    Conditioning: Metcon

Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of:
    10 pull-ups
    20 push-ups
    30 foot walking lunge

    Post rounds completed: 10

Comments: In addition to the two-mile treadmill walk yesterday, my phone said I put in another 5 miles of walking, so that’s good for the weight loss. The crossfit metcons have been really boring ever since the Covid 19 started. I guess they are programming for everyone to do them from home so it is the same basic stuff over and over again. I’m really digging deep on these right now.

Metcon: That wasn’t too bad. It was sort of Murph prep-ish. The walking lunges were a nice break from the pull-ups and push-ups. Got the sweat flowing so mission accomplished. I’ll be carrying stuff around three different roof tops today at work so that should provide additional conditioning.

    Have a good day!

Solid metcon Trent. That definitely reads like a tough one. 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, and 300 lunges in 20 minutes would kick my butt.

    Careful on those rooftops today!

Ha ha, thanks Ron. Yeah, reps of 12 are pretty much like a metcon. Better throw and actual metcon in for good measure though.

    Conditioning: Distance Run. Outdoor, Paved.
    5 Miles, 45:00, 8:59 Pace, 628 Calories

Comments: Had to finish off the cycle with a decent run. Fortunately, it was cloudy and 70 degrees so I was able to maintain a pretty good pace. Honestly, looking back at my splits, my pace improved over the course of this run. I was thinking of Shane and Greg though as my knees and hips were hurting and I kept thinking to myself, “how long can I keep this up?” Only time will tell…

Well, that’s it for this cycle. We leave for the beach tomorrow. I’ll try to get my annual “5K run on the beach in at some point this coming week. Hope you all have a great weekend!

I miss the beach! But running 5k on the beach is like running 10k anywhere else, isn't it? Breathe deep, stay away from everyone, and have fun!

If in doubt, squat and run hills. So you walk into the gym and don't know what to do? Then squat and run hills. Have a miserable day at work and want to break someone's neck but aren't sure who's? Then squat and run hills. - Wendler

Thanks gents. That was probably one of the best vacations we've ever had. It wasn't free of frustration, but we overcame those moments and had a great time. It also helps that we had some great weather. I never got to that run but was very fortunate to be able to surf probably over 10 hours in some bigger than usual surf for this time of year.

    Time: 8:40

    Conditioning: Intervals/Sprints
    3 Rounds:
    10 Burpees
    400 Meter Jog

Comments: Still pretty exhausted from a week of fun in the sun and sleeping like crap in that old rickety bed with a baby waking up every few hours most nights. I made the very smart decision of taking today off from work to get back in the swing of things at home. Out here for a deload session and have the garage door open for a change. The temp is a little over 80 degrees but it is very humid.

Box Squats: These felt good. Just the usual knee pain. Lol.

Bench: Good sets. All paused reps.

Landmines: Haven’t done these in a while so I threw them back in.

Accessory: Definitely dripping sweat now in the 82 degrees and 1,000% humidity.

Burpees/Jog: Burpee splits were around 25 seconds. Run splits were about 2:20. It’s hot.

This vacation really solidified the fact that we need to relocate back to the beach and we will be prayerfully looking into that from here on. Hopefully, that can become a reality in the somewhat near future. In the mean time, its good to be back and I will try to get caught up in the journals ASAP. Have a great day folks!

Welcome back Trent. You had me jealous with all those beautiful beach pictures. It is funny, like you, every time I come back from the beach I feel like I need to live closer to the ocean. It does have a way of drawing us to it.

Nice deload session there. You still moved some good weights.

Surfing is a blast! It's one of those things I can enjoy intensely while remaining totally talent-free. I feel drawn to a nice coastline myself, but then I feel drawn to the desert as well.I think that's whey so many people like the West coast.

Good job doing that workout in the sweltering humidity. It's not for the faint of heart. Literally! And I hope the rest of your day was restful and relaxing!

Nice deload session there. You still moved some good weights.
Thanks Shane. I lived at Wrightsville Beach/Wilmington for a long time and that is still my favorite place. I'm a high-strung guy and I need regular, daily exposure to a calming environment. It just helps me unwind. Surfing is my favorite hobby and I'd love to completely immerse myself into sailing/boating/diving, etc. as well. Hopefully we can figure out how to make it happen.

Good job doing that workout in the sweltering humidity. It's not for the faint of heart. Literally! And I hope the rest of your day was restful and relaxing!
Ha ha, that's how I feel about golf. There are things about surfing that make it unique to any other sport I ever tried.

    1. It is dependent on timing and conditions which are constantly changing. You can go a month without surfing because there is nothing to surf, and then all of a sudden it pops up and you are having a blast for a week straight. Also, swell direction, wind, tides and coastal direction all come into play on each swell so you have to figure out the best time and place to go out.

    2. You are "one with nature," so to speak. Similar to hiking, etc.

    3. Perhaps not so much with a point break, but when surfing a beach break (almost the entire East Coast), each wave breaks differently and that forces you into a state of constantly reacting with almost no time to think. That carries over into many areas of life.

    4. Different swell sizes and conditions require different boards. Small waves = longer and/or more buoyant boards. Large waves = shorter and/or less buoyant boards. So you get to dive into selecting or even shaping boards of different shapes/sizes.

To me, nothing else comes close...

