I agree it didn't make sense to sit him all year(though I wouldn't have minded it) but even though the cost of his contract has gone up seeing him play this well and leading this team was a must.
Still...the Jags are no joke and I'm honestly worried for Jimmy in that game. He hasn't been sacked a ton but I'm curious to see the amount of hits on him because there has been an awful lot. Titans pass rush is underrated but they're not as strong in the secondary. Jags DL/linebackers are better and their secondary is WAY better than Tennessee. Calais Campbell on Zane Beadles is not a great matchup for us.
Hopefully we find a way to move the ball and not get Jimmy killed in the process.

Very excited for next year. Hopefully we get Jimmy locked down with a long term deal, make some key additions in free agency and nail the draft.
My current offseason strategy would be
Sign Jimmy to a long term deal.
Sign Ryan Jensen Center to replace Kilgore
Sign Andrew Norwell Guard to replace Tomlinson or Fusco
Sign Ezekiel Ansah to play LEO and move Solomon Thomas inside to 3T and get DeForest Buckner on the outside.
Draft just days 1/2 assuming no trade down is possible
1. Minkah Fitzpatrick
2. Rashaad Penny
3a. Quenton Meeks
3b. Frank Ragnow
My love for Minkah has diminished a bit with the emergence of Colbert but he may simply be BPA and if he can play corner that would be great. I don't think he's as fluid as Ramsey but I made the mistake of thinking Ramsey's best fit would be at FS so who knows with Fitzpatrick.
I think Penny in this offense would be a stud to help keep the pressure off Jimmy. Meeks is another good sized corner who can help the secondary. I love Ragnow, not sure if he lasts but great depth at C/G and possible stater at either position. I know we have Garnett but I don't want to make any assumptions that he can play well. Having the depth at OL and especially C needs to happen this offseason.
I love me some Calvin Ridley but if we can't trade down I just can't see him being the pick in the top 5 and it looks like Jimmy can work with what we got(hell we don't even have Garcon out there), we may also look into getting another WR in free agency.
If we can't sign a legit LEO prospect in free agency then it's a position that needs to be hit earlier.

Jimmy was going to get a huge contract regardless. I’m not worried about it. At least we won’t be Baltimore stuck with Flacco and his huge contract.
I honestly have very low expectations for Garoppolo this week. As great as he’s been I’m trying not to get too high. This is a terrible matchup for this 49ers offense. I feel like Jimmy already has a ton of pressure in his face on most plays. That Jaguars defensive line will be brutal on our line. On top of that our receiving corps will look pathetic against those corners. Just hoping Jimmy comes out of this game healthy.
With that said, I honesty think Garoppolo has the quickest release in the league already. It’s insane how fast the ball comes out. And to be as accurate as he is with that quick release it’s really reminding me of Rodgers. Hate to compare him to a Hall or Famer already but I can see some similarities.Last edited by Hoyer4MVP; 12-18-2017 at 06:56 PM.

I'm not worried about the contract, we have plenty of cap space and QB makes everyone better as a result. I'm prepared for a pretty ugly stat line from him in this game...but if he shows up then the legend will continue to grow even if we end up losing.
On paper even with the quick release we shouldn't have a chance. Our guys are either too beat up Kittle and Celek are hurting Or just not that great Goodwin/Taylor/Bourne/etc...not awful but not exactly the type of receivers who give that crazy secondary trouble.
And that's with the awful OL missing Trent Brown. Calais Campbell or whomever they line up on that right side against Beadles? We'll have to throw it quick and hope guys make plays after the catch but those linebackers on the Jags fly and their secondary is very sound at tackling as well.
Going to be very tough to move the ball on them.

Pretty much this........... Don't get me wrong but I really like Cj but he is no where near where Jimmy is in terms of talent. Just look what happened when Jimmy stepped in. He is running the same expect offense as CJ/Hoyer but he is able to produce in it.
With that said I do not expect a great game from anyone.Free Agent...

Funny thing is CJ probably knew the offense better after going through all of camp and several weeks worth but clearly he hasn't mastered the things Garoppolo has. If CJ was out there I'm not sure we win any of those games and he probably takes like 20 sacks compared to the 7 that Jimmy took.
Hopefully Kyle puts together an awesome game plan for Sunday where we get the ball out quick as possible for Jimmy. If he has to scan the field it will be bad...

