That guy was money, super reliable and it will suck if he departs.

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a one-year deal with former Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold
SUPERBOWL
This is a throwback to when genus reminded us he didn't understand basic cap math and thought the 49ers couldn't possibly afford Buckner

Fuking hope not. 49ers schedule next season has them flying an ass ton of miles. Don't need to add a trip to England on top of it(sorry)
Away games:
Washington
Pittsburgh
Philadelphia
Minnesota
LA
Jacksonville
Cleveland
Arizona
Seattle
Out of the 9 away games 4 are on the east coast and 2 more are Central time zone.

Also this "49ers are going to trade Lance" stuff drives me crazy.
Especially when people claim it should happen now or during the draft aka before Brock Purdy is 100% cleared and team can confirm he's back to the guy he was last season or they get a glimpse at what Darnold looks like in this offense.
It would be gross negligence by the franchise to trade Trey right now unless they got an absolute haul for him(which will not happen given their lack of leverage or Trey's limited snap count)
Hopefully they're not that stupid.

I agree, but if you do hang onto him for all of 2023--he's gonna lose a ton of trade value (assuming he doesn't play much). Part of the allure of Lance is the two regular years left on his rookie contract plus his potential 5th year option. If you wait until 2023 to deal him, he'll basically just have one year left--going off the belief no team would pick up that 5th year option not knowing what he is yet. It is much easier to build a great all-around roster when your QB is on a rookie deal (which you guys will have with Purdy too).

We lost our season due to not having a QB who can throw the ball. Say what you will about Trey Lance but he would've given us a chance to win that game.
Given how his career has played out so far if the 49ers are looking to trade him the value in return will be little anyways. They have 11 picks this year, none before the 99th overall selection. More picks with lower value isn't a need. They're likely looking at a bunch more comp picks next season as well.
I think if you're betting the odds are Trey improves his trade value even with the lost season than lowers it.
I think IF the 49ers trade Trey it would be in preseason or early in the season - this would be once they get a look at Darnold in their offense and have a better grasp of where Brock Purdy is health wise.
Honestly to me after how last year went...I'm not taking anything less than a first round pick for Trey right now and I don't see a way a team gives that up. Similar situation to why I felt we wouldn't trade Deebo last year. Simply put his value to us is greater than what another team would give us to make us make the trade.
I will say though if I'm wrong on this and the 49ers trade him before/during or right after the draft it will really make me question Kyle Shanahan. Because for us to make the move that we did 2 years ago and take Lance would scream we had no fuking clue what we were doing and have a very awful evaluation of QBs.
Lucking into Brock Purdy at the end of the 7th round is not something that corrects the awful evaluation on Lance if they move him. It's one thing to me if Brock simply proves to be a better player in our offense and Trey can't get the opportunity he needs to progress to his ultimate form so to speak, that happens. But to give up on the kid after 4 starts given the situation last year and current state of the QB room would be a HUGE red flag for me. We would all need to pray Purdy never gets hurt again and plays as well as he did last season moving forward. I would really question if Shanahan could ever get a QB pick right without lucking into it.
Cliff notes:
Please don't trade Trey until we know Brock is healthy and legit

I think you'd have beaten Phili with almost any QB that had a working throwing arm and legs that game. Johnson ended up getting hurt as well.
My team (Vikings) hasn't done anything to address the QBOTF and our pick is late this year (23rd) and we don't have a 2nd (Hockenson trade) or any 7ths, if I recall. Trading for somebody like Lance might be our only option of addressing it this offseason. That said, all we could offer is a 3rd, which wouldn't get anything done w/SF. Maybe it does next offseason, but that would be risky as Lance would be in his 4th year of his rookie contact and we wouldn't have **** for any other QB's under contract (Cousins is a FA after 2023, which I am thankful for. He isn't going to get our team anywhere of note.)Epic Beard Man crew

Well that draft was pretty underwhelming as expected. Hard to predict who you can really land given our first pick wasn't scheduled for 99.
I really liked the Brown pick at safety. He's a player a lot of people had us taking and hopefully it's one of those picks where the workout numbers drop a player but the tape shows he should've gone much earlier and his play in the NFL says he should've been long gone before our pick.
I'm sure as many of you I hated the kicker pick in the 3rd. I get the reason behind it, I just hate it. Pats taking a kicker just 12 or so picks after us made me feel better but he better turn into a pro bowl kicker for 10+ years for us. The track record for early drafted kickers hasn't been pretty, especially Aguyo or whatever his name was the Bucs drafted in teh 2nd few years ago. Dude was out of the league after his rookie season.
Latu pick with our 3rd 3rd rounder may have been my least favorite pick in the draft. I actually like Willis who we took in the 7th round better but hoping 49ers knew what they were doing.
Day 3 as usual seems to be where we do our best work. Of course we won't know that until 3-5 years from now but I think there is real potential for our Day 3 picks to make the team, be solid contributors and potential starters or key depth pieces down the road.
Loved the Luter, Winters and Willis picks. I think Luter has a chance to turn into a starter in time, Winters has a real shot to win the starting Sam job replacing Azeez and as mentioned I liked Willis better as TE2 than Latu. Kid is a terrific blocker.
There is also a lot of buzz about Joey Fisher an OLman we signed as an UDFA(Guess Kiper had us taking him at 99 in his mock draft) also two guys with potential to sneak onto the roster(i'd put money on PS tho) is Jack Colletto a dude who plays like 5 positions, including QB(could be our camp arm and team's answer for worst case scenario we saw last season) and Khalan Laborn who had injury/off field red flags push him down but he was the #1 RB recruit in his class out of HS so talent is definitely there.
For me the best part of the draft was we didn't trade Lance. I really want to see what he looks like in camp this year and with Purdy still recovering and Sam Darnold being Sam Darnold we better keep Lance around to see what he can do. Hopefully his competitive side shines and he comes in playing his best football and at minimum secures QB2 behind Brock if not taking back the QB1 spot.
Gonna be an interesting camp for sure. Lots of battles and roster decision for 53 man roster will be crazy tough.
Hopefully we avoid injuries(somethign we just can't seem to do) and keep the right guys on the roster and finally get over the hump. Need that W to close out the post season.

My thoughts as well. Niners never pick any of the guys i want so i kind of stopped getting my hopes up for certain players. I did want Tig Brown so that was nice to see.
Only thing that shocked me was the lack of OL picks. They must be really like the guys we have in house which i'm ok with i guess. Can't say the same about the tight end depth we had. Woemer and Dwelly got put on notice!!!LOL @ people who follow politics

i just want us to have 6 qb's so that debacle never happens again; lol, i know what are the chances.....?
thanks for the insights as usual guys. There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

I will be curious to see what happens with the proposed 3rd QB rule. I really hope they allow an emergency QB but I think there is a weird money $ thing related to it so it may be limited to PS QBs only.
Which of course creates dangers of someone taking your QB off the PS and really putting you in another Josh Johnson related situation.
Perfect world we're able to keep Purdy/Lance/Darnold on the active roster, Jack Colletto is able to show enough to make the active roster whether for special teams or something else and we manage to get Brandon Allen onto the PS.
This way we should be at least protected as much as possible from experiencing what we saw last season. If QB1/QB2 get hurt in another crazy game we'd hopefully have the ability to bring in Allen from the PS to play as the emergency guy assuming that rule passes and then if god truly hates us and even he gets hurt! Then Colletto would be able to at least give us a minimal chance to throw the ball.
Of course if we can just keep QB1 healthy and playing at a high level all season long that would be the preferred option.
