In light of you changing your mind, go with the Body solid. We have suggested that rack here for years. It's time tested, no frills and cheap. Call Matt at fitness factory. He usually does a bb.com discount. The new racks are great will tons of holes, accessories and everything but bottom line is they all provide safety. At your age you need to focus on lifting and not what looks cool in your mom's garage etc.

Okay I decided to get the Body Solid GPR378 from Fitness Factory for 476 shipped. I also decided to get a Powerblock Adjustable Bench, OB-86B bar, and a 300 lb weight set.

Hopefully the CAP OB-86B and not the Body Solid OB-86B.

    Decent choice.
Look up Black Widow Training Gear for new J hooks when you get sick of the ones that come with the rack. And you probly will sooner than later.
476 is a good price. I paid 400 even for mine, but went to pick up....then had to pay tax. So it was 430ish.
Good luck, glad you made your decision.

You might want to read some more of the bench threads on here before buying one. There are better benches that can be had for not much more money if you pick them up at the right time....

For what it's worth, compliments to you on being a young dude, with a brain, willing to not just seek advice from older people who have been there/done that and seen countless others, but listen, self evaluate and arrive at a reasonable conclusion for your needs. Says something positive about you and your future regardless of whether you stay with lifting or not.

I may have missed it but if you don't own a copy of Rippetoe's Starting Strength you should. Owning it and reading it at the beginning is the best investment you can make in your lifting career.

get a good book (starting strength is one) and doing some research on the lifts is important for someone starting out so you can get good form and learn to do things the right way.

wouldn't hurt to find a good coach and get a few training sessions with them early on as well...

i would definitely not buy that. if it works for you then great, but it's unstable, and has very short spotter arms.

i've heard good things about greyskull. be smart and stick to it; i've regretted not listening to the only trainer i ever had in terms of what advice he was giving me and floundering around between workout routines and such.

This isn't a serious option and there are better squat stands and half-racks out there.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

You don't need a 300lb bench to crack your rib cage or crush your throat, and passing out under a squat bar with 200-300lbs may not end well either. For most people a catastrophic failure MAY never occur, but I follow the 'Condom Principle' when it comes to protecting my life. I would rather have longer spotter arms and not need them, then need longer spotter arms and not have them....