I resent that comparison lol. I don't think Osweiler ever showed the things that Jimmy did with NE and now over here. When Houston signed him to that contract I thought it was a horrible move. Denver was loaded with offensive talent and he didn't even look THAT good. When the corpse of Peyton Manning takes your job then you're not a legit starter.
Jimmy should only get better as he gets more comfortable with this offense. Matt Ryan's jump from first year to second was partially due to the talent they added but the familiarity in that scheme took him to another level. I think as the 49ers add players around him and improve the OL he'll look even better.
And welcome no harm rooting for the 49ers. I'm a die hard niners fan but I root for the Pats since I live in the Boston area. Very rarely is there any conflict on who I want to win. Last time I wanted the 49ers to win when they played each other was in 2012(and we did ) last year I was rooting for draft position.
The two teams really only face each other once every 4 years or in the SB which is one of the reasons Belichick let the trade happen.

I just saw on the news this morning that Jarred Hayne is accused of rape in 2015. I haven't followed up yet but that is crazy.

Another Baalke steal.
I'm embarrassed to have made so many excuses for him. So much of "his guys still have time to prove what they can do"...well real quick they all proved to suck outside a handful of players.
Over the next few seasons some of the guys we have getting good amount of playing time may not even make the roster as others get healthy and we find better talent but it's insane how many guys that were just added by this front office have contributed. I hope it's a great sign to come and they keep killing it in free agency and draft.
Additions via FA or draft this past offseason who have made major contributions to the team
Garcon
Goodwin
Juszczyk
Mostert
Williams
Mitchell
Robbie f*cking Gould
even street free agents like Douzable, Marsh, Day
Draft/UDFA
Thomas
Foster
Witherspoon
Beathard
Kittle
Taylor
Colbert
Bourne
Breida
If we have another similar offseason with Jimmy at QB...next year will be very exciting(even though the schedule looks brutal)

Somewhere like that, second most behind Browns...not the most welcoming of FA destination.
No question we have to lock up Garoppolo but I hope we don't get too carried away in free agency. It's still 3-4 years from now but looking at this draft class there will be a lot of contracts up that need to be done.
I'm pretty sure we have a bunch of guys up for free agency this year or next that we may be counting on in terms of long term help to the squad.
I also think WR should be addressed in the draft unless we can sign Allen Robinson. Davante Adams would be a good get too but I don't think Packers will let him go and his concussions make me nervous.
OL is key though. Have to get that interior patched up and make sure next year OL is a strength. Give Jimmy time in the pocket, especially after he is much more comfortable with the offense and he can carve teams up with the guys we already have. Add a few others and we're cooking.

Holy chit...kind of crazy when you see it right there in front of you
Marquise Goodwin ranks 12th in the NFL with 897 receiving yards.
That's more than:
- Davante Adams
- Golden Tate
- Doug Baldwin
- TY Hilton
- Demaryius Thomas
- Mike Evans
- Alshon Jeffery
- Dez Bryant
Who would've thought this late in the season you could say that.

I saw a Jags fan posting on webzone and he made me realize Aaron Colvin is a free agent...would absolutely LOVE to get him on this team. I think he'd be a target too because we obviously need corner help and Saleh is familiar with him. I thought he had another year for Jax as I thought they "red shirted" him as a rookie when he tore his ACL but I guess he played as a rookie.
He won't be bargain cheap but I think he can be our version of AJ Bouye

Yeah...unfortunately our guys still lead the league in drops and Goodwin has had his share but no question he's been much better with Jimmy at QB...all receivers have been better with him at QB.
I like Goodwin, not sure if you saw the video about him losing his child then playing that day and the video of him talking to a sick kid at 49ers practice, there's no question Goodwin is a great person so I wish him well. But he did have some boner killing drops earlier in the year. We're talking bombs down the field, TDs, you name it. If he can get his hands in check he can be a very good receiver. Not a #1 guy but could be a lesser version of TY Hilton.
And honestly even if the 49ers didn't address the WR position heading into next year Garcon, Goodwin, Taylor, Bourne isn't awful. But obviously they'll address the position somehow and I'll be excited to see how it shakes out.
