing has changed for us.

Thanks Shane. Yeah, I subbed pull-ups for rope climbs. If I ever get a rope I'll be sure and video it for the comedic enjoyment of all of you. Yeah, I would love to watch some baseball right now... It's also really weird that the Masters isn't on.

    Conditioning: Distance Run. Outdoor, Paved
    15K (9.3 Miles), 1:23:36 (PR by 3:49 over 2/17/18), 8:59 Pace, 1,200 Calories

Comments: Well, in typical NC fashion, we went from summer back to winter in about 24 hours. 85 degrees to 35 degrees. Looks like the temp is in the low 50’s for this run. I’m going to try to go pretty long so we’ll see how it goes.

Run: My goal was to work up to this distance prior to the arrival of the summer heat. I’m glad to have already gotten here and am not sure if I want to push it much further than this as it is such a beating on my knees, hips, ankles, soul, etc. Ha ha… We shall see. Very happy to get a PR over my last attempt and this was the longest run I’ve done in over two years. Thinking back to this time last year I never thought I’d be able to run again so this is a great feeling and I’m truly thankful to be able to keep pounding the pavement.

Hope you all have a great Easter weekend! He is risen!

Impressive run! I know what you mean about the temperature changes. Both too hot and too cold make the whole thing more difficult. I know my knees and shins wouldn't take that kind of punishment. Enjoy it, but don't wear it out!
I'm out, standing in my field.

    64 and still a newbie.
