say youve been with a girl for over a year and she was pretty good to you. would you break up with her if she gets 200k into debt unnecessarily? assuming your goal is to one day live together and have a family and such.

depends on her spending habits.
if she is working to pay it off then I don't see the problem. she probably has learned the lesson.
Also sometimes being is debt is not necessary there fault.
if she is buying some Micheal Kors left and right than I would move on."I mean I know Im gonna get Got....But ima get mine more than I get Got Doh"-Marshawn Lynch

I wouldn't marry someone with ridiculous debt. Once married, that debt becomes your debt too. And people that are unnecessarily in debt generally aren't very fiscally responsible.

Was supposed to move in with this girl who broke up with her BF who she was gonna marry. LoL, guy proposed to her in only 1-2 months of dating and she decided to bail 4-6 months before any wedding.
And then she had bad credit and she won't talk to me now. I think she is going to try find another boyfriend now and marry some guy who will rid of her bad debt. She Greek so it is kind of ironic she has bad credit when the country is also in bad financial situation.

nope, not a doctor.
lmfao repped.
exactly my situation.
heres my scenario: gf is taking out a 200k loan to go to grad school 2000 miles away and live in a fancy apartment. she has a peice of shiit car and could have lived at home for grad school after 4 years way at school. she could have liven rent free, bill free with her parents for 3 years before graduating at 24 years old. instead she chose to take out this debt and commit to the school in question with only about 1k to her name presently. so once she gets there she will take out a loan to live on and go to school on since she doesnt plan on working during. she'd be a physical therapist at the end of it all but even then they start at like 65-70.
meanwhile i put off school for 6 years before going so I can pay it off out of pocket with not a dime of debt. is financial habits a dealbreaker for you? ive never questioned that before.
tell me how you would react to that.

Story time.
I was in love with my wife long before this situation took place. She was amazing. I wasn't sure I wanted to marry her until the moment in this story.
I have a 60% discount at a retail clothing store. I take her shopping but she knows and I WAS PAYING for whatever sweater she wanted. So she tries on a couple and REALLY likes one of them but she ends up choosing another, we go to get something to eat after and the following convo takes place.
Me: "Hey, I thought you liked that one sweater, why did you chose the one you got?"
Her: "It was more expensive by $10".
Me: "You know with my discount that's like $4 right (thinking maybe she forgot)"?
Her: "I know".
I knew right then, this was a person who could be trusted not to be a consumerism driven whore. A financially responsible adult and someone I could trust not to ruin our lives because she wanted the latest retarded fad shoes.(っ◕‿◕)っ

i was in kmart buying water the weekend before last, and infront of me was a girl buying a bunch of shoes and clothes. she had what looked like 15 credit cards in her wallet, and the stuff she was buying and wearing just looked like stuff someone splurged on a new credit card with. i got so turned off.

yeah its hard to accept someone doing something so dumb. even if you wanted that sort of "experience" just take out a 20k loan after school is done and travel for 6 months before starting your real job ffs.
no. i just am so much better with money than her. but fuuck man cant believe it's even a consideration in her mind.
is that right? just thought it was because of sloots slooting.

Would 100% be a deal breaker for me. Once she's out of school, assuming she does find a good job, it will take her 5+ years to pay off that dept + interest. Realistically longer. At the end of the day, if you stay with her, be prepared for it to become YOUR dept. She better be a fukking keeper x1000 if you're willing to do that imo.
Good luck with whatever you decide OPie.
Edit: also, its just a huge red flag going forward. Just shows she doesn't understand how debt and the 'real' work works and the negative consequences it has.---------------Misc Bet Crew---------------

Neither me nor my wife have ever been in debt other than for purchasing real estate, which we both have cleared long ago. We have separate bank accounts and split all payments. The system of going into huge debt for education is ludicrous anyway.
