That's exactly what this is...camp body. He's got experience in this scheme and when he was here he played with a much weaker pass rush. Odds are he doesn't make the team anyways...much like Pita wasn't going to.
In fact I wouldn't be surprised if we cut him before training camp even opened.
Also glad we didn't deal with Anthony Davis' bull****. Would've been nice to get something for him in a trade but given the situation he himself created his trade value was 0. Nobody is throwing away even a 7th round draft pick for a guy who's been out of football for nearly 3 years and retired on a team twice.

If you guys have time to kill give this Maiocco podcast a listen
https://t.co/Uj6HiAkndL
He's got Solomon Thomas on as a guest. Really hope Sully has it as together as he says/sounds. I think this will be a big year for him assuming we do the obvious and let him play the majority of his snaps inside. I think he was starting to do some really good things in there at the end of the season the Seattle game being his best game as a pro.
If his mind is good(tragic story last year) and his body is good playing on the same DL as Bosa, Buckner and Ford will give him some great opportunities to do the things he does well and it sounds like we want to have our guys do a lot more attack vs react.
Lots of IFs on the DL still and guys have to stay healthy - Bosa and Ford have their injury questions at DE but that DL has the potential to be the best pass rush unit in the NFL.
I've been a huge fan of him since the draft and I can't deny he's been a disappointment so far but I'm really pulling for him to revive his career and show he was worth that 3rd overall pick. It will lead to really good things for the defense.
Next offseason OL and DB have to be priorities though. Which thankfully appear to be the strength of the 2020 draft...i just hope we're done picking in the top 10 for a long time.

This hits me right in the feels...
Today Bowman came the team facility and made it official. He is retired but he wanted to say he retired as a niner. I will always remember the pick at the stick.
Sadly I am still upset the way he ended up parting ways with the team.Free Agent...

I'm just hoping we stay healthy this year. I want to see the offense stay healthy - healthy Jimmy, healthy WRs, healthy RBs and healthy OL & Kittle.
On D if our DL can stay healthy I think they can dominate. The rest of the defense will kind of fall into place with the front 4 doing what they can do.
Don't know if we're ready for a serious playoff push but I think at this point this roster is good enough to compete for a playoff spot. If we finally get some luck on our end and don't continue suffering impact injuries like the last few years this team can definitely make a solid push into contention.

Wait. There is a chance Bosa misses week 1? Wtf. I guess I assumed he would be back to get some work in preseason games. F’n aggravating.
Also, let me add...what is Goodwin thinking? He hardly plays, now he’s taking ppv races, trying for the olympics etc. He may need to kneel soon to save face. His ass is about to get lost in the depth chart.Last edited by SF49ers; 06-12-2019 at 07:21 PM.

Dunno what you read but I don't think it was accurate. He'll be ready for training camp and week 1 for sure unless another injury pops up or he aggravates the hammy.

Yeah I dunno where you read that. He'll be just fine for training camp let alone week 1...assuming of course he doesn't aggravate anything.
They held him out so he would be just fine for training camp.
And I like Goodwin, he's fast and a great guy who has been dealing with some awful things lately but I don't get that other chit. Considering how last year went he needs to be working his ass off but I'm glad we don't have to rely on him as the #1 guy.
As much as his speed deep opens things up for us on offense I can definitely see him being traded.

I don't see him being traded at all, at least not this year, after who knows. He's the perfect deep threat right now, and we can rely on him for longer routes that would take longer to develop for slower guys while Pettis, Deebo, Hurd run short and intermediate, Kittle at TE and Trent in the slot. I feel like he will have a monster year yardage wise, but do it on not too many completions.

Funny how the only wideouts guaranteed to make the roster are two rookies and a second year player. Curious how it plays out after that. Goodwin is probably still a 90% lock but there’s a world where he gets cut or traded. I have a feeling Jordan Matthews is going to make the roster unless Bourne balls out in TC. Then there’s TT and Richie James.

Less than a month away til camp opens boys.
Look forward to the camp battles this year and hoping we get back the walking wounded and avoid any re-occurrences of injuries so we can actually see what this team can do this year.
Big battles to watch in order of importance IMO
1. CB starter opposite Sherm. I still think Witherspoon can win the job but Verrett is a really good player if healthy.
2. FS starter - I really don't want to think Jimmie Ward is the starter. Hopefully Colbert comes back hungry and plays like he did end of 2017 and takes the job and keeps it long term.
3. WR cuts - Pettis, Samuel and Hurd are locks. Goodwin is pretty close to it due to his speed. I'm assuming we keep 6 so it's Taylor, Bourne, Matthews, James and others fighting for 2 spots. I think Taylor makes it due to being a security blanket for the QBs so far. Big battle is Bourne vs Matthews IMO. James as talented as he is imo is on the outside looking in.
4. OL depth - Really hoping Richburg is healthy this year and his play improves because his contract and his play last year were not on the same level. Need him playing well because Center is key to this OL. But backup and the guard spots need to step up.
5. Backup QB - Mullens should have the leg up but will Kyle abandon his pet project? I don't think we can afford to keep 3 QBs on the final roster.

Good read about Sully and explains a lot about last year's crap season.
Really hope we see a new Thomas out there this year. His revival would be very welcome and with Bosa, Ford and Buckner out there our DL can be a really fun one to watch.