    Conditioning: Distance Run. Outdoor, Paved.
    5K, 26:55, 8:40 Pace, 389 Calories

Comments: OK, I’ll say it. Rest is important. I actually felt pretty good for the first half of that run, despite the RealFeel being 98 degrees. I tried out the Garmin Revu and have mixed feelings about it. The fitness tracking is good, but the interface is not that user-friendly and it really has limited capabilities with my iPhone. I’m very tempted to just return it and buy the Apple watch as I’m sure that is pretty seamless and will integrate well with the iPhone. I'm not sure what their return policy is, but for $400 I expect a hell of a lot.

Run: It was legitimately hot as hell and super humid for that one. Still, that was a decent pace for those conditions. Unfortunately, our lawn kid seems to have dipped out this weekend so I may have an hour+ of mowing right now. Good times… Hope you all have a great 4’th!

Nice pace Trent. Sorry to hear you dislike the Garmin. Did you download the Garmin App, and Garmin IQ app?

I use mine, Forerunner 235, to track fitness mostly and it alerts me to when phone has an alert. Text messages, or about anything my phone alerts me too. Other than that I use Garmin and Strava, mostly Garmin to track steps, workouts, etc.

The IQ app has different faces you can download to the watch and has Widgets you can put on the phone. I haven’t used any of the widgets but my phone face is customized to have specific things on it.

I have never used an Apple Watch. I am sure those are cool. Hopefully they take the Garmin back and you can get one you will be happy with.

I have a cousin like that. Moved to Hawaii for the waves. Stayed for the wife. He was kind of a hippie kid, no respect for "the man." Now he owns a surf shop, complains about those irresponsible young kids of today.
I'm out, standing in my field.

    64 and still a newbie.

Thanks Shane. After a day or two of getting used to it, I like it more, but am sure that the Apple watch is probably more user friendly. Still, that is a lot of money to part with and if I got the Apple watch, I would get the cellular version, and would have to add that to my company's cell phone plan (not sure of the cost). I'll have to talk to my boss and see what he thinks. It's like the Garmin does just enough to make me want a little more for a watch that does it all. It is cool though and, IMO, much better looking than the Apple watch.

Ha ha, it's amazing how life works. I used to complain about 'the man" but nowadays complain about the kids (albeit kids nowadays have reached another level of stupidity... ) We went out to Kauai and Oahu in 2011 and while the islands themselves are gorgeous, my wife and I were really taken aback at how rudely we were treated by the native Hawaiians. I get that they are upset that the US basically came out there and took their islands, but still, it wasn't me and my wife that did it. Anywho, I'll stop complaining and just say that if I have to choose between Hawaii and the Caribbean, I will take the Caribbean any day. (Also a shorter trip from NC)

Comments: Not as much sleep as I had hoped for last night. We grilled Saturday and Sunday evening and I have eaten about a full day’s worth of extra calories over those two days so I didn’t even bother weighing in this morning. I do have a long day of manual labor today though so hopefully that will help burn some of it off. This week is pretty busy so I am breaking stuff apart more to make it quicker. Basically, I’ll be doing three weight training sessions this week instead of the usual two. The same amount of work will be split among those sessions and I’m hoping that the total time tops out at 30 – 40 minutes. I may have to go to the doctor this week about the pain in my left shoulder. It hurt all last week and it was somewhat difficult to breathe. This has been going on for months now and it doesn’t seem to be improving. In addition, it seems like I have painful swollen lymph nodes in that entire area. It flares up for about a week and then it usually goes away for a week, etc. It is pretty aggravating.

Box Squat: These felt pretty good. As good as they can feel on a Monday morning following a long weekend of overeating and beer drinking…

OHP: These felt a little heavy but got them done.

    Pull-ups: These felt light.

Burpees/Walk: Well those hit like a ton of bricks. Got through them though.

    Have a good day folks!

Nice set of 10s Trent. I ate a bunch this weekend as well. I think it’s required on holidays.

Good job knocking out those burpees! You are a better man than I for that.

Good luck with the doctor this week.

Bench: Probably could have gone heavier. Good sets.

Ring Rows: Done. Landmine rows seem to aggravate my lat that has been giving me issues.

Accessory: This was a good combo. Good stuff.

    Metcon: Leg destroyer…

    Have a good day folks!

Nice set of 10s Trent. Accessory work was very solid as well. That metcon definitely looks like it would light your legs up.

Sounds like you had a great time on vacation...I liked the comment on how you're high strung and then I read your workouts and it shows that you like to keep moving. Solid work Trent!!

Glad you got some vacation time in there Trent, soak up that time with your kids, I can't believe how fast those days have come and gone for us.

I see you are still hammering out the big volume of work as usual with the added metcons.

Good luck at the Dr, keep us posted.

Ha ha, well, I don't know that I work out like this because I'm high strung. I just like to push it. I do get stressed in traffic and in the bustling life of the city though...

Thanks CPW. I did indeed enjoy that time. So far those years have flown by with my daughter but they seem to be dragging by with our son...

Comments: I was going to take today off, but got on the scale and saw that the weight has crept back up above 180, probably mostly due to eating more sodium the last several days, but either way, it’s time to burn some calories...

Strong lifts my brother... I see you also do 5K running. For today's workout, looks like you did some LISS exercise on the treadmill. Hope things continue to go well for you and look forward to seeing your continued progress.

Oh, yeah, those sets of 10 really do get the nutrients pumping through your muscles! Really is a good set of workouts, Trent.
I'm out, standing in my field.
